Kot, który przypadkiem doprowadził do wyginięcia całego gatunku 😨🐱Added:
How one lighthouse keeper's cat led to the extinction of an entire species. In 1894, people built a lighthouse on Stevens Island near New Zealand because ships were constantly crashing into the dangerous rocks surrounding the island. Soon, about 17 people moved to the island along with supplies, livestock, and a pregnant cat named Tibles. At first everything seemed normal, but Stevens Island had been isolated for thousands of years. There were no mammalian predators on the island, so some birds evolved without the need to defend themselves. One of them was a small bird called the Stevens Island wren.
Over many generations he almost completely lost the ability to fly because he simply had no need for it.
But cats are almost perfect killing machines and hunt even when they are not hungry. To these birds, Tebles was like a super predator. They had never developed any defense against anything like this before. Very soon Tibles began bringing dead birds to the lighthouse keeper. But he noticed something strange.
The birds did not resemble any known species. Scientists later confirmed that a completely new species of bird had just been discovered. Exactly at the moment when it was already being minted. Soon, Tebles gave birth to kittens. The cats began [music] to breed and spread across the island, and the wrens had no chance. They nested close to the ground, couldn't escape effectively, and probably didn't even recognize cats as a threat until it was too [music] late. Within about a year, the Stevens Island wren disappeared forever.
