Tropical Storm Arthur remnants fuel flood emergencies in the South

[00:00:00]We're watching the threat of possible tornadoes and severe storms again tonight. The system sweeping from the Midwest now right into the northeast and tonight dramatic water rescues across the south. Families pulled through windows to safety. Lee Goldberg has the forecast and ABC's Faith Abubey tonight from the storm zone.

[00:00:21]Flash flood emergencies fueled by remnants of Tropical Storm Arthur. In Stone County, Mississippi, rescuers in boats using paddles to pound on windows, pulling people and pets from multiple inundated RVs. More than 2 ft of rain in spots. Destruction outside New Orleans in Avondale. At least two people were hurt after a likely tornado slammed into this neighborhood. A separate system spawning multiple tornadoes overnight.

[00:00:51]Debris flying as this twister tears up property east of St. Louis in Teutopolis, Illinois. First responders tending to multiple injured, carrying this person to safety.

[00:01:04]>> This terrifying twister spotted not far from there in Effingham, hurling debris right next to the highway. Our Ginger Zee on the ground.

[00:01:13]>> On the tornado video, you can see the suction vortices, but the damage tells that story, too. From Mid-America Motorworks, the building destroyed, other outposts destroyed, vehicles also wrecked, and that sprinter van thrown in the middle of that field.

[00:01:27]>> Northwest of there in Blue Mound, Illinois, a school roof ripped open, lumber piercing walls and roofs. The system now targeting the northeast.

[00:01:36]>> And David, here in Mobile, Alabama, several roads just like this one shut down because of the flooding, but drivers have been ignoring some of these signs. Authorities are urging people to stay off the roads because this area could see up to another foot of rain by the time all of this is over, David.
