Everything Was Going Great... Until We Had To Stop Our Cabin Build

[00:00:10]Now I got to sort of make it down that dark scary hole right there.

[00:00:27]So, we got kind of a problem.

[00:00:38]I can't believe how hot it is. And it's just going to get hotter.

[00:00:43]We've got open tar paper everywhere.

[00:00:47]Okay.

[00:00:51]Not only that, we have a huge gaping hole. And as much as it would be like, oh, cool. You know, I've drywalled all everything in here and I can just close off certain things and close off that door. We've got this huge open trust area right here, which I don't want to close in just yet because I've sort of want to see how everything's going to be running and everything. Make sure I'm not going to get get a leak. So, I've got this issue. You know, I don't really like this whole idea of putting one in.

[00:01:18]However, we can't live like this. It is hotter than you know what. So, we sort of got to stop what we're doing and make it liveable for everybody. And the only way I can think of to do it is what I'm about to do.

[00:01:40]What is going on everybody? Today I'm going to get in on on this sink and try to break into the bottom paper that we've got down in the basement and uh get this drain done as well as the water line completely done. There's a couple of things that I'm going to have to tackle to try to do so. One, the sink is pretty much right there on the exterior side of the wall. I do not want any of my pipes or anything in the exterior side of the wall. That's all the insulation right there. I want them to be on the inside of the envelope of the house. Mel wants a corner sink right here. And I had to draw out both sizes cuz I wasn't sure exactly what she wanted. You know what I mean? And I had to find out what can I put there exactly. Um originally I thought I was going to be able to do the smaller one, which is that.

[00:02:34]And the sink ain't going to fit right there. So I've got to go with the bigger one. And what I'm going to end up having to do is put the drain sort of in that corner area over there. And then the water lines I'm going to have to have come up basically right there. Now, here's another obstacle that I'm having to fight. Every single bottom plate that I have on the interior walls, except for the bottom plates that go this way, okay? They're all sitting on the web joist going that way, which is why I had to drill a hole in my subfloor right there. Okay, it was very close to it. So, I was able to get away with drilling those holes and making it to where I barely missed the joist, but I was able to feed these through and keep them in the wall. So, that's pretty cool. However, on these areas right here, I've got to put another wall right here to make it dimensionally what it needs to be. So, that's going to be hidden no matter what. Okay, coming down over here. Same thing. I'm so glad that it landed where it landed so I could keep all my water lines inside the interior wall right there. Now, this drain right here, I'm going to have to notch the vanity and make it to where it can actually, you know, fit there, but then it's going to come up and stay inside the drywall right there with the sanitary tea coming out and I can actually mount it up like a normal sink and all that. But when I say I've never built a house before, okay, and I've never done this before, I mean it. All right, I'm following the plans to the tea of like codewise. What I saw when I was building these is like I want those on the joist. All right. I want it to be as strong as possible. Saying all that, okay, I come back to the plumbing and I'm like, all right, I can't drill a hole through that bottom plate.

[00:04:30]I've got to drill a hole over there for my uh for my or my sanitary tea to go through. I don't know exactly how the makeup of this corner cabinet is going to be because if you look online, there's like five different styles that you can buy. There's so many different ways that these things are built and everything. And it's meant to basically be able to shift one way or another to match this counter and this counter perfectly. So, there's a lot of adjustments from what I'm finding out with these corner ones. So, I'm just going to I'm just going to go for it.

[00:05:06]And I'm going to get this thing drilled out and I'm going to get the water lines set up. So, keeping everything on the interior side of the wall, making sure that none of my pipes freeze. Okay, now we are in Arkansas and it's pretty warm, but at the same time, there's a lot of times where it gets way below freezing.

[00:05:21]That last snowedon or whatever was insane. This will make it to where it's not going to freeze. So, I'm going to make this uh hole real quick and then I got to get downstairs and bust into the paper. Let's do it. I'm going to put my drain right here.

[00:05:46]Yay. I didn't hit any joists. I'm going to have to uh come either this way or I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to go that way. So, I guess I'm going to have to look down in there and see which way I can go. So, let's go down to the basement, start cutting into some stuff and looking uh around. See what I got to do. All right. I'm say that that drain's going to be somewhere in this line.

[00:06:44]I wanted to see where I was because now I got to sort of make it down that dark scary hole right there. Let me grab a flashlight. I'm going to look around up in here and uh see where and how I'm going to be actually running everything through this way because I'm very very very very curious to see uh see what I can do here. I don't want it to be running really in that joist right there or in between just because that just puts it a little bit closer to the uh exterior side. I want to have it more on this side if I can, but it might start in here. And if it starts in here, I can't really drop any more if it's, you know, starting high and I won't have that much of a fall if that's the case. So, I'm more than likely going to have to come on into here and go. So, let me make sure that there's nothing really interfering where I need to go and we'll start to we'll start with that, I guess.

[00:10:28]I guess I'm I'mma open it up somewhere in this area and probably somewhere in this area just so I can move things on down and out of the way. Yay.

[00:11:54]I feel I feel I can't believe how hot it is. And it's just going to get hotter.

[00:12:42]>> We got 95° on the agenda for today. And I believe it's 90° right now in the shade. I have no idea what it is inside this cabin, but guys, it's it's rough. So, we got kind of a problem. All right. We've got open tar paper everywhere. Okay, that now the vapor barrier and the insulation barrier is now going gone and it's going straight to the bottom of the actual floor in the cabin. Not only that, we have a huge gaping hole.

[00:13:19]And as much as it would be like, oh, cool, you know, I've drywalled all everything in here and I can just close off certain things and close off that door. We've got this huge open trust area right here, which I don't want to close in just yet because I've sort of want to see how everything's going to be running and everything. Make sure I'm not going to get get a leak. So, I've got this issue, you know, and I was really trying to hold off as much as I could because it's a lot hotter up there, you guys. And that's going to condensate in between because the due point is what it is and the humidity level in here is just insane. And the only way to combat that is to run a dehumidifier, which my dehumidifier has been running like nonstop. Um, and not only that, put an AC unit in. So, I don't really like this whole idea of putting one in. However, we can't live like this. It is hotter than you know what.

[00:14:12]And uh, yeah, it's muggy in here and everything else. So, we sort of got to stop what we're doing and make it liveable for everybody. And the only way I can think of to do it is what I'm about to do.

[00:14:42]Is it too hot up here when you're sleeping? Aren't you roasting?

[00:14:45]>> I move the fan right up there, so it's blowing on my >> Oh, if you guys can't hear her, she said that she moves the fan right on here, so it's blowing on herself. Julia has been sleeping up here in her bedroom for the last little while cuz she just is so ready to be living upstairs.

[00:15:04]She took the chair and like, you know, she's brought up a lot of her things.

[00:15:09]Needless to say, the important things, you know, like Cheetos, >> Scarlet, I just have it in my room.

[00:15:16]Scarlet's just has a lot of other stuff that y'all need in there. So, >> yeah. And Scarlet has been sleeping up here, too. She's got a cod out. And then Abe sleeps up here once in a while, but he hasn't been sleeping up here the last few days. Just mostly the girls.

[00:15:57]And I'm just trying to find something small enough to where I can shove in the seal.

[00:16:10]I'm finding some pieces of wood that I need to be able to try to support this thing. Um, I'm going to have to build a uh or cut out a piece of something to sort of block the hole.

[00:16:25]>> So, there's that. However, if I can do this, I might be able to do what I'm doing for the door down over at the stairwell and I might just build something like that and shove that in the opening.

[00:16:38]>> Yeah, but we need to be able to use that stairwell still to come up and down.

[00:16:42]>> Yes. But if I can insulate that area instead of just putting a piece of wood, it'd make it a lot like more airtight.

[00:16:53]>> So, I don't know. I'm going to see what I can do. I might do this one completely different than I've done any other one.

[00:18:14]>> So this is the AC unit that we picked up from Walmart. It's a 1200 BTU and it's a TCL. They sell these all over Walmart all the time. You can get these online, too. But like Gary was saying, this one's kind of cool because it does have the remote and it does have the app. Um, not sponsored, but it sure would be nice if it was.

[00:18:39]>> And you can see, you know, they got the small room, the medium room, and then they've got the large rooms. So, this is the the biggest and the medium room category. The next one up at 1,400 is also a regular plug. And then it gets to the different style plugs where it's 240 and whatnot. So >> that's where I went here just to keep above a little bit.

[00:22:15]Now, some of y'all might be wondering what Gary's doing right now. And I'll tell you, he's using that redneck ingenuity. So, you see, we don't have college degrees around here, but what we do have is a little get her done. And Gary, he's full of it.

[00:25:18]So, now that we got some air flying in to the house, we need to figure out a way to keep it downstairs here in the basement. And again, like we talked to you guys about, the biggest challenge is going to be that stairwell area where a lot of the cold air is escaping upstairs. And then also all of this situation with the paper that we have everywhere and the venting holes and uh stuff like that. But Gary is really smart. He works that redneck ingenuity and I think that he's come up with a pretty good solution. I'm gonna let him explain what he's doing and we're going to show you how he's going to get her done.

[00:26:02]Okay. I'm going to utilize basically insulation, stuff these in and make sort of a door that I can open and close from the middle, if that makes any sense at all.

[00:26:13]>> Yeah. So, kind of like a western door sort of. Well, sort of. But I'm I'm going to try to make it as tight as I possibly can cuz you know I'm not trying to air off upstairs where you know it's just venting outside.

[00:30:36]And there's that, you know. And then to put it back, you just Slap it all together.

[00:30:48]And that sort of seals up against the block. This seals up against the wall. I got insulation down there and down there. So, it's not coming through here.

[00:30:59]Now, as soon as I close in all this, it'll actually cool off down here a little bit easier.

[00:31:05]>> But all this is open. So, there's no need for me to even try to close off anything else.

[00:31:12]>> I can't do anything until I finish up everything. And I actually can close in everything up here.

[00:31:19]>> So, that's going to be as cool as it's going to get.

[00:31:22]>> Hey, it's already a thousand times cooler in here, babe. It's so much nicer in here already. Just putting in that stinking wall unit and closing up that hole.

[00:31:33]I think definitely pushes out a lot of cold air. I almost feel like that's a lot more air than the other two. Like it's literally both them combined.

[00:31:46]>> That's nice. Get myself some water and maybe I can get back up into the piping.
