Hopefully everybody's having a wonderful Friday. Wonderful week out there as well. It is the 198th day of the year. We're talking severe storms, flash flooding, rainfall, a major heat wave, and the tropics all in this video.

Again, it's free to do. Let's get into the forecast details for today. And our big jetream is way up to the north here in Canada. We got a big trough in eastern Canada. Got a more compact, smaller looking trough across the Pacific Northwest, making its way on shore to British Columbia and Washington State.
Now, as we go here into the weekend, we're going to see our belt of winds start to surge southeastward across portions of the upper Midwest, the Great Lakes, the Ohio Valley, and the Northeast. This is an area that we're going to be seeing an uptick in thunderstorm activity and in general an uptick in severe weather activity as well. And this will take us into next week. So, let's look at tomorrow.
Tomorrow looks like a more aggressive day for severe weather across the Ohio Valley, the Mid-Atlantic, and parts of the Northeast where we have a yellow area. This is a two out of five on the risk scale, which means there could be scattered severe thunderstorms in yellow. In the dark green, it's a little bit of a step down from that. That's a one out of five, but isolated severe storms possible. And it could be as far west as central Illinois, as far south as Georgia, South Carolina, and as far north as Michigan, and areas there into New Hampshire. So, we're going to be keeping a very close eye on tomorrow, especially because we do have an elevated risk for tornadoes across the eastern parts of the Great Lakes and into the Northeast. So, as we get into the morning, these are values that are showing up, especially where you start to see the yellows and oranges that are appreciable for tornado genesis. And that's what we're going to be watching out for is especially getting into tomorrow afternoon from Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio up into New York State, even into Jersey where there's an elevated risk that a few of these storms could acquire the low-level rotation and produce a few tornadoes. And then that will continue in earnest through the early evening hours. Once we lose the daytime heating though, by mid late evening, our tornado threat will go down, but the damaging wind hail threat will continue to remain through much of the night. So, let's kind of look at what the simulation of the radar could look like going through Saturday morning. Already got some storms breaking out in Ontario and Quebec down here, even into the areas near Lake Hiron. As we get into the midm morninging hours, we got a broken line of storms already beginning to form north of Grand Rapids and Lancing, Michigan. This is going to be a storm line that could produce damaging winds and hail as we get into the afternoon around midday in Detroit. Lancing back there towards Grand Rapids and even Chicago. We got to be keeping a close eye on it. Additional storms will develop out ahead of the main cold front and these could be also severe. New York City, Hartford back there into the Poconos in Pennsylvania. And as we go into the afternoon on Saturday, the main coldfront comes through and this is a broken line. So this tells me that the rotation is a little bit easier for these storms to acquire. So a few tornadoes will be possible in addition to that damaging wind and that hail threat. And then elsewhere, we got an upper level low developing in the northeast shore of the Gulf here, the Big Bend of Florida, back towards Alabama. We got to watch for some locally heavy downpours. And then the monsoon out west on Saturday going to go strong again with some very heavy rainfall from north to south including Mexico all the way to Alberta, Canada and the mountain west in general. Now as we go through today there are some spots where we could see some strong storms back to Idaho and Montana. Also from eastern Minnesota, the Minneapolis, St. Paul and Duth areas eastward across northern Wisconsin and into Michigan there and then another area from Indiana, Ohio down through Kentucky, Georgia and North Florida. Now, as we go into Sunday, a little bit higher of a threat for severe weather, especially North Carolina near Raleigh, up toward Norfolk there in Virginia Beach into Virginia. We got to be keeping an eye on a scattered threat for severe weather on Sunday. The main threat there should be damaging winds and hail really today and then again on Sunday. Now, we turn our attention to early next week. A lot of storm energy building here across the Midwest and into the Great Lakes region.
You start to see these violet, even white colors showing up. That's over 4,000 jewels per kilogram of surface-based instability or what we call storm energy. So, if a storm taps into this environment, it'll readily become severe within minutes because it is so unstable. And that will continue with the cold front into the Ohio Valley and into the Tennessee Valley by Tuesday and then getting across the East Coast Southeast region getting into Wednesday, July 22nd. So, the early and middle portion of next week could be littered with some severe weather across the Midwest. And we're watching Monday, July 20th, very closely. If you live in Iowa, up into portions of Wisconsin, northern Illinois, northwest Indiana, and Michigan, especially the UP of Michigan, going to be keeping a very close eye on that. So, De Moine, Madison, Chicago, Milwaukee, all the way to Marquette, Michigan, and even into Wasaw, Wisconsin. Well, you guys are at risk on Monday. And then that shifts on Tuesday into the Ohio Valley. Now includes Paduca, back toward Lexington, Cincinnati, Dayton, Ohio, and Toledo.
And then as we go into the day on Wednesday, that's going to skip down into North Carolina again, Virginia, and into the Delm Marva region. So we could see areas in Raleigh up there towards Virginia Beach again into DC and Dover that could be included in that on Wednesday, July 22nd. Monday afternoon evening, we're going to be watching out for a complex of showers and storms developing upstream in Minnesota, Wisconsin. It's going to be diving to the south and east. Damaging winds and hail should be the main risk.
significant damaging winds over 75 mph should be the main threat, but a couple of tornadoes cannot be ruled out, especially early on in the day on Monday. Then as we go into Tuesday, we're going to see a broken line of severe thunderstorms from near areas of the bootill of Missouri and southern Illinois and then eastward through Kentucky, West Virginia and the Appalachian, Poconos, and over there toward the Delm Marva region. And then as we get into Wednesday, same deal except a little bit further south. So, Delm Marva down there through the Carolas, Georgia, and maybe even a few severe storms in Alabama on Wednesday as well. Here's the rainfall totals we see as we go through the next seven days.
So, this takes you through Friday, July 24th, 2026. Monsoon flow, strong out here. Very heavy rain in portions of Mexico, up there into Arizona, where we could see multiple inches of rain resulting in some risk for flash flooding. And then we got to see that ring of fire pattern come back later next week. And that could provide some more relief from the drought across Nebraska and into Iowa there. Very heavy rain though in the short term across the Ohio Valley, Mid-Atlantic and Northeast where you see a lot of these oranges and reds. That's two, three, even 4 in worth of rainfall. And we got to watch that upper level low in Florida as we could be seeing near the Big Bend. some very slowmoving storms that could result in some significant flash flooding into early next week. With the high pressure centered across the south central US through the weekend, we're going to be seeing more of the calmer winds there in the middle and southern portions of the country. Windiest conditions will be tied to the monsoon flow in the mountain west or across the northeast as that trough comes in into early next week.
And speaking of that trough, it's going to provide relief from the heat and humidity, at least some across the eastern US getting into the late portion of the weekend, but more so into early next week as a couple of cold fronts are going to be dropping from the Great Lakes into the southeast where the ridge will reposition itself. We'll be back here across the Rockies into Colorado, back here into the southern plains like Texas and Oklahoma. And that's where the brunt of the at least the core of the heat and humidity will be by the middle of next week. So, still very hot, still very sticky out there today. Due points are in the 70s. We're going to be seeing those heat indices over 100° up into the Midwest today, like South Dakota, like Minnesota and Wisconsin. But as we get into tomorrow, we're going to continue to see that, but it's going to start to shift a little bit further to the south on Saturday. And then on Sunday, we're going to see it shift more towards the Plains and the Gulf Coast states. And then early next week, it's going to be all about the Plains. and we could be pushing 115 120 degrees Fahrenheit in places like Texas, Arkansas into Missouri. So, it's going to be very hot. Make sure to hydrate with water and sports drinks.
And if you were an outdoor worker, find shaded areas on a frequent basis. Even better yet, air conditioning because it's going to be so hot and sticky out here into early next week. Now, that pattern will take us into late July as that trough going to be sitting into the eastern Great Lakes there in blue. And there's that big ridge of high pressure with the ring of fire with remember the air flow around a high pressure system is clockwise. So we're going to be dealing with the heat and humidity down here with storms around it. The monsoon flow out across the mountain west continues and also of the ring of fire with storm clusters in the Midwest and the Ohio Valley. So here you can see the monsoon very clearly with our temperatures as we go from the 21st through the 28th or so of July. And you can see where it's raining, it's cooler.
Where it's not, it's hot and sticky in the west and very hot, sticky there into the plains and parts of the deep south.
The eastern US will get relief from the heat with that trough over here in the eastern Great Lakes, sitting basically over Lake Hiron and Lake Erie. And as we look at precipitation, there's the monsoon continuing to go strong across the mountain west. In fact, Utah, Salt Lake City, Cheyenne, Wyoming, Denver, Colorado. It's been a lackluster winter this past winter. This will help to make up for some of that in the form of rainfall. And we look at the latest drought monitor that was released yesterday and this is very significant.
We got a lot of red maroon red out there which signals extreme exceptional drought. Uh fortunately we're seeing a strong monsoon. So hopefully this can start to provide relief from the significant long-term drought out across the west. And if we look at the flow too around this high that's going to be building in the southern United States, we're going to be seeing a severe storm zone called the ring of fire pattern that's going to be coming back with the monsoon flow out west. Air flows clockwise around the high. So it's going to be wrapping around it into the Midwest, the Ohio Valley, and then storms could be dropping into the southeast as well and then going underneath it through the Gulf. And we got to watch that from a tropical weather standpoint as well. That's my next segment is tropic update here. Uh we are keeping tabs still on the northeast Gulf. We haven't forget about you Florida or the southeast, but the big player is El Nino and it's getting stronger by the day and this is providing the Pacific basin with a lot of juice to work with. So tropical systems are nearly certain over here. In fact, a hurricane is nearly certain as well with the at least the ensemble guidance. 90 to 100% chance of a hurricane in the East Pacific basin by late next week. And we already see a system developing continuing to move westward in the open water out here.
Another system right on its heels. This one could become a hurricane. A lot of members showing up those blue categories. That's around 950 960 millibars. That would be a stronger hurricane by the early portion of next week. And then yet another wave behind it and that one could also be a hurricane if not a major hurricane. So we got a lot of systems to watch there in the East Pacific. And the reason being El Nino is continuing to remain warm with those water temperatures out across the Pacific basin, hugging up to the Hawaiian Islands all the way back to the West Pacific, which by the way, we're going to be watching the West Pacific for yet another typhoon that could be impacting the Philippines, potentially even Taiwan and China again.
So, we're going to be keeping an eye on that. But if you have any vacation destinations to the Hawaiian Islands, especially late in July after the 25th, some of these storms are going to have some legs with them with those warm water temperatures. They're going to be able to keep, you know, stay strong longer and they're going to be continuing to plunge their way westward towards the Hawaiian Islands. And some of these members are getting eerily close to the Hawaiian Islands as we get into late July, again, after the 25th going through around August 1st. So, if you have any vacation plans, again, don't panic. Don't go be canceling your vacation plans. Don't be doing that.
