California Earthquake activity tonight..Numerous deep Earthquakes Japan region. SAT Night.

[00:00:03]Welcome back here to a Saturday night.

[00:00:06]It is the Earthmaster out here, July 18th, 2026, 10:39 p.m. West Coast time here in California, where things are starting to light up out here, it looks like, from north to south. Uh, latest activity here on the earthquake 3D globe shows a 2.3 across the area of California. Uh man, big old big old cluster of aftershocks down there across the uh Mexico and Guatemala area. Look at that. Just a pancake of aftershocks.

[00:00:34]One thing I've noticed since that 7.3 struck here a couple days ago is the increasing pressurization east here along that plate boundary. A lot of times what takes place here in the middle America trench where that 7.3 struck uh further pressurizes this area to the east here. The general stress model shows the two arrows pointing towards each other indicating a subduction zone. And a lot of times we'll see that stress transfer inland there to the Caribbean plate. Does look like that's taking place here where this uh 5.1 earthquake struck Cayman in the Cayman Islands area this morning. Uh so we do need to keep an eye here on the Caribbean plate as it looks like things are increasing in that region. So checking in on California here. Noticing a couple different things. One earthquake in the last hour or so, an hour and a half. This just went off the last hour chart. This was red, now it's blue, indicating that it's been past an hour, but a 2.8 out here in the Gorda Ridges. Let me double check, make sure everything's good. Bells are off, mic's on. Okay. Uh, this is a spreading seafloor center. We do have a little bit of activity on that here in the last hour or so. Uh, probably further stressing the southern end of the Cascadia right now. I think we better double check the trimmer counts here and see what we're looking at this evening for a total tally of Wow. Okay. 37. But this uh was tallied up about 6:00 or so in the evening. So, more than likely if there is any elevated trimmer counts from this activity, it will be in tomorrow's update at 6 o'clock. So, we'll have to check back in. But, a little bit of activity there. Also some movement uh a little bit further down the line there in the southern end of the Cascadia.

[00:02:19]Also uh outside of Willows here near Glenn. There's some activity stirring up here. Now there is some natural gas out here. Um a lot of natural gas withdraw I guess is the word I'm looking for. All these little checkered boxes are uh natural gas. But this earthquake that struck here in the last hour shows 19 miles deep for a 2.3. That's a pretty deep earthquake. Uh now the Cascadia subduction zone does not extend that far south. Uh of course, you know, the Cascadia sits up here, but it extends deep underneath the area of Northern California and Southern and Oregon and Washington and the Vancouver Island ranges, but for right now, uh yeah, I don't I don't think that would extend that far south. So, let me see if this has been reviewed or not for that 2.3.

[00:03:09]Still underneath automatic status. So, this will probably get revised to a a little bit shallower earthquake over here around the Clear Lake Volcanic Field. This is not a volcano getting ready to blow. There was a 3.1 earlier this evening. Quite a bit of earthquake activity ramping up here, but this is a geothermal field. There's about 15 or 20 of these geothermal plants here and they drill into the areas below and inject uh a substance there to create some type of dry steam that powers home powers homes there across the Bay Area. So, they're tapping into the uh the heated areas, but also at the same time, we get uh earthquake production, earthquake produced activity.

[00:03:49]San Francisco, look at that. Once again, I I honestly I don't know what's going on here. super quiet. I'm really shocked. I I don't think that's a good sign. Uh so we do have to watch the San Francisco area very closely considering we haven't really seen anything in that area in quite a while. Uh some movement here along the creeping section indicating that the plate here is trying to adjust. That's why we're seeing activity up north and a little bit down south here across the Southern California area. We did have some activity on the Malagu Mal I was going to say Malibu. Is that a new word?

[00:04:24]Malibu.

[00:04:25]Malibu. Coast fault here. Was down here a few years ago investigating that earthquake swarm that was taking place.

[00:04:31]Also, I was looking at the Ranchos Palos Verdius area where the homes are sliding off and slipping uh into the area. And that's I covered that. I have that uh explanation as to why that's happening on my YouTube channel. I went down there, investigated it, did a little research on the whole area. Um, if you're interested in it, I'll um I'll include that video of what I found at the end of this video as an up next video. So, you'll see um up next and then uh the video that I'm talking about if you're interested in it. I got to remember to uh uh set it up that way.

[00:05:09]But anyway, a little bit of activity out there in Southern California on the Saninto fault zone. Uh these things are, you know, this whole area is fairly well stressed out here, folks. We could see a number of large earthquakes out here at any time. For now though, just a handful of smaller microquake activity out there. And there was some on the Malibu uh coast fault here today as well. Looks like a 2.3 and a couple other smaller events out there. San Andreas fault holding on for now. Little earthquake outside of Las Vegas early this morning, a 3.6. Yellowstone. Nothing's showing up here on the map, but it is the weekend and um well, a lot of times they don't report the activity unless it's above the 2.5 level. So, we are going to double check that and see what we have here this evening. If they are working a lot of times the volcano site Oh, there we go. Getting the 504 gateway error.

[00:06:01]That means they're probably down.

[00:06:04]Oh, now they're up and running. That was weird.

[00:06:08]something at night causes the uh issues that we're getting here with the USGS volcano site and it's not me. It's just whatever's going on with their network.

[00:06:17]There's that earthquake swarm that occurred there in the last couple days.

[00:06:20]Let's go ahead and check this out. See if we got anything further going on, which it doesn't look like we do.

[00:06:25]Typical Yellowstone behavior. We'll get an earthquake swarm out of the blue and it will just shut down after an hour or two and that's it. As you can see, there's really nothing going on there in the last 24 hours. Pretty quiet. back to being quiet again.

[00:06:40]Uh nothing new to report across Texas or Oklahoma. These are all oil filled earthquakes. Uh new Madrid seismic zone 1.8 this morning. Uh let's take a look here. Some newer activity up along the Curl Cam Chaka Curl Islands area 4.6 coming in. That 70 miles deep.

[00:07:00]Uh we actually got a number of deep earthquakes out there around this area.

[00:07:03]two of them on the back side of Japan that uh yeah two four-pointers that are fairly deep and now a more recent 4.6 fairly deep. I would watch this area of the subduction zones closely. That deeper activity is a sign that the uh plates are further being shoved underneath the region. So we get those deeper quakes taking place. Watch the areas upstream where the subduction zone uh builds up that stress and strain. The Taiwan Nankai trough Japan area. I did add a U Japan station here to the seismograph stations, but I'm probably going to change that to something else.

[00:07:43]Um I just wanted to see if it would work when I added the JP network.

[00:07:49]But watch that area. Uh across the Philippines there, we do have some activity stirring up in the four and five range. Nothing big, but still getting a lot of aftershock activity from that 7.8 that struck out here a few weeks back. Uh Java Trench fairly active as well. Uh let's see, New Zealand three-pointer down there across South Island. Once again, they've been getting quite a bit of earthquake activity, but nothing in the sense of anything big, but increasing pressure, increasing earthquake activity out here in the last several days. Continue to watch New Zealand.

[00:08:23]Another earthquake coming into the Mexico area. Looks like, man, what a what a big cluster of earthquakes.

[00:08:29]That's just a massive amount of aftershocks. Let's go see here real quick. Little earthquake activity north and south here of the region. 4.7 earlier this evening. Also a 4.4 earlier this morning. So, the middle America trench here is getting uh it's getting some pressure being put on it right now.

[00:08:48]It looks like quite a few uh aftershocks there from that 7.3.

[00:08:55]Had a 5.7 out there this morning. Bunch of fives. So, as of right now, as of right now, this looks normal, but we got got to watch these magnitudes here. If we start seeing them kick up with multiple 6.0 earthquakes or above, that's a sign there that uh we're looking at further major earthquake potential out there. A major stress reliever, so to speak. uh that would, you know, obviously alleviate quite a bit of the stress that's been building up here across the Middle American trench. It can get earthquakes in excess of 8.0. So that 7.3 that struck out here, decent size event for sure.

[00:09:31]Uh let's see here. Let's take a look around the rest of the globe here. Some activity across the Mediterranean region. One earthquake up in Poland earlier. Uh let's see. Iran area looks like we got a couple four stirring up.

[00:09:43]Let's see.

[00:09:45]That's uh outside of Baghdad, north there of Kuwait City. Little earthquake off the plate boundary.

[00:09:53]Nothing uh major happening. Couple smaller quakes around India and the Himalayas.

[00:09:59]But uh I think right now here folks, you know, main got a lot of activity in South America as well, North and South. Got two fivepointers, 5.5 and a 5.5 here. Watch this middle point area. that could uh that could trigger some activity across this area.

[00:10:17]So, watch that. Also, you know, the deeper activity up here across the Japan region. That's a an area to watch here considering that deep movement happening here in the last few hours. Got to watch a deep activity that can trigger uh some uh bigger quake activity upstream. Let's see what we got. 2.3. Yeah, I don't think it's 19 miles deep. More than likely it's going to get revised.

[00:10:42]All right. Uh let's see what else we got out here, folks.

[00:10:48]Atlantic Ocean pretty quiet. Um Alaska quiet as well. Some older quake activity, but uh things are shuffling around out here. And when they shuffle, well, things can happen. So Kevin's revising his uh site out here. Smoky sun. This is kind of neat.

[00:11:11]was put out a few days ago. It looks like he's going to do daily updates or whatnot, which is kind of neat there.

[00:11:18]Uh, nothing major in terms of solar flare activity. We're way down in the B7.5 category still. Flare threat is super low. If you look at these sunspots here, there's just not a whole lot. But look, we can finally see maybe that one large sunspot area starting to finally come back into view. This was back here a couple weeks back on the earth facing side produced the next flare and I think multiple m flares and it grew to a massive size when it was back here on the far side a few days ago but since then it's weakened quite a bit. Um we just barely getting a glimpse of that leading edge of that sunspot. Also couple days day or two behind this sunspot's arrival we're going to see another area back over here on the southeastern limb. And that one uh is a little bit larger and looks a little bit more complex. Here we'll pull up the latest imagery. Here's that one I was just telling you about. Okay, it looks like this is maybe more center uh mid latitude of the sun. Um and maybe not even a day behind possibly about day behind this area down here. Either way, two active areas potentially coming into the earth directed view um in the days ahead. So we'll watch that. Flare threat though for now it's uh remains low 65% chance there for X or C flare M flare at 15 X flare at 1% or less and no major roars in the forecast.

[00:12:42]Uh we do have um a coronal hole here and it's a lengthy one. Looks like it may be starting to gain a little bit of width here with the uh the size of that and it covers a good portion of the sun. We'll watch this and see if it's going to produce any high-speed solar windream at us. And you just never know, maybe stir up some earthquake activity.

[00:13:05]Uh, Storm Prediction Center here for the Sunday outlook. Slight risk here added across the North Dakota area, a little bit out east as well. Uh, less than 2% chance here for any tornado activity.

[00:13:18]Uh, a little bit of wind and a little bit of hail. Looks like main threat's going to be some wind tomorrow. So, just a heads up on that. And for the start of the work week here, got an enhanced zone there for Monday. We'll have to check back on that as we get a little bit more data in tomorrow morning's update. So, anyway, folks, uh, continuing to test this out. I added it onto the live stream here. I can adjust the size of these boxes. I have to dig into the code. Um, but I think what I'm going to do is add a potential menu option here to where I can adjust the sizes through the app, you know, because when I make the change in the code, I have to shut this down and restart everything. Uh, but I am testing it out. It's just a test right now. This is nowhere near the completed version. It's actually um way better still though than um the G program I use. So, it's a big step above that, but there's still quite a few um enhancements that I want to add on to this um Earthmaster Explorer app. So, but I'm testing it out. Got it up and running. Uh so far, the live seismograph stations seem like they're running good.

[00:14:29]They might go offline occasionally, but they should come back up. And I have this thing updating every two to three seconds or so. And I haven't quite got the scrolling smooth scrolling effect here uh that I want. So, I'm probably going to work on that a little bit more tomorrow. Uh I just I needed a break today.

[00:14:49]If you're ever into computer work or anything like that or or your job, um it it's definitely a uh a headache sometimes figuring out all these the codes and stuff like that. So anyway, we'll check back in here on the looks like that's going to be a big severe weather day out there on uh on Monday. So, but we'll check back on that in the morning.
