The Hillsborough campaign is a decades-long effort by the families of 97 Liverpool FC supporters who died in the 1989 Hillsborough disaster to secure Hillsborough Law, which would prevent similar tragedies by ensuring proper accountability and safety measures in stadium management; the campaign involves annual commemorative runs and political advocacy, with figures like Andy Burnham making promises to help achieve this goal.

'Keir are you a man or a mouse?' | Hillsborough campaigners react to Andy Burnham's promiseAdded:
Well, I've been behind. I've been to Parliament. Kia Stan looked at our faces and promised us, "What are you, Kia? A man or a mouse? Are you a man of your word?"
>> Today at the run, but it's much more than a run for you, isn't it?
>> Yeah. Well, it's to remember our 97 Angels. I lost me big brother Keith McGar at Hillsbor. I've also lost me dad and my mom who I lost my mom 4 years ago. lost me out in 2004 and they they've campaigned for truth and justice all the way through till the last breath. So today is about coming together remembering our 97 but also remembering that Hills law now needs to be done.
>> And Andy Burton he made a new promise this this week um to Hillsbor's family that if he gets to parliament he'll get the law where it needs to be. Is this something you can get behind?
>> Well I've been behind I've been to parliament. And Kia Stan looked at our faces and promised us, "What are you, Kia? A man or a mouse? Are you a man or a word?"
But that's Andy Bham's behind being behind us and staying behind us like gold.
>> And tell us about the last time you did the run.
>> So the last time I done me done the run, I was with me mom pushing me mom in the wheelchair. So this day is about bringing back their memories and getting to that finish line with good memories of remembering me brother, me mom and me dad. And every year it gets bigger and better. So it really goes to show that the the fight is nowhere near done.
>> Yeah. The fight will never be over and there'll always be remembers. And that's what this city's about. Remembering and coming together at times when we need each other.
>> So we're obviously here today for the 5K, but it's much more than just a run, isn't it?
>> Yeah. It's it's a about how a city came together and supported people and hopefully you know that will be throughout forever and and if there's ever the city to do it's this one. We're here to remember the 97 we lost the the survivors of Hillsbor who were still suffering to this day and to promote our Hillsbor law to to ensure that these kind of things never happen again. But it's wonderful to to be here today.
>> And you mentioned you had your own personal connection to to today. What what was that?
>> Yeah. Yeah. Well, I lost me brother hills with Michael Michael Kelly. Um but also um 3 years ago we lost a dear friend who was a a reporter himself and he uh was fantastic with with us for the campaign. Um and every time we do a run, no matter where it is, uh we take his memories with us, his pictures, we take his banner. We had a banner made for We take that banner and we try to let people know that if you know you support us, we're always going to be there with you cuz that's what this is all about, community. And uh you know, we'll never forget anybody.
>> And every year it gets bigger and better. So it really goes to show that the fight isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
>> Well, that's correct. You know, the the the fight isn't over. you know, we're trying to ensure that we get a Hills law in place and uh people will never have to suffer 37 years like we have now because there's other communities doing it. co your flected butt scandals, the Manchester attacks. So many you could mention, but we uh we'll keep going to get this hilder law in place and try to ensure that this kind of uh you know terrible, you know, atrocity that's happen to families will never happen again.
>> And Andy Burnham this week made a new promise to the family. Some here today that if he gets back to parliament, he will do what he can to get the law where it needs to be. We've had promises before. What is your thoughts on that?
Well, I remember Andy back in 2009 um at Anfield Stadium and uh you know the crowd shouted him down and and you know we we we give him a bit of stick. Um but he took it well and uh he went back to Westminster the next day to Gordon Brown who was the then prime minister and uh started the ball rolling to towards the Hills inquests and uh you know ever since that change um the the campaigns move forward really fast with Andy's support and I think if he gets in as prime minister he will uh he will be the kind of person who keeps his promises cuz he's proved to Liverpool that he keeps his promises.
