She is a native of Louisiana, but she resides in Stockbridge, Georgia. So, I'm happy she can join me tonight and be in the kitchen and we going to cook up some desserts because my other special guest is my long high school friend, Mrs. Tammy Talbert Brown, who's going to be joining us from Louisiana tonight as well. So, she wanted to do a dessert episode. So, we gonna cook up some great desserts tonight. And one of them is a memory of Tammy. So, she's going to talk about that dessert when we get to that part. But I can't wait to show y'all what we cooking up. We getting ready to cook up some great desserts in the kitchen. So, tonight I'm going to introduce to you all our vanilla sugar cookies and I'm going to make my grandma Margie sweet potato bread. Talk about something good. That's one of my favorite things, y'all. So, we still cooking it up. giving you some soul, giving you some love, some food, some family, and some fun. And of course, faith, which is what everything is rooted in. So, we gonna have a good time tonight, and we going to come get your plate. Yes. Yes. Yes. So, Mickey, girl, how was your day today?

[00:05:24]>> It was good. You know, I ain't I I really relaxed today. I had a few errands to run, but after I ran my errands, I came back and, you know, got ready for the show. But other than that, it was a good day. So, let's get down to these vanilla sugar cookies. I'mma give you guys the Tammy. Wait, girl. Hold on. Let me let me let me talk to Tammy. Hey, girl. How you doing today, Tammy? What's up, my girl?

[00:06:03]>> Yeah, girl. The air conditioner went ain't out today and it has been miserable. But I have this little fan, so I'm good now. Fan and this food that I'm seeing.

[00:06:12]>> So, we going to get into these vanilla sugar cookies.

[00:06:17]>> Tammy wanted to make cookies today. So, Tammy, I'm going to let you tell a story about the cookies. You go ahead on and tell them why you wanted me to do these cookies.

[00:06:25]>> Yes. Yes. Yes. Okay, y'all. So, Denise and I have been friends since high school. What? Maybe like 11th grade, 10th grade, around that time. Maybe junior high. I don't remember. But we attended this summer program called Upwardbound. If anyone anyone has ever heard of it, every weekend, and I tell you, every single weekend when we had to return back to campus, Denise always had a dessert for us, whether it was brownies, cookies, or whatever. So, aside from us being friends in high school, what really connected me connected me were those cookies. And when I tell you that connection has been forever and ever, and that taste still in in my mouth.

[00:07:09]Yes. It's good. It's good. So, that's why I just had to have her make those cookies.

[00:07:18]>> Yes. Yes. We started over 30 years. You got the taste of the cookies in your mouth. It's just something you just don't you just can't forget. It's just you just can't.

[00:07:27]>> Listen, I'm going to even jazz those cookies up tonight cuz we going to make them real homie cuz right now I got some pecans going. I'm making some praline pecans to put in my sugar cookies. They going to be so good. Look at there. I got that cooking up right now to go in them sugar cookies. We going to get to mixing these cookies cuz >> we going to be all right. Let me tell y'all the ingredients. We have allpurpose flour. We have sugar. We have eggs. We have butter. We have vanilla and almond extract.

[00:08:03]And um yeah. So, I'mma go ahead and get to mixing. Miki going to stir those pecans for me. She getting the the potato bread stuff ready over there. [00:10:25]I'mma stir in my eggs with my flour and then I'mma add my sugar. We going to get these sugar cookies going. This is a quick and easy recipe.

[00:10:34]It's a 20 minute prep time, but guess what? Only a 10 minute cook time. So, guess what? We talking about 30 minutes.

[00:10:42]You can make you some really, really good cookies. Get you some ice cream to go with it. Man, listen. Gonna be on and popping. I'm adding my sugar into it.

[00:11:12]>> Anniversary cuz I know you just celebrated your oneyear anniversary.

[00:11:26]It's just that that quality time you get to spend with each other that made my day just even more better, you know? So, it was good.

[00:11:38]So Mickey don't talk much, but I'mma see if I can get her to chime in and say something. Mickey, >> so what is one of the memories you have had of any type of dessert I've made? I can't remember if I made any dessert with you or made any dessert for you.

[00:11:55]Tell me what any memory you had of dessert.

[00:12:00]>> I remember the sweet potato pie. Fold over fold over pie. Okay. You used to make at your grandmother. Okay. All right. She said, "I'm fold over sweet potato pies." Listen, let me tell y'all something. Last week, my cousin Shay was on and he brought up those pies to my mama. So, y'all know them folks love those pies. They love them pies. I don't know. Them pies was just up. Mik brought up the sweet potato fold over pie. So y'all know, see Mik, matter of fact, Mik just vetted me. She just told y'all I know how to make grandma sweet potato pie. So Ch, you don't even need to ask. That legacy won't be lost. I know how to make grandma sweet potato pies.

[00:12:49]Sammy, you know anything about them pies?

[00:12:52]>> I don't think I've ever had the pies, >> but you had Oh, definitely. So, now that I'm hearing about the pies, I'm I'm very interested in it.

[00:13:02]>> Okay, girl. I got you. I got you on the pies, too. I'm going just have to just do a whole dessert sw when we get there cuz I got to make sure we get you those pies. Okay, I have mixed up my cookie dough.

[00:13:16]I'm going to add a little bit more flour to it cuz I think I need a little bit more flour, but that's okay.

[00:13:26]And see, every time I go to Miki house, she have a meal ready. We wasn't doing a cooking episode tonight, but I still had to put dinner in the oven. So, Tammy, girl, don't don't get mad.

[00:13:40]>> I'm over here doing some stuffed peppers.

[00:13:44]>> Have stuffed peppers for dinner. And I put some big old nice shrimp in them.

[00:13:48]So, don't get upset.

[00:13:55]Y'all don't get mad with me T cuz I got them peppers in the oven and you know I had to make dinner so cuz me came over here early and I got to make sure my girl eat now. I can't keep her hungry cuz when I go to her house she always have a good meal ready and if she ain't got it ready she getting it ready. So I had to do the same thing.

[00:14:17]>> That's right. That's just how we do though cuz she car number one >> low key over here but she cook too and cook good.

[00:14:25]>> I heard about it >> cook good. She didn't had a catering business. She didn't Listen, I have friends that know how to cook cuz the last time I was at your house, Tammy, I had turkey wings. So I'm just saying.

[00:14:39]I'm just saying my friends know how to cook, too.

[00:14:43]>> But you know how to make that magic happen. I just throw something together.

[00:14:46]You make magic, girl. I don't know what you do to that food, but it just a whole different level of taste once you get your hands to it.

[00:15:07]>> So, get my cookie pan and I'm going to do my little cookies. Flour my little pan.

[00:15:20]Look, I put gloves on all the time, guys. So, I mean, it's just a habit. I keep gloves in the kitchen.

[00:15:35]Yeah. And we're going to get them cooking on now.

[00:15:49]Nikki, what you got cooking up in the pot right there? Talk to the people.

[00:16:26]Yep. My partner in crime. He under the weather. Cookies is ready. I'm going to get a scoop and we going to scoop out some cookies and we going to put them in the oven.

[00:16:41]And while I'm scooping these cookies, Miki is going to start. She cuz she ready. She got her ingredients ready, y'all. Miki is going to be mixing up that sweet potato bread. And this sweet potato bread. This is Grandma Margie's recipe. That was one of my favorite things she made. Sweet potato bread.

[00:17:02]Most people would say a bread, but for us it was a dessert. It's buttery, sweet, and those sweet potatoes. Oh man, it's so good. It's like a crustless sweet potato pie. That's what I would describe it as. A crustlessly sweet potato pie. But it is so good. So, she smashing up her sweet potatoes.

[00:17:26]She going to start mixing her ingredients. She got flour, butter, sugar, vanilla, uh, baking powder. What else you got over there, Mickey? She got a couple of eggs that's going to go in there.

[00:17:39]>> What else you got that's going in there, Mickey?

[00:17:43]>> Vanilla extract, almond extract.

[00:17:46]>> Yep, she got it going over there.

[00:17:48]>> My cook is going in the oven.

[00:17:51]>> And y'all going to get to see my stuffed peppers cuz I'm f to take them out. So, I guess I'mma have to show a picture and just show them just because they coming out the oven. I mean, you know, I'mma go ahead and show those stuffed peppers.

[00:18:06]But don't y'all get mad. It ain't on the menu tonight for the show. So, you can't get the recipe. I mean, you know, it is what it is. I might do that in the next book and let y'all see that recipe.

[00:21:13]That's all I can do tonight. Mickey gonna tell you how they taste. She have a chance to taste it.

[00:21:21]>> Yep. Yep. Yep. I think we have a extra bowl of something over here cuz I got to put the flour and the sugar.

[00:21:28]>> Okay. So, Mickey added all her ingredients in just about she got everything added in there. Let me let y'all see how this good feeling look.

[00:21:41]But put the flour already. Okay. She put her flour in there already, baby. This is the mixture of the potato bread. What else you got to put in here? Vanilla.

[00:21:52]Oh, she going to put vanilla extract.

[00:21:54]So, when she put that vanilla extract, we going to pan it up and it's going in the oven. And let me tell you about the potato bread. the potato bread.

[00:22:06]Literally, it's a 25 minute prep, but it takes about 45 minutes to bake because you want it to be solid and you want it to have the form and texture of the bread. So, you have to let it bake a little longer, but it's well worth the wait when it's finished baking. I promise you, it's well worth wait.

[00:22:29]So yeah, we are excited. Mickey, you ready to pan it up?

[00:22:34]>> Oh, she ready to pan it up. So we going to pan it up. And it rises like bread, but we put it in a thin sheet pan cuz we don't want thick thick bread, like a loaf of bread. So we're not making it like a loaf of bread, but it's going to be like flat bread, sweet potato bread, but it does rise. So it has a little bit of rise in it. It's going to be good. I can't wait. One of my favorite things. I probably could eat the whole pan by myself, but I'mma share it tonight. I ain't going to be brief.

[00:24:22]But like I said, just spending that quality time with uh each other, it made it more enjoyable than going out and about.

I ain't going to put them on all of them cuz want I want them to taste the real real deal the cookie too. I want them to taste the real sugar cookie too. But we going to put a little drizzle on them.

I'm glad you brought that up because I was thinking earlier today that for me to be able to hear from my family that they would rather you over anybody else that they've ever had is such an honor to have been able to introduce them to your table, you know, >> and people still talk about it to this day. Those steaks that you done, they that is in high demand over here in this household, your steak. So yeah, it it was very good. The service excellence, the food to perfection, the setup, the breakdown, everything professionally, professionally done.

[00:33:20]Even the venue where I had the uh the reception at the I guess the owner or whoever she was even she requested you at some point for me for an event that they will have she'll get back in touch with me. So you have put your mark you have put your stamp in this city and thank God for it.

Three of them are missing, but you will definitely see them before my season ends. But these two right here were the first ones that had the time and were able to be here with me tonight. And when I tell you, they are like sisters to me. We don't have to talk every day.

[00:34:49]We don't have to text each other every day, but when we call one another, if we need something, we are truly there for one another in whichever way God allows us to be. So, I am honored to be their friends. I am honored to call them my sisters. I am just blessed that they have been in my life for over 30 years.

[00:35:13]It is important to build great and lasting connections. Um, I'mma tell y'all the truth. Without these ladies, I would not even be here right now.
