This video uses Greek word study to show that Jesus’s grief was quiet and personal rather than loud and performative. It’s a great example of how a small linguistic detail can make a well-known story feel much more human.

Jesus Wept" Is Mistranslated — In Greek He Didn't Sob. He Silently Shed One Tear. (John 11:35)Hinzugefügt:
Okay, stop for a second. Because I need to tell you something about the most famous two-word verse in the entire Bible.
Jesus wept. John 11:35.
Everyone knows it. Most people have never actually understood it. Here's what nobody tells you. In Greek, the New Testament was written in Greek, there are two different words for crying. The first word is klaio. It means loud, ugly, body-shaking sobbing. Like when Mary and the crowd were wailing at Lazarus's tomb. That's the word John used for them. The second word is dakruo. It means to silently shed tears.
Just letting a tear fall. Quiet, internal, controlled. And that second word, dakruo, is the word John chose for Jesus.
In fact, it's the only time that specific word appears in the entire New Testament. John used it once for this moment, for Jesus. So, what does that mean? The crowd was wailing out loud.
Their grief was external, expressive, visible. Jesus was silent. He [snorts] stood at the tomb of his friend, who he was about to raise from the dead, and one tear ran down his face.
He wasn't crying because he didn't know what was about to happen. He knew exactly what he was about to do.
He was crying because the people around him were in pain. Because death had broken something beautiful. Because grief, even temporary grief, still hurts. He had the power to fix it. He was standing there knowing he was going to fix it in the next 5 minutes. And he still let himself feel it. That's not weakness. That's the most powerful thing I've ever heard. The God of the universe, who knew the outcome, still paused to let one tear fall. Because your pain matters to him. Not just the solution, the pain itself.
Next time you're hurting, and you wonder if God actually cares, remember this. He stopped. He felt it. He let one tear fall. And then he called Lazarus out of the grave.
