Weather forecasters analyze atmospheric patterns, such as the position of the jet stream, to predict temperature trends; when a U-shaped trough allows cooler air to persist, temperatures remain below seasonal averages, but as the jet stream shifts, warmer air builds in, causing temperatures to rise significantly.

Sunny weather with mild temperatures across the Tri-State AreaAdded:
Uh, a beauty a beauty of a day, Chris. I think today is a day that's going to make a lot of folks happy, especially to be outside this afternoon. Maybe you're not thrilled by this morning chill because it does kind of feel out of place, and that's what our weather watchers are echoing too. This is Adam in uh Middletown. Uh, and he's reporting 30s in May?
Ain't no way, right? It's 36 out there right now, and it definitely does feel like we're heading in the wrong direction. So, he's looking forward to some heat. Now, and I am optimistic that it is a warming trend from here. It's going to be a little gradual, but we'll get there. Now, Bob is noting the difference from yesterday. Of course, we had light rain yesterday.
Uh, the clouds are gone now, but there's a chill in the air. Uh, so temperatures uh have definitely taken a bit of a dip.
Most areas reporting 40s. There are some 30s to the north, too, or where we've got frost and freeze alerts. Sidney and Carbondale are waking up to 37°, but we're all waking up to a brighter day. And that's a good thing. 47°.
Of course, we'll talk pollen. And is it bothering you, too? Because it definitely is getting me at times, and the tree pollen still the main issues we get through the first half of May. Now, day planner still features ample sun, so it's a brighter-looking day. It's a warmer-feeling day, so despite the cooler start, I think you'll appreciate where we go and how it feels this afternoon. Gorgeous gorgeous day for anything outside. Lunch outside, you're spending extra time in the park. It's just all good stuff. Regardless where you are. I mean, if you're in parts of New Jersey, it's mid to upper 60s for you. Meanwhile, Hudson Valley, it's mid-60s. Connecticut, too. I think everybody in the same ballpark. That's despite the fact that highs this time of the year should be in the low 70s. We can see that playing out. For now, though, as we talked about before the break, our pattern's kind of, you know, being driven by this position of the jet stream. And with this kind of U-shape, this trough, that allows cooler air to continue to spill in. And that position, we think, stays put for a couple of days, but with time we're able to move that out of the way and allow some warm air to build in and yeah, we're going to be dialing up the thermostat big time.
Here is how, 60s, 70s and 80s, we've got it all from here.
Definitely a cooler stretch the next couple of days, but then our patience pays off as we'll zoom on into the 70s and 80s through the first half of next week. Now, while we wait for the warmth, there's going to be some wet weather to dodge. This is future cast to show you tomorrow morning. So, notice tomorrow morning all of a sudden, it's not as bright. [clears throat] Clouds are back and there could be a couple of showers mainly to the north as a warm front goes by. With the with the clouds, it's not as cool in the morning tomorrow, so we won't have frost and freeze concerns. Mid 60s as we wait for the rain. Looks like the timing is a little delayed, so we could go all day before the showers get here. But what the time they get here, they could be a little disruptive coming up Thursday morning. But I do think it's a net benefit given the fact that we're still in a deficit, no drought parts of the area. There's a First Alert 7-day forecast. It is a good-looking day. It feels great, too. Just a terrific Tuesday. Showers are back next couple of days. We think the timing is more likely late Wednesday and early Thursday.
Decent day and a Friday and then over the weekend, it is 70s and 80s on the way.
