The Great Egret (Koliha velká) is Europe's largest wading bird, characterized by its massive body and exceptionally long beak, which serves as an effective tool for hunting insects, mollusks, and crustaceans in wetland environments. This critically endangered species in the Czech Republic features a wingspan exceeding one meter and is known for its distinctive flute-like vocalizations. A young pair of Great Egrets recently established themselves in the wetland exhibit at Zoo Praha, marking a significant conservation milestone for this threatened species.
