The European Union has announced a €530 million investment plan for Greenland, nearly doubling its previous commitment from €225 million, to strengthen their strategic partnership focused on energy, connectivity, education, and responsible resource development, with the EU bringing environmental standards, transparency, and a 40-year track record of cooperation.

‘We Need Stronger Partnership’: EU Announces €530 Million Greenland Investment Plan | APTAñadido:
Europe has fundamental interests, in how the Arctic develops.
Three of our member states are Arctic states.
The climate dynamics here affect every European and the resources, the routes and the rules that emerge in this region will shape the European economy for decades.
This is why Europe is stepping up.
Later this year, I will present an updated EU Arctic strategy, which I have been ta- ta- tasked to prepare.
It is being built with our Arctic partners, not for them and not about them.
It will not be written in Brussels and delivered here.
Greenlandic input and this formative at this formative stage is one of the central reasons for my visit.
Our partnership with Greenland sits at the center of that strategy.
Not because of what Europe wants from Greenland, but because of Europe wants to build with Greenland.
Our approach is straightforward. We work with partners. We invest where investment is needed and where it serves Greenlandic priorities. Energy, connectivity, education, responsible development of resources.
We bring the highest environmental standards, transparent tools, and a commitment that the value of Greenland's natural wealth is first used to improve the lives of Greenlanders.
We bring predictability, a 40-year track record, a permanent EU office in Nuuk since 2024, and a commission proposal to nearly double our financial envelope for Greenland in the next budget cycle from 225 million euro to 530 million.
This translates into concrete results on the ground. Europe's role is to support that with investments, with standards, with values, and with the kind of partnership that lasts because both sides genuinely benefit.
>> Right now, we are working very hard to get a a stronger and better and maybe more strategical partnership with the EU. So, we are ramping up on our cooperation. But, in terms of being a member state on on short term, Greenland has not decided yet.
But, we we are really interested in a in a better and stronger partnership in Greenland in terms of the the United States, we have a working group. We have a dialogue to try to sort things out. We have progress in that dialogue, but we are not we don't see the finish line yet. So, we have things to do.
Uh in the relationship between the the union and and and the United States, I think it's a bit elsewhere than than me now. But, we have we have our things to sort uh and and and I think we need to respect that working group working.
Signe Rasmussen from Bloomberg. Um is this meeting today and you standing up here Prime Minister together with Commissioner, is that really just sending a message to Donald Trump that we choose we Greenlanders choose cooperation with the EU over the US? I don't think so. I think it's a sign of uh strengthening the partnership between EU and Greenland. Something we have worked on for for actually for a long time also before the escalation of this this Greenland crisis. Uh in Greenland, we know we need to work close together with like-minded countries and and and and union who who shares our values values of democracy, respect for international law and order and and so on.
So, that's the message we are bringing today a stronger and more strategical partnership and we also in terms of what the financial partnership is between Greenland and and the EU. And I think that's the main message.
