[00:08:06]We have just concluded a meeting with the council of elders of the Luo community.

[00:08:16]The purpose of the meeting was and still is to consult and seek wisdom from the elders.

[00:08:30]The Luo community is a community that is respectful of elders.

[00:08:39]We always listen to our elders, and we have just met and listened to our elders.

[00:08:46]You have heard the resolution of our elders that it is their desire that this community unite and stay together.

[00:09:00]It is It is the desire and the resolution of that meeting that we stay together in our lovely and mighty party called the ODM party.

[00:09:15]Which is led by Dr. Oburu Oginga, chaired by Gladys Wanga among other national officials.

[00:09:27]We have also resolved and the elders have spoken about it that we will continue working together with other Kenyans who are in ODM and also others who are friends of ODM in the UDA party in a structured way with a view to working together towards 2027 in a structured way.

[00:10:00]In this discussion we have also received the support and advice of elders that on the 31st of May this month all the ODM members of this region if it is possible will be meeting at Kirembe grounds to show their love and support for ODM to celebrate ODM as their party and to resolve that we are working together people of this region working with other Kenyans from other regions as members of ODM and also engaging in meaningful and productive discussions and engagement under the leadership of Dr. Oburu Oginga as we match towards 2027.

[00:11:01]The second part of what we wish to say is we members of the organizing committee appointed by the ODM party to prepare for the meeting at Kirembe grounds on the 31st of May this year have been holding meetings here.

[00:11:27]Our membership comprise or comprises of myself or Chilwa Yakwa as the governor and chair.

[00:11:35]I'm the chair of the organizing committee. All members of parliament of uh Kisumu County or coming from Kisumu County representing us in national parliament.

[00:11:48]Uh all uh the the the party chair of this county, uh Bwana Seth Odhiang.

[00:11:57]And uh under the guidance of our national chair, Madam Gladys Wanga.

[00:12:05]We have we've been meeting here to plan for the rally at Kirembe. The rally is called Wabeero Kisumu Wabeero. It's an ODM rally, but we are all coming to Kisumu.

[00:12:18]We will be coming from Kisumu, from Migori, from Homa Bay, from Kisii, from Siaya, and all of us will converge in Kisumu.

[00:12:29]We want to promise that this rally will be a peaceful rally.

[00:12:36]It will be a productive rally.

[00:12:39]And it will be a rally that will show the beauty and the robustness of ODM as a party.

[00:12:49]We intend to have a peaceful assembly.

[00:12:53]We intend to have all of us be there, and that's why we picked on Kirembe grounds.

[00:13:00]Now, the rally will uh start for those who will be coming from uh across River Nyando, we'll assemble at a place that is called Katito.

[00:13:16]For those who will be coming from this side of the town, we will all meet at uh Kondele.

[00:13:23]And from those of us who will be coming from Siaya and beyond. We will meet at Homa Bay.

[00:13:32]We will reach Homa Bay Kirembe grounds at 12:00.

[00:13:39]We'll all be assembled there and it will be an interesting day.

[00:13:44]I want to state for those who may not know, ODM is the largest and the oldest party in Kenya.

[00:13:56]ODM intends to grow as a party to be even bigger than it is.

[00:14:02]The history of democracy of Kenya, the history of multipartyism in Kenya cannot be written without ODM occupying most of the chapters.

[00:14:15]We want to take this opportunity to invite all of us who have a time to come to Kirembe grounds.

[00:14:21]We will have uh national speakers, members of the ODM, our experts, national officials, and also all officials. All members of the county assembly of Migori, Homa Bay, Kisumu, and Siaya are expected to attend. Uh party officials will attend in a larger numbers. Members of Parliament will also attend in a larger numbers.

[00:14:46]Our agenda is that a united and structured ODM is good for the nation.

[00:14:54]An ODM that has the people at heart, an ODM that is robust in its management, it's good for democracy.

[00:15:07]Governance of a nation begins with governance of a party.

[00:15:12]Deliverables in a nation, deliverables by leaders uh starts with how the parties prepare for the elections, the agenda that they give to the people, the coalitions that they form among themselves. Those are the fundamentals of running a nation.

[00:15:29]I want to conclude that by saying that ODM is a party that is not driven by hate for any individual.

[00:15:39]We did not form ourselves into ODM to show dislike for any person.

[00:15:45]Any grouping or any people who are obsessed with hating an individual, be that person the president of Kenya, be that person a particular political formation, has no space or room in ODM.

[00:16:00]ODM will engage in dialogue, will engage in discussions with all like-minded political formations, starting with our current associates and partners, the UDA party under the broad-based arrangement.

[00:16:18]We intend to be peaceful.

[00:16:20]We intend to be celebratory, and we invite all of us. Allow me at this juncture to request our party chairman to say the rest. Karibu, Madam Chair.

[00:16:35]>> Thank you very much, Governor Ochilo. I think, ladies and gentlemen of the press, it's been made clear by Governor Ochilo, who's the chair of the organizing committee, our intention um to stage a massive uh rally at Kirembe Grounds on 31st of May.

[00:16:54]Our intention is to speak with our people.

[00:16:56]Our intention to is to hear from our people as well. Our intention is to engage vigorously with our grassroots as we continue to build the largest party south of Sahara and north of River Limpopo.

[00:17:11]Uh we intend to in earnest begin our preparations for the 2027 elections, not leaving our people behind, but carrying them along.

[00:17:20]We intend to update our people on the progress made within this broad-based government, particularly on the people-centered issues, the issues that matter to them. The issues that ODM has stood for uh for all these years.

[00:17:34]Issues around devolution, issues around the infrastructure uh in this region, issues around agriculture, and the things that matter to them, but also the some of the key issues in the 10-point agenda, including compensation, because this region uh has you know, born uh a lot of brunt of uh um post-election violence and chaos, and we will be updating our people also on the progress made on matters of compensation to this extent. It will be a carnival.

[00:18:07]It will be a happy day, and I'm asking our people wherever they are, our all national officials, all roads will be leading to Kirembe Grounds on that Sunday 31st. So, I'd like to ask all our people, all our party officials, to come to Kisumu, and that's why we say Kisumu wabeero. We will be coming to Kisumu. Kisumu wabeero.

[00:18:30]We will arrive by midday, and it will be a good day.

[00:18:33]I would like also like to say that we've put in place all the necessary arrangements to ensure that there'll be sufficient security uh for all our people uh on that day. Um So, we hope to have a very, very peaceful uh event, and that is um secure. So, karibuni wote Kisumu wabeero joturu wate wakwayoni mondo chop. [00:20:24]>> We want to really really take opportunity to pass our condolences um to the families, the parents the friends, the school community of Utumishi uh Academy in Nakuru for the loss that we've had this morning. It is indeed sad to lose such young girls, young lives uh in such a tragedy.

[00:20:47]Uh on behalf of the ODM party on behalf of the people of Homa Bay on the behalf of the people of Kisumu and this entire area, we say pole ni sana sana um to the parents and relatives and friends of those affected. We stand together as a nation during this time The rally on Saturday The rally on Sunday is an ODM rally. It is open to every ODM member. It is open to every ODM enthusiast. So, we hope to see everybody there as we move together as a party and as a community.

[00:22:26]The MP for Nyakach is in America in Seattle. He's out of the country. We have been with the MP for Maroni.

[00:22:34]We have been with the MP for Nyando who is believed and is at home.

[00:22:38]The county we have been here with the speaker of the county assembly. The county leadership is here. We were here the other day with the deputy governor of of Kisumu who was here on behalf of of the governor who has been in the US and is currently in South Africa. The entire assembly has been on this journey. Kisumu is fully represented and fully on board, but I'd like Dr. Ron to say something.

[00:23:06]>> [clears throat] >> Ladies and gentlemen of the press, let me also add my voice to what has been said here, but with regards to the leadership of Kisumu County not being seen at this press, this process is not a process that started today. This a process that has been going on. We've held several meetings in Nairobi with all the leadership across the Luo Nyanza.

[00:23:36]This is also happening at a time when majority of the elected leaders are concluding the budget. It is a budgeting period and some of us are presenting their budgets from their committees to the budget committee. So, it's not unusual that a time like now some of us are not here. But, the other thing that I wanted to say, the governor is well aware that we are here. He's out of the country in South Africa and he said he will be here with us from tomorrow going forward. So, the leadership is well, well represented and we are all here as it were.

[00:24:18]Secondly, I want also to take this opportunity to welcome everybody to Kisumu.

[00:24:23]To Kisumu Central, Kisumu West, where this activity is taking place.

[00:24:31]This is an ODM uh rally. It's an ODM affair and all ODM membership, all ODM lovers and all ODM enthusiasts are welcome to attend the rally. We are not inviting people by an invite letter.

[00:24:57]This is the information and everybody is welcome. My second point about the peace and security of Kisumu, Central Kisumu, West, the rally, Kisumu East, and the rally generally.

[00:25:16]We've gone through a process and looked at all the factors that everybody who is coming to the rally will be at peace. Everybody who is coming to the rally, their rights are protected. Their peace is guaranteed.

[00:25:34]And I want to encourage our people to come to this rally in large numbers.

[00:25:41]Whether you are coming on the back of a donkey, you are welcome.

[00:25:44]Whether you are riding on a bicycle, you are welcome. Whether you are walking on foot or on a on the back of a border border, a bus, a tractor, and you will see so many tractors bringing people as far as Migori coming to this rally. This is the rally. This is the bigger thing and we are going to have a serious conversation as a community. And the media, you are all welcome without leaving anybody behind. This is This is This is the thing for 2026 leading to 2027. Thank you.

[00:26:48]>> I think what the elders have repeated here is a resolution of the central committee of the ODM party um in January this year. Um when we had a central committee in Kilifi, the agreement was that uh we are going to we are we are expressing our intention to negotiate with uh our current partners in the broad-based government, the UDA party.

[00:27:13]No, to negotiate with like-minded parties starting with our current partners, the UDA party.

[00:27:19]If we do not agree, we will proceed to negotiate with others. The outline the the specs of those negotiations have not been outlined yet. So, I think uh uh what we have is uh we're going to have structured discussions. And when we agree, we will announce. Or when we don't agree, we will also announce. It's a bit uh premature to speak of that for now.

We are talking to our young membership, our middle-aged membership, both male and female, and our professionals. That's what we'll be doing tomorrow. Regarding the issue of the content and the details of negotiations that is being worked on.

[00:32:42]And I want to assure our followers that we have good negotiators.

[00:32:50]We have the party leader, we have our chair and other people who are not here today who will negotiate for the best interest of Kenyans. It is not just about individuals and seats, but it's about uh the ideals of our deals, issues that affect Kenyans. And I believe that the outcome of that negotiation will be good or the best that the best deal that Kenyans will have.
