The video insightfully captures how the Xin'an School’s minimalist aesthetic reflects the unique intersection of Huizhou’s merchant wealth and its rugged, scholarly spirit. It offers a sophisticated look at how regional identity can produce art that is both intellectually dignified and authentically independent.

So, this is the art museum.
Fine art museum.
And I for some reason, I I just have a a very uh very much connection with this kind of a Chinese style um Chinese paintings and uh simultaneous simultaneous style and and western um impressionists.
The color is uh it's a quite uh delicate. I love it.
This is a Xin'an school. Bye. Xin'an is a a very local style. It's a little bit like uh uh important Gogaku. There is a Oh, I forgot what is the school or Hudson school, different kind of arts.
So, this is one of the Xin'an uh style. Use quite pale ink, a little bit exaggerated, a little bit uh a freedom. It's a beyond just uh just uh How do I say it? It's a beyond uh just uh originally copying very realistically um uh or very realistically describing, illustrating.
And there is a lot of a freedom, a lot of uh uh self-expression.
A little bit silly, a little bit exaggerating.
And it's uh the very uh very well uh controlled, maintained skill. It's based on very well very good skills to to develop uh a new way of expression. Unfortunately, the mirror is a little bit uh but it's a little bit obstructing the the painting, but I I really love this kind of style. It feels soft. It feels intuitive. It feels um naive. It feels just a very very um lively, very enjoyable. You know the artist is having fun. And there is not very much pressure.
And there are at the same time a lot of paintings with this huge skill skill uh uh skills.
This one, look at it.
And uh each artist has its own way of using ink, using brush.
And they all follow one particular book, Jieziyuan Huafa. And then uh starting from there to to adding their own uh way of of expression.
And uh coming to see this original very very exaggerated, very pure and unpretentious painting is just uh so it feels so good. So very good.
Look at it. It It There is something that I cannot even explain. It feels balanced planned pretty simple easy intuitive a little bit naive a little bit uh clumsy from time to time. It's just so Yeah. Just so um so typical. So typical.
This is uh um This is scholarly style or intellectual style. This is not uh um the the the the painting that uh uh will will contribute to the emperor to um So, they have a lot of freedom.
Usually, the artwork that is uh for the emperors, for the imperial court they have to be perfect. There is no um no freedom. There is no way of your expression. You have to do exactly as uh as the rule. But these are so >> [sighs and gasps] >> so lovely. Oh my goodness.
I love them.
I particularly love this kind of a black and white ink. And these are by It feels like uh pen and ink.
It feels like pen.
Maybe not uh uh painting brush. Looks very much like pen.
But the paper looks like uh Chinese uh ink paper. Mhm.
I'm a little bit confused. But there is nothing to be confused about their skills.
I will not spend my life here because I am about to catch up my train.
And uh I just have a a moment of quietness appreciation love every single one of it.
And this is the second floor.
Shi Nong's calligraphy.
And I think this is uh the collection the the reserve of uh the collection of the museum.
Wow.
Magnificent.
Wow.
To see Chinese painting in such a close scale.
And the bamboo shoot on the side.
This is so wonderful.
Look at this.
Wow.
All of them.
Typical Chinese painting.
Like the Japanese word saying it's sumi-e.
Su water. Mi ink.
Shui Mo water and ink.
Oh my.
Wow.
Wuyuan.
My parents used to be there.
Oh, look at this.
I love this one.
I love every one of it.
Okay. So, now I am at home. And just arrived home. And here are some paintings I took picture of it.
So, this style of painting uh is called Xin'an Huapai from Huizhou, from this area.
And there is mountain, Yellow Mountain, Huangshan. Very famous for its uh for its uh unique beauty.
And there is always uh cloud, misty, and very beautiful mountains.
And um how do I say? The Xin'an Huapai. Xin'an Jiang is a river. Xin'an Jiang is passing through this area. So, the the artist here in this area has a unique style.
And it's in this Xin'an Huapai.
It's a Xin'an school. It's a little bit like our uh like uh our other uh school of artists.
Something like uh in Pont-Aven, uh in France.
The the Gauguin uh uh a a style of Gauguin's.
Uh I forgot the name of that uh that particular uh Pont-Aven Brittany's group. And uh uh Boston's Hudson School in America.
Uh uh in the in the East Coast Hudson School.
And the Xin'an Huapai is the same thing.
The Xin'an School is the people, the artists from this area.
And this area is very developed for its uh for its economy mostly on the trading, on business, on selling on this area trading.
And a lot of business men are very rich, very prosperous.
And uh and because the economy is developed, so it's very developed, so the there there there is a good living condition to develop very cultural development.
And this area is famous for being in Chinese ancient ancient times uh um passing examination for um for uh how do I say it? Passing the examination and become a um become a higher ranking officials.
Uh functionary is the old time.
So, this area people uh reads a lot, very knowledgeable, very educated.
And uh and um their painting style is uh is kind of cool.
Kind of um distanced, isolated, not trying to to please anybody. They are living a good life. They do not need to please any officials, any royals.
And they are developing their own unique um cold, distanced, and a little bit uh um uh independent.
And uh and uh ignorant from the the the the the the the from uh uh uh ignoring the royal or official demand.
Do I make any sense? So, their color choice is is not very very sweet colorful. They use less color.
And uh their painting style is also quite a little bit foggy, a little bit uh obscured, a little bit uh uh um a little bit misty, mysterious, and not pleasing. They are not trying to please any any anybody. Not trying to please the authority.
And it's a very typical and very unique even this time. I visited Huangshan area. I can feel the the proud of people and uh and uh and they are very proud of uh their place.
And have very um very much self-esteem, and very much uh confidence in their own life.
And this reflect in their tea also.
There is a particular tea called Dishui Xiang.
Every drop has a fragrance.
It goes with everything of their their style, their house style, their um living house residential design is kind of not too much color, very clean, very um a little bit cool, a little bit cold.
And their tea uh fragrant, but the fragrance from the nature itself. Huangshan is not famous for uh aromatic infused infused tea, like jasmine tea, like uh uh osmanthus tea. No, they are pure.
They are very dignified and uh and individualized and authentic. That's what I feel about this this area. There is a lot of beauty that expressed through their through their art, through their tea, through their way of life.
And I will I have bought some tea back. And I will do another dedicated video to explain the tea and other things. So, that's what I get from um from visiting this art museum.
I hope I can explain. I have explained uh a little bit. So, when you see the art from this area, they are not soft, they are not sweet, they are not colorful. They are very dignified, unique, and uh and cool, and independent.
Don't you think so?
I love it.
Love it very much.
Thank you very very very much.
I love you. I really do.
Do do do do do do do. Gulu gulu baia.
Bye.
