[00:00:16]Looks like it's coming to an end. The caption of this post says, "Large unruly crowd prompts Jersey Shore town to enact curfew." They're on top of a car. It was disgusting to watch as young people climbed on top of a car in the parking lot at Pier Village, dancing and twerking on the vehicle, causing damage and leaving a beach community stained because of disorderly behavior. Local hotel guests were forced to shelter in place. We just saw people like standing and jumping on top of cars and dancing on top of cars and we really didn't know what was going on. We heard a lot of sirens going on and uh you know, we and then all of a sudden the uh security for the resort came out and said that we had to get in the resort. They were locking it down.

[00:00:57]>> Residents watched as many beachgoers started behind and away from the massive crowd that gathered on the boardwalk.

[00:01:03]Anyone out at the time had to worry about their own safety. Like I just left and there was like a lot of noise and commotion, like a lot of traffic.

[00:01:11]>> The Jersey Shore has become a place where rowdy behavior is expected. That's why some places have permanent curfews.

[00:01:18]Where are the parents? Where are the parents?

[00:01:24]Last night Long Branch shut down everything at 8:00 p.m. The police cleared the street by lining in a tight formation and forcing people to retreat.

[00:01:33]Okay, so we're not going to pay too much attention to that. Here's the response though. US Attorney Genie Pero issues blunt warning to parents whose children participate in teenage takeover.

[00:01:46]>> As we grapple with this problem, there is one area that hasn't been discussed.

[00:01:53]Parental involvement has been a noted gap in any discussion.

[00:01:59]And I am here to say, as the United States Attorney in the District of Columbia, that ends today.

[00:02:06]Starting today, my office will aggressively prosecute parents under DC's curfew law. And the specific statute that we will use is a violation of DC Code 22-811.

[00:02:22]And it involves contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

[00:02:28]This statute makes it unlawful for an adult to enable, facilitate, or permit a minor to engage in delinquent acts. Mhm.

[00:02:38]Penalty is up to 6 months imprisonment.

[00:02:41]So, if the evidence shows the parent knew or should have known or permitted or failed to prevent participation, we're going to charge them. And if you drop your kid off and you fail to supervise them or you let them skip school to join the chaos, you are going to face fines, court-ordered classes, and possible jail time. Listen, um 6 months is crazy, though.

[00:03:11]Maybe they went too hard on that.

[00:03:13]Maybe they went too hard, but it looks like they're not playing around. They're not playing around. I mean, if they're going to let parents be arrested, at least let parents not spare the rod.

[00:03:27]Right? We need to be able to whoop these kids. That's what goes hand in hand with this.

[00:03:34]We can team up with the government to get these kids straight. Penalties can be imposed even if the juvenile minor is not prosecuted.

[00:03:47]So, a parent commits this offense if they permit or by insufficient control allow a minor under the age of 18 to violate a curfew.

[00:04:00]Now, we're going to be asking the Metropolitan Police Department to issue parental citations whenever a minor's curfew violation is tied to a takeover.

[00:04:10]We will seek to pair these citations with mandatory parental notification and court-mandated parental classes or family counseling as a condition of the resolution of the case.

[00:04:23]The shame of this is that we are protecting your children, the ones who may join a teen takeover out of simple curiosity because you won't. Because we don't want your child victimized. So, we now have to step into your shoes, parents, to make sure that your child is not victimized.

[00:04:47]This doesn't require new legislation, folks. It's all there. And it sends a clear message to the parents that you must supervise your kids or face criminal consequences. Can you imagine how angry I mean, you want to talk about getting fathers involved in kids' lives?

[00:05:06]Can you imagine how angry a man would be to get his check garnished because uh some son he is not disciplining somewhere um if he has access to that kid does something dumb like this and so they just hold both parents accountable.

[00:05:23]I guess the question is how would that work, right? Would they hold the person accountable who is involved and has full custody?

[00:05:31]It's interesting. Maybe they'll hold both parents. But what if you don't have as much access to your child? Anyways, regardless, I think this is needed, right? [00:07:23]LMAO, better question is, have you seen your children lately? Yeah. These kids, these teens, if you want to call them kids, they need to find something productive to do. And parents, that's your job. That's not our job. And I am sick and tired of people saying to me, "Oh, the teens have nothing to do." Yes, they do. The Department of Parks and Recreation has over 1,700 individual programs for teens, and parents take advantage of this and have your kids get involved in everything from basketball, baseball, boxing, tennis, ballet, cheerleading, kickball, track and field.

[00:08:13]We don't want your kids victimized, either. And neither should you. And that requires that you do something about this. And that's why we're going to hold you accountable now. So, if you live in DC or the DMV, you've probably seen this video. Starting today, my office will aggressively prosecute parents under DC's curfew law. [00:08:52]If you can arrest a parent just because they should have known and they didn't, that's a lot of a lot of kids who are not going to have anybody to supervise them. If you're giving out fines of hundreds or even thousands of dollars, then it sounds like you're trying to punish poverty. You're not actually punishing what is being done. Because if a single mother who has to work two jobs to support her family has a son who goes out and does something crazy, and then she gets a fine that is more than her rent that she's got to pay off, what do you think's going to happen? She's probably going to need to work more, which means she's also not going to be able to watch the kid. Again, I think parents need to be held accountable. A lot of issues with today's kids are because the parents don't want to do their job. But we all know that the threat of prison time does not stop people from doing crimes. And I'm afraid this is going to lead to a lot more mass incarceration and a lot more poverty in these communities if we just say we should do this. This finna get a lot of kids ass whooped. All right, all you bad ass little kids, it's over with.

[00:11:05]Here's somebody else who added, "Absolutely the right move." you have a teenager in DC, you better keep them in the house or you're going to be charged.

[00:11:13]So, I don't know if you guys have heard the US attorney Genie Perron, the US attorney in DC, she is so sick and tired we've heard about the team the team takeovers in DC where these teenagers have just been running the streets, creating all kind of chaos, criminal activity, breaking up breaking into restaurants, tearing up the furniture, street fights, all of the things. And they're underage, so nothing's happening to them. So, the parents don't want to parent the kids. So, what she's decided to do, Jenny Perillo, she has enlisted the FBI, and every destructive piece of activity that your teenager gets into in DC, you're going to be charged with it.

[00:11:51]You're going to be charged with it. So, I suggest when you don't know where your kid is, and it's like 10:00 at night, you might want to check, because if they're outside in DC causing destruction and creating chaos, and they get into criminal activity, they're going to come for you. Mom, dad, whoever the parent is. And I 100% agree with this. I personally think that this should happen across the country, because these kids are running wild in the streets.

[00:12:24]They are breaking the furniture. They're fighting in the streets. I mean, and unfortunately, it's a it's a certain group. I won't say it, because y'all don't like when I call out groups of people who are just not conducting themselves in any kind of civilized manners. Jenny Perillo, US Attorney of DC, is rolling out a law in DC that if your kid is in a part of any chaos, destruction, street fighting, tearing up restaurants, you are going to be charged. You guys let me know down in the comments. Are you Do you say yes to this? I say yes to this. When I was young, and I have two brothers, they were in the house when the street lights came on. So, I don't know where it became a trend where you let your teenagers be in the street causing crime, and you're just like, "Whatever." Do you remember the Atlanta water boys who were in the streets of Atlanta at the stoplight, and then trying to sell you water, and then if you didn't buy it, they were like breaking your window, trying to rob you, tearing up your car, cussing you out.

[00:13:28]Well, Atlanta did put a stop to that.

[00:13:30]But, like where were their parents?

[00:13:31]Like, so let me know again in the comments, do you agree that across the board, not just in DC, that these police officers and these police departments and these US attorneys should put laws in place to hold these minors' parents accountable for their destructive behavior? Because if they're behaving like this as teenagers, what kind of adults are they going to be?

[00:13:54]These are not harmless gatherings. They are violent and they are disruptive. And you can see from what happened at Chipotle's this past weekend, it was not just violence occurring between individuals, it was simply destruction of property. It was a takeover of a restaurant by individuals who felt that they could get away with it. Well, they're not going to get away with US Attorney Jeanine Pirro has it right. So, down there in Washington, she said she is tired. She's sick and tired of being sick and tired over y'all kids. She said that going forward, they are going to start prosecuting the parents.

[00:14:37]So, if you don't know where your kids are, if you're not supervising your kids, you're going to face time, you're going to have to do courses or some classes. Y'all need to know where y'all kids are. This is concerning underage kids when it comes to curfew. Y'all got to know where y'all kids are.

[00:14:55]Don't come with the "Well, we can't watch our kids 24 hours a day cuz we got to work." You better know You better know cuz having to work is not an excuse no more. Y'all kids are out here wilding and y'all going to go to jail behind it.

[00:15:10]They need to incorporate this in all 50 states, not just Washington, D.C.

[00:15:16]Another person here says, "Parents must be held accountable for for children uh children's behavior. Mhm.

[00:15:23]Yeah. Cuz cuz cuz the these parents today, they don't respect the teachers.

[00:15:30]They don't respect authority. More single mothers, they don't have men in their households, right? It's a free-for-all. And so essentially, the whole household now, the whole single household, maybe some of them have parents, but most of them don't.

[00:15:42]Um will have to be treated like a criminal organization.

[00:15:48]Right? They're running a criminal organization in that house. Next comment here says, "Good. Curfews reduce shoplifting, vandalism, and gang violence. You should know where your minor child is at all times." Somebody else here says, "I love this and make sure the kids clean the house. They won't know what hit them." And the person here added, "Holding the parents accountable for their teenagers' actions is brilliant, and we need this in Canada. Well done, USA." Somebody else here says, "This is long overdue.

[00:16:22]We have to get super tough nowadays. As a Gen X kid from the '70s and '80s, this crap wasn't happening, and parents did their job." And I understand like progressively, every generation has always complained about the newer generation, and then they did something about it, and this is what they've decided to do about it.
