In a closed circuit, electrons actually flow from the negative terminal to the positive terminal, but by convention, electric current is defined as flowing from positive to negative. This convention originated before electrons were discovered, when scientists assumed current flowed from positive to negative, and it remains in use today despite the actual electron flow being opposite.

Ever wondered how electric current actually flows in a closed circuit? 🤔⚡Hinzugefügt:
Hello everyone.
Quick question for you. What happens inside a circuit when you switch it on?
You know the answer? That's very good.
If you don't know, let's learn.
So, when you switch on the circuit, oh, it becomes a closed circuit. So, what does the battery does? Battery transfers electrons from negative terminal towards the positive terminals and the bulb glows. But, here's the twist. And the twist is when electricity was first discovered, electrons were not yet discovered. So, scientists assumed that the direction of the current is from positive terminal towards the negative terminals. So, here's what you learned, that electron is flowing from negative to positive, but the current direction is assumed to be positive to negative.
And that's how the current flows in a circuit.
