To Ottawa now, where Prime Minister Mark Carney has announced a new committee he hopes will provide input on Canada-US economic relations as Canada attempts to rebuild its trade relationship with the United States.
A few of those appointed to the committee are prominent indigenous leaders.
The committee includes current and former politicians as well as leaders of various industries. Among those 24 named to the committee is former Nunavut premier PJ Akeeagok who chose not to seek re-election in 2025.
Throughout last year, Akeeagok signed agreements with other provinces and territories to reduce interprovincial trade barriers to combat the trade war with the US. Also appointed to the committee is Tabitha Bull, president and CEO of the Canadian Council for Indigenous Business.
Bull has been called upon often to provide input for the government and has appeared before the Senate and House of Commons numerous times.
The committee will hold its first meeting Monday.
