SCOTUS Just Ended It 9-0 — Americans Get The Bombshell Verdict They WantedAdded:
In a rare unanimous decision, the Supreme Court just ruled nine to nothing making it much harder for bad actors to put dangerous 18-wheelers and trucks on our highways making our roads much more safe especially when it comes to illegal alien or unqualified drivers. Now, if you're fed up with seeing deadly truck crash after truck crash caused by these unqualified and illegal alien drivers on our nation's highways sharing the road with your family, well, smash the subscribe button right now because we're exposing every win for road safety here in the United States of America on Resist the Mainstream. My name is Chris Hand and I'm coming to you live from Nashville, Tennessee. Illegally and improperly licensed truckers have become a growing danger on American highways. I have talked to some trucking experts on my radio show in Nashville, Tennessee and one of my experts a lady by the name of Danielle Chaffin, she told me that she estimates somewhere in the neighborhood of 300,000 illegal alien truckers on the road today in the United States of America. And and what does that cause? Well, we've already seen it in real time. Deadly cases, deadly crashes and multiple multiple cases like this. Like a Chinese national in Tennessee who failed an English proficiency test after causing a fight a fatal pileup. We saw Sikh drivers in Florida and California involved in crashes killing multiple Americans. And widespread reports of non-domiciled CDLs issued illegally in states like Minnesota and California. These unqualified drivers, many completely unable to read even the simplest of road signs or communicate clearly, they create chaos on our interstates and there's no way around it. And I'm sure you felt this way. I know I have.
You get a little bit more nervous these days when an 18-wheeler is riding behind you on the highway. Here in Tennessee, I find myself getting into the left lane where the trucks can't go just for that reason.
Well, the Supreme Court just gave Americans a breath of relief and victims and states a powerful new new tool to fight back. Well, what did they do? It was a 9-0 unanimous ruling written by Justice Amy Coney Barrett. Props to her.
Hats off. And the Supreme Court held that federal law does not shield freight brokers from state negligence lawsuits when they carelessly hire unsafe trucking companies. This is a huge win.
This directly impacts the brokers who put illegal alien or foreign drivers who violate CDL rules behind the wheel.
Brokers now can face some real consequences finally, forcing them to vet the carriers much more carefully because it always comes down to money, doesn't it? It does. Unfortunately, it does. Seeing dead Americans on the highway didn't make them want to change their behavior, but losing some money in a lawsuit, well, that's going to make them change their mind and change their practices very, very quick. It's [snorts] time to purge the CDL system of fraud.
Hold every single trucking company accountable and end the flood of non-English speaking unqualified drivers on our road. This decision that we got from the Supreme Court yesterday, it ends the free pass and it puts safety and Americans first. Will this ruling finally make our road safer? Do you think that this will have the impact that I think will have? Let us know what you think in the comments below. Here's the latest on the Supreme Court's 9-0 ruling and the decision opening the door for lawsuits against negligent freight brokers. Check this out. For the last year and a half, our 10 Investigates team has shown you problems on our roads from safety concerns on semis to trouble with the companies that hire the truckers to the system that allows some to try to escape accountability for crashes. Tonight, a new Supreme Court ruling clears the way for families impacted by truck crashes to sue freight brokers. They organized the transportation of your goods. CBS 2's Jennifer Tardy shows you how the court's decision will impact the trucking industry moving forward.
The photos from this semi versus pickup crash are hard to look at.
>> [snorts] >> But what was lost goes far beyond the wreckage. My whole world was just destroyed.
Cuz he was everything to me. Angela's husband, Jim, killed after the 2015 tractor trailer was traveling too fast for conditions when it struck the pickup truck Jim was a passenger in.
>> I heard and then seen it flying by me as it was as it struck everything.
It was January 4th, 2022.
That's the worst day in my life. The days after didn't get much better as more details came out about the crash.
It makes me angry that he had all those red flags and they hired him anyway. He had been a truck driver for about 10 months.
Perhaps a little bit longer. But lawyer Liam Duffy says while the driver was inexperienced, it's the history of the company that was a giant red flag. And that was everything from maintenance to break violations to unsafe driving.
