US-Iran Negotiations Need ‘More Time’: Qatar

[00:00:00]say is that we are fully supportive of the diplomatic track because we want to protect the people of the region from being you know basically the the the main losers of any escalation in in the region but but also we are supportive of the diplomatic effort by Pakistan that has shown seriousness in bringing the parties together and then finding a solution and we do believe that it needs more time but right now we are monitoring the situation we are in contact in contact with all our partners in the region and beyond to support this this mediation and of course we are always hopeful that this mediation would lead to the end of escalation in in the region but I don't think anybody right now can characterize that as being either pessimistic or optimistic about the result. The freedom of navigation in the form of is legally our right is the right of the state of Qatar and all countries that are living in or part of this region and therefore we have always stressed the importance of opening the straits and and not changing the status quo over there and for any procedures to to be introduced that go against international maritime law is something that we do not accept and nor should the international community accept as a new status quo in the region.
