[00:00:00]Hey, what's up? Amelia here and you're watching Newsbreak. Today is the 34th anniversary of the Toristra Islander flag. Justina can tell you more about its history and why it's such an important part of Australia's identity.

[00:00:13]We see it flying outside our schools at sports games, government buildings, even where we work. And today, the Toristra Islander flag is 34 years old >> on May 29th back in 1992. So we celebrate the tourist straight flag anniversary today.

[00:00:29]>> This is Bernard Namok Jr. and his father Bernard Namok Senior is the artist who designed the flag for a local competition.

[00:00:36]>> There was an announcement back in 1992 that he won the competition and it was a proud moment for dad and I think for my grandma as well and for all of the family.

[00:00:48]>> The Toristra is the body of water between Australia and Papua New Guinea.

[00:00:52]For thousands of years, Toristra Islander people have lived throughout the region and their culture is deeply connected to the land, sea, and sky, which you can see in the flag. The green represents the land, the blue the sky, the black lines represent the Toristra Islander people, the white diary represents their culture, and the star is an important symbol for peace and navigating the sea.

[00:01:16]The Toristra Islander flag is recognized as an official flag of Australia and Bernard says it's an important symbol of cultural identity for the Toristra Islander people.

[00:01:26]>> I'm really proud that there's a flag that represents us Toristra Islanders and also I'm proud that I've sat there and watched the flag being created at our dinner table.

[00:01:39]>> It was a historic win for the Blues in last night's women's state of origin final. While the Maroons had some energetic defense in the first half, putting the score at a 4-4 draw at Halime, a penalty goal just after 48 minutes gave the Blues the upper hand.

[00:01:54]And after a stellar effort from Jamie Fresard, they ended up with the trophy 12-4.

[00:02:00]>> With the last play of the series, then it's all over.

[00:02:04]>> It makes them backto back series winners and makes them the first women's team to clean sweep a three match State of Origin series.

[00:02:12]Hundreds of kids from across a heap of high schools in the ACT have been bringing their original creations to life on the big stage. Aiden can tell us more.

[00:02:25]>> WHILE this might look a lot like bullying, >> these kids are actually acting.

[00:02:31]>> I hope students >> the program is called act up and gives students hands-on experience in the world of theater. You get a good sense of like the backstage and how actual like live life theater works.

[00:02:42]>> These arrangements are all stories the students have written and put together themselves on topics they're interested in.

[00:02:48]>> Has pushed the world to nuclear war. You get to make people laugh. You get to make people cry and knowing it's yours is just the most exhilarating feeling.

[00:02:56]>> They learn new skills and get to perform in front of a paying crowd.

[00:02:59]>> You get nervous before getting on stage, but the moment you're there, it just feels like home.

[00:03:03]>> It's always a little bit surreal just like, "Oh, this is like actually happening." and they get a glimpse at what a career on and off the stage could look like.

[00:03:10]>> It's been hard work definitely, but it's been so much fun the entire way through.

[00:03:15]>> This is like everything I want in life and I actually get a chance to do it even if it's just like this once or twice.

[00:03:21]>> And now and now robots are taking over.

[00:03:24]>> Robots are Can you stop?

[00:03:27]>> At least they're taking over in these next stories. Meet Hiroshi Ishiguru. And uh Hiroshi Ishiguru. The Japanese uni professor has been working on humanoid robots for decades, including his clone.

[00:03:40]>> Could you tell us our futures of humans and robots?

[00:03:44]>> You look at robots.

[00:03:46]We're really looking at ourselves.

[00:03:48]>> The pair were on display at Tokyo's Humanoid Summit alongside a bunch of other impressive, quite talented, and um interesting robots. Who needs models on the catwalk when you can have robots? A South Korean tech company staged this fashion show in Soul to demonstrate how humans and robots can coexist in the future, even when it comes to looking stylish. And look, while they're a little slower than your average catwalk walker, that strat ain't bad. And forget humanoid like robots. Meet Argus, a headless bot that rolls along on 20 legs with 20 cameras. This so-called new species of robot was created by a team at Duke University in the US. It can see objects in its path and react immediately pushing stuff and walking or even climbing about.

[00:04:35]>> You can go climb between parallel walls under simulated lunar gravity. So, you know, one thing we would love to see is how Argos would behave in uh you know, outer space.
