In democratic political systems, party discipline and hierarchical structures play crucial roles in leadership transitions, where elected officials often defer to party high command decisions and prioritize party unity over personal political ambitions, as demonstrated by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's resignation and subsequent rejection of a Rajya Sabha seat offered by the Congress high command.

Siddaramaiah News | After Resignation, Siddaramaiah Says No To Rajya Sabha: What's NextAdded:
All my colleague Deepak is now joining me live on this. Deepak, you've been of course tracking this story very closely.
Uh sir Raaya as we speak he is on his way to Delhi. He's rejected that Rajya Sabha seat as well. What's next for Siddha right now as he meets the high command here.
>> Yes, we had in fact put out this piece of information that the chief minister has a plan to meet Mr. So Rahul Gandhi and we we are looking at that entire plan in motion at this point in time that emotional um you know press conference where he spoke in length about his illustrious career his contributions to the state his ideology what he's committed you know his entire political career towards all of that was summarized in that hour my colleague Ruo also was inside there now with us of course is senior congress leader in MLC Mr. Sali Mohammed firstly Eid Mubarak to you sir you know today so many developments have taken place probably you've not had time to celebrate you know with your family but here we are at the cusp of a change and end of an era really how do you really view you know the uh situation for the congress is it going to be smooth sailing for the next couple of years things to worry about and what are the things to look forward to >> no Kong is a party with discipline >> a Party leaders always takes reaction from the party high command.
>> Mr. Mr. Rama has been telling from the last 6 months.
>> Yeah. When media used to ask what's happening the change of guard he told one thing party high county taken a call when Rahul Gandhi G calls me kgage calls me and whatever direction they give I will follow >> nobody was ready to believe every day they used to ask no recently 48 hours early he made the party high command party high command had to given him some uh views >> and next just 48 hours today he resigned >> and uh whatever see man of uh commitment and integrity with Siddaya. See last three years the guarantees which are announced by him him and Dhuku Kumar >> that's was implemented 3 years whatever we said we promised and whatever he told in Delhi he has carried on.
>> So so if if if we consider things playing the playing out the way that the high command desired and things that were planned the way they should have been that means the current deputy chief minister Mr. Mr. DK Shukumar takes over as the chief minister but as soon as he comes into power there is a challenge that lies ahead and that's the challenge of Bengaluru the perennial problems of potholes uh clogged roads you know drainages not being cleaned and then what you know people struggling with the traffic jams so you have the GBA elections that's coming up sir so that's one of the issues I want to talk to you about but immediate concern is how are you going to form this cabinet ahead of the GBA elections you're going to need a new Bangalore development minister probably that the chief minister probably desires to keep that tell us a little about that. How is that strategy going to work?
>> First you ask me about the GBA.
>> Yeah.
>> See, GB was formed by Congress government.
>> Why? Because Bangalore becomes so grown, so vast.
>> Earlier population was around 50 60 challenge. But tell us about the challenge that you'll immediately face.
You have a new cabinet that's going to come and then you'll have to deal with this.
>> The problem is not just not come from last three years. Before that, BJP was in the government.
>> You can't problem to solve.
>> You cannot blame the Congress party. We are trying our level best. Why BJ GB has been formed? Because earlier it was 60 lakhs corporation now it's 1 cr 50 lakhs. So we wanted to divide corporation for the betterment of the people.
>> Okay.
>> And you take it from me in five corporations we are going to win the elections.
>> Okay.
>> Because people have knows that it is GB has been formed by the Congress government. It's our government.
>> If you want to do politics we are not divided.
>> We wanted the people should the problem should be attended immediately because there are only one commissioner one joint commissioner. Now five corporations >> confident that under the leadership of Mr. DK Shukumar you'll be able to triumph in the GB elections definitely the five corporations >> by August 10 the court also has said that we have to have election we are going to have the election >> you take it from me we going to win the elections >> tell me is the headache for the high command and the state leadership over or is it just starting because you have the cabinet that needs to be formed there are many people who are eyeing this position for several months now and we should note that there are senior leaders like yourselves who've not been able to get into that you know cabinet I see a smile on your face as I say this sir what are you aspiring to become >> see from last 6 months definitely we had met the party high command not only me of the leaders telling that party leadership >> see last 3 years it's been 3 years senior leaders have to be put into party work like kamrage plan >> where so some other 50% should be made as a ministers so that the experience of the ministers who have been in the government from last 3 years will be helpful the for the government to come back to power in 28 so 50% the old new faces who have not become ministers from last they have been elected three terms four terms they should be get the opportunity the high command is discussing but finally it is high command and the state leadership going to decide hopefully what we have requested high command going to work out in the future >> what Mr. Sidraaya wants in the cabinet.
Some say he wants his son to become the deputy chief minister, hold a plum portfolio. Uh what what you have do you have any information about this?
>> No, I have no information. I have not come across such kind of a demand by Mr. Sidra. Sidama is a senior. He's a senior leader. You know when he was offered Raj Sabha he told now in the press conference I have told him I want to work at the state level. I've been 2 years I've been MLA to fight out against fight he said I'll fight against forces fight against those people opposing constitution I'll be in the state politics I will strengthen the congress party and the government and definitely we are sure we are confident for next 20 this by this elections in 28 he's going to be the strong force in in the campaignation campaign also >> okay the last question to you uh before I let you go at this point in time can you at least tell us what Mr. Sidraaya's agenda is when he's flying to Delhi tonight or already on his way. I'm I'm told he's in all likelihood going to meet Mr. Rahul Gandhi. What's on his mind? What's that conversation going to be?
>> His agenda is to thank the party leadership Rahul Gandhi G Sonia Gandhi G Kesha to thank that you have made me twice opposition leader. You have made me eight years longest chief minister in Karnataka. He has broken all records. So he has given and after coming from JDS he has g party has given him a lot of strength lot of power to thank he has gone to Delhi not to ask for anything.
>> Okay thank you so much for speaking to us Mr. Sali Mhammed and wishing you the best and Eid Mubarak once again.
>> Well that was senior congress leader telling us that uh Mr. Sidra has gone to Delhi to thank the leadership says nothing really on his mind or demands that he's put forth. Ritu has also been with us. She's been covering uh the press conference of the chief minister.
Ritu the the action shifting to Delhi but it's soon going to come back here.
What are you picking up as far as the the deputy chief minister right now?
Deputy chief minister to be chief minister Mr. DK Shukumar where what is his you know location at the moment.
What's happening on that front? Uh >> I just learned that DK Shukumar apparently is at his residence itself.
I'm also learning that anytime we might be seeing him going to Ajaya Mud as well which has been very close to his heart when it when we talk about his personal life crisis or for that matter political career related crisis as well. We have always seen him visiting that mud. So yes all eyes on it now because further steps of DK Shukumar will largely depend on what's what will be uh you know be said to him during this interaction with the saint at the mud as well because we have largely seen him following what's been given to him as a direction forms from the saint itself. Uh so yes uh with that now all action in Bengaluru we will have to be looking at what DK shukum's further moves would be since the sidrama will remain to be now in Delhi now the kind of talks that he's going to have it with Rahul Gandhi as well so here's a lot more there now whole of picture you see according to me is when that the CLP would be called >> absolutely and you are very close to where Sidra Maya was when he was addressing that press conference he had that candid moment with the reporters like yourself who were inside he when he's in a good mood you know he has great camaraderie with everyone around him especially with the media today was an emotional moment. I'm sure you have seen him over the years. Tell us how those moments were when the chief minister was inside that press conference room ready to announce to the to the entire country that he's uh ready to step down. Uh >> I think Deepak will also agree to it.
You will also have your own personal memories with chief minister. I'll also have my own personal memories with chief minister. Similarly today, you see >> reminding our viewers Vu always says he's one of the cutest chief ministers.
>> Yeah, he's a pooky person is what I've always said you as well. uh so of course you see uh when the chief minister in fact finished his whole sidram when he finished his whole of uh press conference you see in the end he did not forget to thank the media the moment he said that you know to all the media persons you see the media all started talking back to him saying that you know we are basically also troubled you but he said it's all you know fine therein we have always been in the same on road sides that way to deal with it >> absolutely and of course uh it's an end end of an era here but a new uh dawn as Well, in for Karnataka Congress and the Karnataka state overall, we let's see how things pan out in the days
