Putin visits Xi as leaders celebrate ‘unprecedentedly’ strong relations

[00:00:00]Russian President Vladimir Putin met Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing with both leaders praising what Putin called an unprecedented partnership between their countries. Xi welcomed Putin at the Great Hall of the People and described China-Russia ties as a stabilizing force in a turbulent world while criticizing what he called unilateral bullying and the return of the law of the jungle in global politics. The meeting came just days after President Donald Trump's visit to Beijing placing Xi at the center of relations with both Washington and Moscow. During the visit, China and Russia signed more than 40 agreements covering trade, technology, media, and a renewed friendship treaty first signed in 2001. Energy and global conflicts were also key topics. Russia continues expanding oil exports to China as Western sanctions over the war in Ukraine deepen Moscow's reliance on Beijing. The leaders also called for diplomacy in the Middle East warning ongoing conflict could disrupt global energy markets and international trade.
