After workouts, consuming quick carbohydrates is essential because depleted energy levels keep AMPK (an energy sensor) active, which suppresses mTORC1 (the pathway responsible for muscle protein synthesis and hypertrophy); replenishing energy through carbs signals the body to prioritize muscle building over energy production.

Added:Help me study for my exam by letting me teach you why eating post-workout is actually super important. Now, your body has these things called AMP kinases, and AMP kinases are responsible for energy sensing in your body. So, when your energy stores are depleted, what these things will do is they will turn on and off certain pathways in your body. And we care about two of those: catabolic pathways and anabolic pathways. So, catabolic pathways create energy. The ones that we're caring about is the anabolic pathways. When you turn on catabolic pathways, it will turn off these anabolic ones, such as mTORC1, which are responsible for muscle protein synthesis and muscle hypertrophy. And so, during the workout, these will, you know, the levels for both of these, mTORC1 and AMPK, will go up and down the whole time. What's important is post-workout, if your energy levels are still depleted and super low, your levels of AMPK will stay high, which means that your body will no longer prioritize muscle protein synthesis over energy production. So, make sure you get some quick carbs so that your blood glucose levels can restabilize and that your body can increase the amount of mTORC1. If you learned something new, let me know, and remember, y'all, consistency wins always.
