After severe storms, residents should avoid downed power lines and treat them as live, while understanding that trees with shallow root systems, such as ponderosa pines, are particularly vulnerable to falling during high winds.

Tracking damage left from Thursday night's stormAdded:
Let's get out to Brandon T. Jones now in the KREM 2 Stormtracker keeping a close eye on some of those side roads.
Brandon, where are you now and what are you seeing? Good morning.
>> Good morning, Tom. Well, we're just in one of those neighborhoods right off of 29th up on the South Hill. We were just speaking with one of the neighbors. We got some more damage here to show you.
So, let's go ahead and flip it around.
Actually, it's already flipped around. I thought I had it on me. Take a look at this right here in front of us. You see some power lines. Yes, sir. Hey, Wayne, we're on air right now, actually.
What What is it like? What has it been like seeing some of the damage around?
>> Well, uh a little worrisome because of the wires.
You see the >> Yeah, there's a power line, yep.
>> I don't know what kind of wires those are, but uh I'm avoiding them and I know that's what we're supposed to do.
>> Yes, sir.
>> Uh I don't know. I mean, I think we've been lucky for a very, very long time.
>> Yes, sir.
>> Um you know, we've lived in this house uh for something like uh 39 years.
>> Mhm, yep.
>> And uh we got all these humongous ponderosa pine trees >> Yes, sir.
>> that are towering and with shallow roots.
>> Yep.
>> And so, this I know this is what happens and >> Yeah.
>> we've been phenomenally lucky until now.
>> Yep. It's always one of those situations, right? Where you never really think it's going to necessarily be impacted. But, what a storm last night. Did you hear any of it?
>> Oh, yeah. I heard a lot of it.
>> Yes, sir.
>> And I was very worried, very concerned.
>> Yep.
>> Uh >> But, no damage to the home or anything, right?
>> Not that I know of. I I still need to uh kind of explore the property.
>> Yes, sir.
>> Uh I've been basically trying to clean up as much of the street >> Yep.
>> as I can. I assume the city will come and take care of the big stuff.
>> Yeah, the ones that are in the middle of the street or anything like that?
>> But, I've been cleaning up what I could.
Uh >> Well, you're doing great work. We >> know. I was oblivious to a lot of it >> Yes, sir.
>> because I was watching a movie I had wanted to see >> It's a surround sound going and everything. Well, Wayne, they >> biography of of Bob Dylan >> Oh, yeah.
>> called a called >> A complete unknown.
>> A complete [laughter] unknown.
>> That's what I'm talking about.
>> And I was absorbed in the movie.
>> Yes, sir.
>> So, you know, I'm a little late.
>> Well, Wayne, can I shake your hand real quick? I got We They're giving us the cue that >> It's probably a dirty >> That's all right. That's all right, Wayne. Well, well, they're giving us the cue. We got to toss it back to the studio. We appreciate you, you know, just taking some time to speak with us and, you know, thankfully everything was safe out here at the house, you know, as you continue to assess as well.
>> I know, the houses were okay. No people, as far as I know, were hurt in any way.
So, I guess overall, given that occasionally Mother Nature gets angry and aggressive, given that, uh I guess we came off all right.
>> Yes, sir. That's exactly right. Well, I'll give it a Well, we'll flip it back in here really quick. We do want to say thank you again, Wayne. We appreciate you. And yeah, we will keep driving around and checking out some of the storm damage we see around the region and we'll toss it back to you all in the studio.
>> Yeah, Brandon, man, getting those exclusive MOS. Love to see it. Well, though the storm is over, it is really important to stay safe, especially if you're out for a walk this morning and as crews begin to clean things up.
Remember, do not go near any down power lines and treat them as if they are live or energized. Report power outages as soon as possible. Avista says it might take some time to get that power back on.
