Invasive species like Sahara Mustard can spread rapidly when environmental conditions are favorable, such as when a dry winter prevents natural mortality through freezing, and their absence from an area for extended periods (10-12 years) can make control efforts more challenging.

‘It is spreading fast’: Officials work to stop growth of an invasive weed in Washington CountyAjouté :
In the meantime, let's talk about this.
A growing invasive weed problem is starting to spread across parts of Washington County. The weed is called Sahara mustard. It's an aggressive plant spreading across I-15. BLM crews and volunteers, well, they took matters into their own and removed the weed from the area by hand. Some officials say the dry winter may be partially to blame. Last year in late October, we got several rain storms that got the weeds going up and then we never did really have a good freeze that might have killed or had a mortality on some of the weeds.
And so, we we've got a spread of weeds that have really taken off.
It's also important to note that Sahara mustard has not been in Southern Utah for the past 10 to 12 years, which also makes it harder to deal with that rapid growth.
