Free birth is a personal choice that involves deep intentionality and informed decision-making, where mothers exercise their autonomy to give birth in their preferred setting with or without professional support, recognizing that while birth is a natural, normal process, it may still require support depending on individual circumstances and risk factors.

FREE BIRTH: My Honest Opinion追加:
Hey mama, I'm about to give you my real and honest opinion about free birth because it's becoming a very polarizing and outspoken topic as of late. And this is simply my perspective as a child birth educator, a doula, and a mama myself. If you're curious or you just want to hear a balanced take, I invite you to listen with an open heart. So, let's jump in. First of all, let me preface what I'm going to say with the fact that I was born at home without midwives or any other official birth worker. My mom freebirth me before she even knew that was a term that people used before it was trendy. And I also want to let you know my philosophy on birth. I believe that birth is a natural, normal, beautifully, even perfectly designed process. Our bodies were created with incredible wisdom to grow, birth, and nourish life. But in the same breath, I also believe that we live in a world that isn't perfect. And while our bodies are divinely and intelligently designed, they don't always function perfectly. So yes, birth is normal, but that doesn't mean it's always without need for support. Still, I hold the deep belief that most healthy pregnancies have a very high likelihood of resulting in healthy labors and healthy babies. So that brings me to my stance on free birth. Moms, I believe that you absolutely have the right to choose how and where you give birth and who, if anyone, is there with you. And when it comes to free birth, I don't think that most women who choose it do it casually. In fact, I'd say the opposite is really true. The moms that I've known who choose free birth are often incredibly informed and have thought very deeply about it and they're very, very intentional about how they care for their bodies and prepare for their birth. Some choose free birth because they've had negative or even traumatic experiences with their obes or midwives who didn't respect their autonomy or didn't hold space for their values about their birth. Others have had multiple low-risk healthy births and simply feel that birth for them is something that they can do and want to do in the safety and peace of their own home on their own terms. And that's how I came to be free birthed. Honestly, it's what made sense to my mom after birthing five kids already. Now, I personally love midwives too much to choose a free birth. To me, they are so much more than just a trained set of hands at the birth or a just in case card to pull if something goes wrong.
They are a sounding board for your fears during your pregnancy. They're a trusted expert for health issues or concerns that you might have. They're a friend when you need encouragement and an incredible support for your partner as well. So, for me, unless midwives were completely inaccessible to me, I wouldn't personally choose a free birth.
But if I had to choose between a hospital birth where my options were limited and a free birth and I was low risk with two home births and three babies already under my belt, I'd probably choose to free birth. At the end of the day, it comes down to autonomy. Whether that's in a hospital, at a birth center, at home with a midwife, or at home on your own, you get to decide what's best for you and your baby and be respected in that decision.
Regardless of what you choose, information is power. So, take the free mini birth class linked below to start your journey to an empowering birth, no matter where or who it's with. Thanks for being with me in this video and I'll see you in the next
