Columbus man accused of killing wife, her daughter connected to other violent cases

[00:00:01]Tonight, a memorial is growing outside an East Columbus home where last night a woman and her 11-year-old daughter were found dead. New court documents say they had both gunshot wounds and stab wounds.

[00:00:14]Thanks for staying with us at 6 on air and on the stream. I'm Yolanda Harris >> and I'm Doug Pet in for Jeff Hogan. We first told you about this double homicide last night at 11:00. Officers say they were called to the home on Chadzsworth Way for a well-being check.

[00:00:29]Inside though, they found 33-year-old Shalomar Green and her daughter, 11-year-old Olivia Chandler. Police later arrested Shalomar's husband, Derek Green. Court documents say the two were in the process of ending their relationship. But as 10TV's Lacy Crisp explains, this isn't the first time Derek Green has been charged with murder.

[00:00:48]>> You can see the memorial in the driveway continues to grow, remembering Olivia and her mom, Shalomar. Another family says the suspect should have been behind bars already. As neighbors and friends try to make sense of the senseless, the Palmer family is reliving their own nightmare.

[00:01:07]>> How many people have to be killed or harmed in this state before perpetrators are held accountable? We knew that this man was violent. We knew he would reaffend, but we never imagined there would be two victims who would lose their life.

[00:01:29]>> Leslie Palmer's brother, Kenneth, was shot and killed New Year's Day in 2021.

[00:01:34]>> He was amazing. He was a great father.

[00:01:37]>> According to police reports, Palmer got into a fight with his longtime friend, Derek Green. Palmer left Green's home on Kimberly Parkway, but went back. As soon as he got there, he shot him five times.

[00:01:51]Twice in the chest and three times in the back when he was trying to get away from the window.

[00:01:57]>> Literally dropped to my knees because all the plans that he had for himself and his family were gone.

[00:02:09]>> Green was charged with murder, but the grand jury did not indict him and charges were dropped. He was also charged in 2023 with strangling Shalomar, but that case was also dropped because Shalomar did not want to testify, according to the prosecutor's office. Leslie and Chenica say it was like a punch to the gut to hear about the two brutally stabbed to death.

[00:02:32]>> Like, I knew he was going to do something, but this child, it made me sick to my stomach. How can you have a violent offender walking the streets of Columbus >> and >> and have no accountability?

[00:02:52]>> They argue if they would have gotten justice for Kenny, this tragedy may have been prevented.

[00:02:58]>> This would have never happened if someone would just had took action and got that man behind bars. I was telling them, I've been calling for 5 years.

[00:03:10]>> Palmer's family tells me they plan on contacting the prosecutor's office to ask if charges can be refiled in the 2021 homicide in Columbus. Lacy Crisp, 10TV News.
