Mayor Zohran Mamdani skips NYC Israel Day Parade

[00:00:00]Tens of thousands of people showed up for Israel Day on 5th. Security was a top concern for the NYPD and parade organizers.

[00:00:16]>> People came from all over, including Israel, to experience the sights and sounds. This year's theme, Proud Americans, Proud Zionists, underscoring both US identity and support for Israel.

[00:00:30]>> I think that all of New York should be here in solidarity. I think we should be supporting our Jewish friends. I think it should be a huge priority.

[00:00:37]>> Security was tight with the most ever heavy weapons teams, screenings for attendees and vendors, robust camera coverage, drones, and more, according to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch.

[00:00:50]>> There's a lot of security. They've taken a lot of measures.

[00:00:53]>> Thank you, Commissioner Tisch. We feel so safe. Thank you, NYPD, FDNY, everybody who's here protecting us and keeping us safe.

[00:01:00]>> Governor Kathy Hochul was among the dignitaries taking part in the parade.

[00:01:04]She used the event to announce the official signing of the buffer zone bill, meant to protect houses of worship from protests with a 50-ft security perimeter.

[00:01:20]>> One notable figure missing, Mayor Eric Adams. He's the first mayor to skip it in the parade's 62-year history. He says his decision is based on principle, tied to his views on the Israeli government, but he insists the city is fully supporting the parade's safety.

[00:01:39]>> New York City mayor should really be ashamed of himself that he did not come.

[00:01:44]>> Children and families walked along 5th Avenue, proudly waving the Israeli flag with support from allies.

[00:01:51]>> That the JEWISH COMMUNITY IS NOT THE ONLY ONE RESPONSIBLE for standing against anti-Semitism. IT REQUIRES EVERYONE, ALL OF US, every ethnic group.
