Family Discovers Grandfather's Body Buried Behind His Own WorkshopAdded:
Okay.
>> Is that okay? Back up. Back up, please.
Back up. Just back up, please. Back up, please.
>> I want to see. I want to make sure.
>> Back up.
>> Kim, calm down. Oh my god.
>> Okay, back up. Back.
>> November 3rd, 2024, police discovered a body buried in a shallow grave behind a shop in Moses Lake, Washington.
Investigators immediately faced a disturbing question. How did the body end up there? Who was responsible for burying someone behind the property?
Because whoever buried the body appeared to know exactly what they were doing.
The grave had been covered carefully from the surface. There was almost nothing obvious suggesting a body had been buried there at all. But before detectives could even fully piece together what happened, another detail about the case started raising even more suspicion.
Somehow, members of the victim's own family already seem to know the exact location of the body. But how how were they able to point investigators directly toward the grave site? And as police started reconstructing the timeline, the entire case only became more confusing. Stories kept changing.
>> I already know who [ __ ] did it.
>> Listen to me.
>> Get out of your car and come get my kid.
Put him in cuffs right now.
>> Don't Don't say anything right now. We don't know. Family members started contradicting each other and investigators struggled to determine who was actually telling the truth because hidden inside hours of police body cam footage was a trail of strange behavior, inconsistencies, and small details that slowly exposed what really happened behind the walls of the home.
>> Do it.
>> Look at me. Did you do it?
>> Please, I need you to stay back, sir.
>> Like I said, when I got there, bro, it was weird.
weird, weird. And I'm like, man, something's not right.
>> What initially appeared to be a missing person's case was now turning into one of the most twisted family murder investigations the area had seen in years. And by the time detectives finally realized what was actually happening inside the family, the truth was far darker than they expected.
Earlier that day, police in Moses Lake were responding to a reported stolen vehicle. According to the call, the owner of the truck hadn't been seen for some time. Officers began searching the area, trying to locate the vehicle and figure out who had taken it. But when police eventually found the truck, the situation immediately started feeling strange. Inside the vehicle was 27-year-old Isaiah Thomas, a former college athlete. And at the time of the stop, Isaiah was reportedly armed. But officers speaking with him appeared completely unaware. And at that moment, police still had no idea how important this interaction was about to become.
>> Hello.
>> Hey, go and guide all the car truck, please.
>> Here's what happened. The truck was reported as stolen. Okay.
Who Whose truck is this?
You talk to me, man.
>> It's my truck. It's your truck. Okay. Do you have your ID registration? Just go and turn it off, please.
I apologize if it's your truck, but I have no way to verify that. Some neighbor called in saying it's an old man's truck.
>> You good or not?
>> You're okay to get your registration.
>> I don't got it on me. Okay.
Isaiah, you don't have the registration in the truck. It wasn't registered in your name, man.
>> Yeah, I know. Okay.
>> There's ammunition in the front seat.
>> Okay. Where'd you buy it?
>> Almost immediately after approaching the truck, officers noticed ammunition inside the vehicle. That discovery prompted police to ask 27-year-old Isaiah Thomas to step out of the truck.
>> Just Just go ahead and step out of the car. Okay.
>> What up, Greg? What's up, man?
>> Alvarado.
>> Yeah. How you doing, Isaiah?
>> The day.
>> Another day.
>> Don't tell me anything you right now.
>> No. No. Make sure you don't have any weapons on you. Okay.
>> I do got a weapon on me.
>> What do you have?
>> I think I got a knife right here. Knife.
Pocket knife.
>> Yeah.
>> Okay. I'm just going to take that out while we talk to you. Fair.
>> This one. That's it. Okay.
>> All right. You put your hands behind you back.
During the stop, officers discovered a knife in Isaiah's possession. That discovery immediately changed the tone of the interaction. Police detained Isaiah and placed him into the back of a patrol car while officers continued trying to understand the situation surrounding the truck. As things unfolded at the scene, officers contacted Isaiah's mother to verify information about the vehicle.
Hello.
>> Hello. This is Officer Alvado with the Mosake Police Department. I'm trying to reach Cassie.
>> This is she.
>> Hey, do you have a son, Isaiah?
>> Yes, I do.
>> Hi. Um um what's going on? So, we had a call earlier about him being in someone else's vehicle >> and um we're we're trying to figure out if he owns he he's in a truck now, a gray Chevy Silverado.
>> Okay.
>> We're trying to figure out if this is his truck or not, cuz he's saying it is, but I guess the neighbor the person that called about him said that he stole the truck from another neighbor.
>> No. Uh, are you with him right now?
>> Yeah.
>> Does it have Alaska plates?
>> Yeah.
>> Okay. Yeah, that's his his and his grandfathers.
>> Okay. Who's his grandpa, if you don't let me ask?
>> Richard.
>> Richard.
Okay.
>> Yeah. So, yeah, he probably let him borrow it.
>> Okay.
>> Yeah. Uh, he's staying with his grandfather right now.
>> What's the address?
>> It's >> uh 430 Dale Road.
>> Yep. That's where the truck was taken.
>> Okay. Well, >> okay. That's weird.
>> Yeah. No, that clarifies something because we we thought potentially this truck might have been stolen, so we were trying to figure it out.
>> Um, >> no, I'm sorry about that.
>> No, no worries. Um, >> yeah.
>> I went to I went to high school with Isaiah. He wasn't never really like this. Is everything okay?
Um, it should be he should be fine.
>> Okay. Hey, >> he just seemed a little bit off to me when he was talking.
>> Well, probably because he's being accused of something he didn't do. So, >> I don't I don't know.
>> It's his truck.
>> It's his grandpa's truck.
>> Yeah. He He lives at 430 for a temple.
>> Yeah.
>> So, we can unhook him and Yeah.
>> He's free to leave. We don't Do they want to charge us for >> Yeah, they do. Okay. So, >> okay. So, I can Where is he at right now?
>> Um, we're about to release him right now. We're here next to Porter House.
>> Oh, okay.
>> Okay. Well, then I won't call him until >> Yeah, that's kind of awkward. All right.
>> Yeah, but thank you for answering my phone calls and my questions. It actually helps out a lot.
>> Okay. All right.
>> Okay. Thank you.
>> Thank you. Bye.
>> Bye.
One of the responding officers revealed that he actually knew Isaiah personally and had gone to school with him years earlier. Because of that connection, the officer later pulled Isaiah aside and spoke with him oneon-one before eventually releasing him from custody.
>> I get him out.
All right, I'll get a handcuff. Okay, you're the one you're under arrest.
>> You living with your grandpa now?
>> Remember me? You don't remember me, do you? I remember you, man. Tough tough times right now, >> huh?
>> The knife you had on you in the back of your truck.
>> Sorry, bro. Let's walk over to the front of your truck real quick. I just want to show you something right now.
>> Hey, so I know you didn't want to talk about this, but it it's cool. You don't have to, okay? But um the fact was that you were in someone else's car and they want to pursue charges for that. So I am going to be filing charges with the prosecutor's office for attempted vehicle fra. Okay. Is that Dale the 430 Dale address your grandpa's house? Is that good a mailing address for you?
>> Yeah.
>> Okay. So you all right, man? You you like off the books. Do you want to talk about anything?
>> Cuz I'll turn off my camera right now.
We can have a conversation, bro. like uh it's like like to be real, bro.
>> To be 100% real, it's just like we're at a time right now, bro.
>> Yeah.
>> There's it's a time in everybody's life, bro, where they just need to like really re-evaluate what the [ __ ] >> Yeah.
>> is going on, you know?
>> Yeah.
>> Cuz there's some [ __ ] going on that >> Anything you want to talk about with me?
>> Oh, no, bro. It's just like it's deeper.
It's deeper. It's a lot deeper than what we see.
>> Okay, >> that's all.
>> All right, man. Well, if you need anything, please don't hesitate to call. I'll sit down and have a conversation with you.
>> Sure.
>> All right.
>> Yes.
>> Take care.
>> After speaking with Isaiah and his family officers ultimately decided to let them go. At the time, police had no idea they were speaking with people who would soon become connected to something far more serious than a missing vehicle report.
And within just a few hours, a discovery behind the property would completely change the direction of everything. Two hours passed. The Moses Lake Police Department switchboard lit up. A frantic voice on the other end, a family member reporting a missing person.
>> Can I help you?
>> Um, yeah. Um, I was wondering if I could speak to somebody about a missing person >> in Moses Lake.
>> It's my father. Nobody's seen him. Yes, Moses Lake.
>> Okay.
And his first and last name >> Richard Andrews.
>> And what is his home address? Is it the 430 Dale?
>> Correct. All >> right, Kelly. I've got this report started. I'm going to hand it over to the officers. I just need you to try and find a recent picture of him and if you hear from him or anything changes before they contact you, go ahead and give us a call back and let us know. Okay.
>> Okay. After receiving the call, police were dispatched to the property in Moses Lake to gather initial information from the family surrounding the grandfather's disappearance. Concern had continued growing throughout the day as relatives tried to figure out where he had gone and why nobody had been able to contact him as officers arrived at the property and began speaking with family members.
The situation slowly started becoming more concerning.
>> Sorry. Jeez. So, we have no idea. the neighbor um talked to my husband. This my husband Mike.
>> Hi Mike. I'm sorry.
>> Hasn't seen him in a day and a half or so. I haven't seen him longer than that, but um >> yeah, >> who lives here?
>> My son.
>> Okay. Isaiah. Oh, that this is Isaiah lives here.
>> Okay. Does Isaiah know where he's at?
Where he was?
>> Hasn't seen him for a day and a half either. So, nobody's knows. Like I said, his wallet's here, his phone's here, his glasses here.
>> Uh his friend's been calling his phone.
Nobody his um talk to his friend to the >> He does have a his phone. You said >> he does not.
>> He does not. But his friend is here.
He's been calling. Okay.
>> His phone is here. His phone's been ringing. His sister's called. Nobody knows where he's at. So >> Okay. And this is this normal?
>> No.
>> What's wrong?
>> Okay.
What's at?
>> Nothing.
>> Do Do you know Do you know where where is it? Your grandfather?
>> Yeah, it's my grandpa.
>> Do you know where he's at?
>> No, I have no clue where he's at.
>> No.
>> Did he didn't tell you anything where he was going? Did you see him leave?
>> No. So, basically what I did see was him talking to somebody out here and he was not in the street street. He was kind of like parked a little farther out like he pulled off to the side a little bit. They're talking in the window. I looked down. That's it.
>> And that was yesterday.
>> That was a day and a half ago.
>> So, >> that's what he told me too about a day and ago. So, okay.
>> That's same with the neighbor here.
>> So, the last time was about a day and a half. And you haven't seen him in about 5 days.
>> Yeah, it's been longer than that because I Yeah, I was here Friday night.
>> You did tell me that he was going up to the res, but I just got confirmation from Greg, right? But he's not there, so I don't know.
>> Which resz?
>> Uh Callville.
>> Callville. Yeah. Okay.
>> Yeah, he has a property up there, but we already put a phone call up there. They said no, nobody.
>> Nobody's there. Okay.
>> And he wouldn't go without one of his own vehicles. He's never gone without his own truck. As officers spoke with family members at the property, body cam footage captured very different reactions from the people inside the home. Some appeared worried and confused about where the grandfather could have gone. Others remained noticeably calm while speaking with police. And as officers continued asking questions, the situation only seemed to become more unclear. At that point, police were still treating the situation as a missing person's call, but the atmosphere around the property was already starting to feel unusually strange.
>> So, you said you said you saw him a day about a day and a half ago and that would have been so yesterday afternoon sometime or the day before?
>> Yesterday. Yesterday. No, not yesterday.
Was that a day? A day and a half ago.
>> So, Friday. Today, Sunday.
>> Friday.
>> So, what that's the first Yeah. 31st or Thursday. So, yeah. So, November smoking the weed, bro.
>> The uh So, the So, okay. So, Friday. And what what when you saw him, what were you doing? What was going on with that?
>> Right there smoking.
>> Okay. And where was he?
>> Right there talking to that guy. And then I looked down. Boom. And then that was that.
>> Okay. It's it's officer.
>> So, I didn't like what what what I've learned with my grandpa is that like don't bother him unless he needs help.
You know what I'm saying?
>> I know. But so this guy that he was talking to >> I don't know if it was a guy or a girl.
I didn't see who was in the car.
>> So he's talking to somebody and then the next thing you know he's he's gone.
>> It's not It wasn't like that. It wasn't like It wasn't like >> Did you see him after that?
>> No. Yeah, I didn't see him. I just just saw him talking to somebody and I looked back down on my phone and I didn't that was it.
>> Okay. And since that time you you haven't heard him come in. He hasn't been back to the house since >> No. But what I did know what I did hear him say was he was going to the Reds.
>> Okay. Yeah.
>> So that was that and I was like, "Oh, and that car and his truck wasn't here."
>> And so you But you thought >> you could have got in the car, followed him. You could have >> did I don't know, bro. Like >> Okay.
>> While officers continued speaking with family members at the property, another relative named Anthony arrived at the scene. And within moments, he would provide police with a crucial detail connected to the victim.
>> You see what I'm trying to say? I'm trying to >> They're not far away from each other.
They're right near the main house.
>> Yeah.
>> You talking about up there? Yeah, >> you need to go down to a shop. Take some pictures down there >> for where?
>> To a shop down there. To me, it looks like there's something going on down there. Looks like some burnt [ __ ] that's laid out there. And some >> Where's the shop?
>> The shop's down in the valley.
>> You know where the motorcycle shop is?
>> Yeah. Okay. So, what's going on with that?
>> That's just If he's not here, he's usually down there.
>> Oh, I got you. I thought something Do you think something else is going on down there?
>> No, no, no, no. I'm just saying that if he's not here, he's down there.
>> Asking >> No. Well, what I'm saying is that's something that was out there. It was looked like there was some burnt up [ __ ] out there that's never been there.
>> Okay. What What What's that address out there?
>> What's address >> on Valley Road?
>> It's not really an address.
>> I order a couple times.
>> It's across.
So, you know where the motorcycle shop is. Then there's a Green Pole building.
Then it's old fire station right behind there. I don't know the address.
What's Carmen's address? a day and a half ago.
>> Bro, why y'all keep alling?
>> No, pissing me off.
>> You're pissing me off, too.
>> Okay.
>> Everybody pressing me like I >> You're the You're the closest thing to his to him.
>> Okay. See, that's why >> I'm I'm not going to No need to get >> I just I keep repeating.
Did I >> I think I need to uh there might be another address to go check in the valley where he's working, but I'm trying to work on it.
>> While other officers remained at the home, continuing to gather information from the family, Anthony mentioned a workshop property connected to the victim. In response, one of the officers was dispatched with him to a separate location in the 7600 block of Stanley Drive, Ne. The property was located several miles away from the family home police had originally responded to. At that point, police were still trying to piece together a confusing missing person situation >> into the system.
>> Okay. I I'm just letting you know just so you don't know what he was wearing or can't remember what he was wearing.
>> Okay.
>> I think Okay, we leave that.
>> No, those are in the house.
>> So, any any remember any jewelry?
>> Jewelry?
>> No, you don't wear jewelry.
>> Let me let me I'm sorry. Let me talk to him. Thank you.
>> Okay. Um his I mean you got Does he have any scars, marks, or tattoos or anything?
>> He has long ear loses >> from >> I don't know >> from Is it a hole or are they just long?
>> Are they long or is there >> It's he had surgery on it so it's very elongated. I guess would be >> It's all attached.
>> Yes.
>> Okay. But they're just long big ears.
>> He looks >> He looks normal. Native American. You asked me what scar I don't know. I don't know what to say.
>> Okay.
>> No tattoos, no >> no scars from surgeries, anything like that. Okay.
>> But as officers finished asking questions at the house, Isaiah's mother suddenly provided police with a crucial piece of information.
That's my face. Hello.
>> Get out of your car and come get my kid.
Put him in cuffs right now.
>> Say that again.
Is there Okay. Did you get caught? Okay.
Don't uh Don't Hold on. Don't Don't say anything right now. We don't know.
>> Well, thanks for the car.
>> Okay. So, yeah, let me know. Okay, thank you.
>> And despite the detail, officers still didn't appear overly suspicious at the time since they had very little information and no clear probable cause pointing toward a crime. Within minutes, police began shifting their attention toward the workshop property. And what officers were about to discover there would completely transform the situation.
We found some tart right here. The truck must There was a truck that must have backed up right here. Right.
>> Okay.
>> Is that okay? Back up. Back up, please.
Back up. Back up, please. Back up, please. I want to see. I want to make sure.
>> Back up.
>> Calm down.
>> Oh my god.
>> Okay. Back up. Back up. Please. Back.
Back up. Back up. Back up. Back up.
Okay. Ma'am, can you come this way, please?
Ma'am, can you come this way, please?
Ma'am, 141. like I need 106 to my location.
>> What officers discovered near the workshop was far worse than anyone at the scene appeared to be expecting.
Buried in a shallow grave was the body of 75-year-old Richard Andrews, and almost immediately the atmosphere around the property completely changed. Body cam footage captures officers securing the area as the realization slowly set in that this was no longer a missing person situation. Within moments, the entire scene was being treated as a homicide investigation.
Okay.
So, we're having the county respond.
Okay. And their supervisor is going to come and they're probably going to set up a containment. Okay. Please, I I just ask that you guys try try to cooperate as much. I I can't make any I can't make any promises.
>> No, we're not leaving.
>> Okay. Well, ma'am, >> I'm not calling a room right now.
>> I will tell you this.
>> Is somebody over there that little psychopath?
>> Hold on. If you want to do what's best for >> No, what I wanted.
I just I just need you guys. Please don't. Okay. I just need you guys to at least try to have some understanding, okay? And I want you guys to listen.
Please, can you do that for us? That way, we can make sure that we do things right.
Okay? After the body was discovered, body cam footage shows relatives remaining near the scene as officers work to secure the area around the grave site. As additional officers arrived at the property, a senior official eventually stepped in and began taking control of the scene and almost immediately the difference in experience became noticeable. The tone of the conversations changed. Officers began moving with far more urgency.
>> Get away, please, ma'am. Ma'am, we we we need we need to preserve. Okay, come on.
Come on. We need to make sure that we do this. Okay.
Here. Here. I'm right here.
>> No.
>> Okay. I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
>> Yeah.
>> Looks like there's some stuff burned.
>> Okay. We need some >> We need everybody. Please. We need everybody back, please. Okay, ma'am. We do need everybody out of here. If you want, we need to preserve this. Okay. I get it. You're upset. But if you want justice, >> I already know who [ __ ] did it.
Listen to me, please. I know you know we need other things to make this work.
>> Please. Please.
>> Do not start talking. Please don't say anything. Just be quiet. Please.
You know what? What's going on over there already?
>> I get it. that we need. I've heard everybody, but we need things to figure out.
>> 106. Mac, we need uh units down at 4:30.
Dale, >> I'm going to start taping.
>> Perfect.
Yeah.
I need to see.
>> No, we can't. We can't. We're going to >> I just need to see just go around that way.
>> Oh my god.
>> That's going to be his, but the family members are the ones driving it. So, >> no.
Please.
>> No. No. No. You can't go now. You can't.
Listen. Listen. He's got to [ __ ] Anthony, we can't we can't cross. Okay.
Okay. I know. I'm not going to go past.
>> She She just wants to look over the line. We won't just She won't go past the line. I'll make sure. Look by the door.
>> Please. By the door. Okay.
>> I know it's tough. I need everybody to to start moving that way, please. Okay.
>> You want me to move my car out of the front, too? Or >> just just back. You can just back up.
Okay.
>> I don't have my car back here. I recommend in front.
>> Okay. Yeah. If you can get out, >> ma'am, please.
>> Get out. Get behind.
>> We're going to have to leave the truck here for now.
>> Where am I?
>> I just want you to walk that way, please.
>> 106. Mac, I have the uh father heading down to 430 Dale and possible suspect is there and it might not be good.
As the investigation rapidly escalated, police began receiving growing concerns from family members who believed Isaiah Thomas might somehow be connected to Richard Andrews murder. And before the situation inside the family could spiral any further, officers rushed back toward the Dale Road residence to locate Isaiah first because by that point, police already knew Isaiah had been driving Richard's truck earlier that day. And now with Richard's body discovered buried in a shallow grave only miles away, the earlier traffic stop suddenly carried a completely different meaning.
Body cam footage captures officers arriving at the house before Anthony Thomas could confront his son himself.
Police approached Isaiah carefully, still unsure how dangerous the situation might become. At that point, officers were moving quickly to detain Isaiah while the homicide investigation continued unfolding around them.
Hey, Isaiah. Listen, man. Just got to got to detain right there. Let her get her punch back. Nope. Nope.
>> Just stay back.
>> Stay back.
>> Stay back.
>> Back up.
>> Stay back.
>> Go back now.
>> No. Come on.
Did you? I see you.
>> Need you guys to stay back. Okay.
>> Please.
>> Just left. Secure him in your car.
Thomas.
>> Frisk. Frisk him for weapons. Please.
>> Did you do it?
>> Please stay back, sir.
>> Sam, did you do it?
>> Look at me. Did you do it?
>> Please. I need you to stay back, sir.
>> Did you do it, Isaiah? Look at me.
Yeah. You're my first born. Did you do it >> there? One more time.
>> I just want my lawyer so bad.
>> What?
Stay here.
>> Go ahead and get in here.
>> Take a seat.
Close the door.
>> Here's the deal. That's family.
>> Okay.
>> Other family members deceased, right?
>> Yeah.
>> So, they came down here to confront him cuz they think he did it. Yeah.
>> The only reason he's in custo right now, we don't >> I thought he was like the suspect.
>> No, we don't have AC or reasonable Right now he's in there because I think he did it. We need to keep them separated.
Okay.
>> Okay.
>> Got it. Cool.
>> After being detained outside the Dale Road residence, Isaiah Thomas was transported away from the scene while officers remained behind to continue searching the property. And as police started examining the home more closely, they quickly began finding evidence that dramatically changed their understanding of what had happened. Inside the residence, officers discovered multiple weapons, including guns and knives. But even more concerning, police also began noticing what appeared to be blood near the back area of the home and around the doorway. At that point, investigators were beginning to realize Richard Andrews may not have been killed near the workshop property at all. Instead, the evidence now seemed to suggest the murder had likely happened inside the house itself, which meant someone had allegedly transported the body miles away before burying it in a shallow grave in an apparent attempt to hide the crime. At that stage of the investigation, police still had very little direct evidence explaining exactly what had happened inside the home. But that slowly started changing after officers went to collect the clothing Isaiah had been wearing following his arrest.
>> You take off your shoes for us.
What's up?
>> You need to take off your shoes.
>> All right.
>> And then how many shirts you get on?
>> Okay. Mr. should come to you. Take off your shoes and then take off your sweatshirt.
>> Bro, it's hella cold.
>> Okay, I'll try to get you another blanket. You got two blankets there.
I'll try to get another one.
>> Oh [ __ ] >> But your hood has strings in it and you can't have those in here. So, take off your sweatshirt, please. So, take off your sweatshirt, please.
According to reports, investigators immediately noticed possible blood and dirt stains on parts of the clothing and shoes. And as more evidence started emerging, suspicion around Isaiah only continued growing, which led police to begin pulling additional family members aside for further questioning as the investigation rapidly intensified. The first person detectives brought in for an interview was Cassie Thomas, Isaiah's mother. Because by that point, nearly everyone inside the family appeared to be pointing suspicion toward Isaiah, and detectives wanted to understand why.
Were the family members genuinely afraid of him? Or had they started noticing warning signs long before Richard Andrews body was discovered? Because according to investigators, the family's behavior in the hours leading up to the discovery was beginning to raise serious questions.
>> When um you went to Sergeant Endriguez and he made the comment that it's it's him. You need to get him in cuffs. You need to get my son in cuffs. Why for you in that moment did you you know you knew it was Isaiah?
Where was your mind set up?
I know I'm asking you to explain like a gut instinct. It's just >> I was just the things he kept saying like you guys why are you pressing me? He's like he's gone all the time, weeks at a time. I said how long has it been since you've seen him? And he's like a day and a half. And I'm like, >> so you've got kind of every other family member that's here that's worried and everything like that. And >> yeah, >> his response didn't seem to match your guys's, >> right? But for him, that's how my dad was. He was back and forth.
It was just the whole truck thing.
>> Mhm.
>> It's like, but what did he say? He said, "Oh, I thought he took the Denali."
>> That's what he was trying to imply. And I was like, "Well, we had we had it."
>> And he he knew you.
>> And when he said, "I'm sorry." My answer to the call said, "I'm sorry." And I was like, "Did he mention anything else other than I'm sorry?" Did he say what he found out?
>> During the interview, detectives asked Cassie why. During the initial missing person's response, she immediately told officers to detain Isaiah. And according to reports, Cassie explained that the situation surrounding Richard Andrews disappearance already felt deeply wrong to her. Because Richard's truck was still in town, his personal belongings were still inside the house, and Isaiah's behavior throughout the day had only increased the family suspicions. At that point, detectives were beginning to realize the family had started fearing Isaiah even before Richard Andrews body was officially discovered. But with investigators still struggling to fully understand the timeline, they soon decided to bring in another key family member for questioning, Anthony Thomas.
And I know this sometimes seems an obvious question, but it's based towards your perspective and basically you looking at all the facts and information that you have.
What made you believe Isaiah did it when all this happened when you're on scene and everything like that?
>> Because and I I guess I forgot to tell you guys that part too before he sat down before he gave me the the finger.
He sat down and I was talking about like the the uh he sat down. I was talking like kind of like the debris stuff. He took his shoe off and he kind of like looked at it and then I was like, "Okay, so why would he why would he look at his take his shoe off now?" He's high as [ __ ] He was out there smoking in front of the cops, you know, like and then Oh, I'll put it out. You know, >> took his took his shoe off and looked at it. And this is after who's talking about debris?
>> Me. I told the uh I told officer Rodriguez, "Hey man, we got to get down to the cuz I think there's like some oil stuff down there and some black burnt up stuff and >> and then he he sat at the he sat down and he took his shoe off and he like looked at it. Then he put it back on. I was looking down at his shoes and that's kind of like when we looked at one another. He gave me the finger right after that.
Just like that.
>> Yeah, I think that's it, too.
If anything comes up later, we can always give you a phone call or >> any idea what he might use for a passcode for the device for his phone.
>> During Anthony Thomas's interview, detectives began noticing that multiple family members were describing the same disturbing pattern of behavior surrounding Isaiah in the days leading up to Richard Andrews murder. According to reports, Anthony told investigators the family had become increasingly concerned about Isaiah's mental state and unpredictable behavior. But despite the growing suspicions surrounding Isaiah, detectives still didn't have hard proof tying him directly to the killing. And with no clear answers yet, investigators continued pulling additional family members in for questioning while they worked to piece together what had happened inside the Dale Road residence.
>> All right, so feel free to sit anywhere here. My body camera recording. All right.
>> Um, so I know you have questions for me and then obviously I have questions um for you and I think they're both geared around the same thing. Um, so let's start with you. What can I do for you today? Uh the thing that I want to come in and say is like I said, you guys want to speak to who you could give um a point of view of what I assume or cuz I can't really call it for sure, but I can just give you what made me think after before the fact.
>> Mhm.
>> It happened and it's obvious and I'm like, "Wow, this is wow."
>> That's why. So, I'm going to start now from when um Isaiah Thomas was uh taken to the hospital from down in the valley.
>> Okay.
>> When he had an episode, but I was there and I knew he was having an episode and I told her, I said, "Hey, something's wrong." I said, "You guys might want to be careful. He's he's actually >> And who did you say to her?"
>> I said it to Chrissy Andrews.
>> Okay. So, you were at the house at the time that all that stuff was happening where he had his mental episode and then County responded. He went to the hospital.
>> Yes. Yes.
>> Okay.
>> And so they let him out. They let him out. So we end up coming back from Spokane cuz that's where she was working at at Amazon. That's where we're at.
>> And so as we go to Spokane and so we get a call 2 days later while we're in Spokane said, "He's tripping. He's pulling out the gun. He's pulling out knives. He's doing this." I said, "I told you guys. I told you guys." I said, "I told you something was not right with you, bro. Something's wrong."
>> And I visit him. We're in Spokane. And we get a call. Anthony Thomas calls me and says, "Hey, you might want to go get her from work." I'm like, "What are you talking about, bro?" He said, "You might want to go get her." I said, "What the hell are you talking about?" I said, "For what? She's at work." "No, go get her." I said, "Bro, what's going on?"
"We think Isaiah killed Richard." I said, "What the hell?" I said, "Oh my god." So, I stress out. So, I go to the job. I go get her and uh we travel back and from and then when I found out that He actually was passed during that moment that I went over there to go check on him. I said, "That's why she was like that. That's why she was pale." Because they did, you guys did an investigation.
You guys went over there to the scene and it was cleaned up. That kid does not clean.
>> That kid does not pick up after himself.
And then there was a comment made by um um um um Carmen Andrews's husband when they found him saying, "Oh, that's my tarp.
Where did where did this kid Isaiah get her tarp from?"
>> Mhm.
>> Okay.
So, I guess just uh so I'm on the same page as you, you guys believe that Isaiah's mom >> knew that he that >> she had she had knowledge of it.
>> Richard, she had to have knowledge of it. I mean, she kid that kid wouldn't have cleaned that kid wouldn't have done none of that because he ran over to the neighbor's house and tried to take their car. Did you guys get that information?
>> Yes.
>> All right. So, he's sporadic. He's not cleaning. He's trying to just He's running off. He's trying to get off.
He's trying to run off. He's trying to do whatever he can do to get out of the situation. He's not thinking about cleaning. He's not thinking about picking this guy up and putting him in the back of the truck and burying him and then go down to the valley to go get a tarp, then go back up there in her dad's truck and they see it and go back up to the house and wrap him in the tarps, then come back down to the valley, which is across the street from their sister's house, and bury him auntie's house. When you said that you you believe that she knew, do you believe that she helped cover the body >> and clean up?
>> I can't I can't go that far. I can't go that far because he doesn't have that mentality.
>> No, I'm talking about Isaiah's mom.
>> Yeah, she doesn't have that mentality. I can't I can't say that part. Okay.
But even as suspicion continued building around Isaiah, some family members still weren't completely convinced he could have carried out every part of the crime alone. According to later interviews, one relative reportedly told investigators they didn't believe Isaiah was capable of carefully cleaning the house and burying Richard Andrews body by himself. And because of that, questions slowly began shifting toward whether somebody else inside the family may have known more than they admitted to police, especially Cassie Thomas.
Because according to relatives, Cassie appeared unusually frightened in the days surrounding Richard's disappearance. And for investigators, that created an entirely new layer of uncertainty inside the case. Was the family genuinely trying to help detectives uncover the truth, or were some of them hiding pieces of what really happened? But while detectives continued building their case through forensic evidence and family interviews, another disturbing development would emerge months later from inside the jail itself.
>> So, we're both detectives of Mostly PD. Uh, first off, we're not here for your case.
Uh, you're not in trouble or anything like that. This is about a different case that we wanted to talk to you about.
>> All right.
Um, so we're investigating a case where uh with Isaiah Thomas, we know that he's in your same dorm >> that you've been in and the dorm. Um, we got some info that he's been kind of talking about his case as far as like what happened and there's like word that goes around on the dorm uh as far as what happened. Uh, so that's why we're here to talk to you about it. Um, what have you heard as far as like his case?
Uh well that he killed his grandpa.
>> Yeah.
>> That he let his throat open.
>> Okay.
>> And that before he killed him that he asked him if he believed in God.
>> Oh really?
>> Yeah.
>> What the grand what did the grandpa say?
>> Uh that he did.
>> Okay.
>> And then uh he just did it.
>> Okay.
>> Yeah.
>> One thing I didn't tell you is we do have a her body camera is on recording our conversation. Um, as far as did he did he say why he killed the grandpa?
>> Uh, >> oh yeah, he was they his grandpa was raping him.
>> Oh, really?
>> Yeah. Since he was a little kid.
>> Okay.
>> Yeah.
>> When he killed him, was grandpa trying to do something to him?
>> Uh, nah.
>> Was this just he had anger towards him or something? Okay.
Um, as far as how long have you been in the dorm like in?
>> Uh, for like a week.
>> For a week?
>> Yeah.
>> Okay.
>> Um, and have you talked to Isaiah about this? Has he told you this?
>> Uh, no. Well, I have I did ask him, "Were you in here?" He was like, "I killed my grandpa."
>> Okay.
>> And I was like, "Why?" And then he was like, "Oh, cuz he was raping me when I was a little kid."
>> Oh, grandpa.
>> Yeah. And that's Did anything else?
>> Uh, no, that's about it.
>> No.
>> After months of interviews, forensic testing, surveillance analysis, and evidence collection, investigators ultimately reached their conclusion about what they believed had happened to Richard Andrews, Isaiah Thomas was formally charged in connection with the murder. And according to detectives, some of the details later provided by the jail inmate allegedly matched findings contained within Richard Andrews autopsy report, including injuries involving a bladed weapon. For investigators, that detail carried significant weight because portions of the autopsy findings had never been publicly released, which meant if the inmate's account was accurate, the information may have come directly from Isaiah himself. And in the end, what started as a missing person's call inside a quiet Washington community slowly unraveled into one of the most disturbing family murder investigations the area had seen in years. A case where officers unknowingly encountered the alleged killer hours before the body was even discovered and where nearly every clue from the family suspicions to the forensic evidence to the statements made inside the jail eventually pointed investigators toward the same chilling conclusion.
