Weather forecasting involves analyzing atmospheric patterns to predict temperature changes, precipitation, and weather conditions over time. Meteorologists observe how weather systems move and change, noting that significant seasonal transitions like the shift toward summer weather often require time to develop, with warmer conditions typically arriving gradually rather than immediately. Forecasters use satellite and radar data to track high-pressure systems and precipitation patterns, predicting when conditions will improve or deteriorate based on the movement of weather systems across regions.

WPRI 12 Weather Now 5/11/26 Sunny Nice TuesdayAdded:
For pinpoint weather 12 forecast, chief meteorologist [music] Tony Petrarca joins us now. Tony, we're 2 weeks away from Memorial Day, the unofficial start of summer, and we have some 70° temperatures.
>> We do. We're We're seeing signs of a of a big change in the weather pattern towards the weekend and through all of next week where we're finally going to get a string of of warmer days. Every now and then we'll get warm temperatures, but we can't really hold it for more than a day or two. So, for a good example, today, it's on the cool side, but otherwise it's not too bad out there. You're going to be out. I mean, what it's worth, they're surfing down in Narragansett Town Beach. You can see some of the surfers in the water right there. Look at Water temp is running in the low 50s. A lot of clouds, some thin spots, a little partial sun every now and then. It's in the upper 50s to low 60s in most areas. Now, 61 Providence, and Bedford's at 57, Taunton at 60. You got mid to upper 50s to still 60 down towards Misquamicut and Westerly. So, weather headlines, clouds will decrease this evening and overnight. It'll stay dry. You're going to be out now through the evening looking okay, though much cooler overnight. As we get closer to midnight and thereafter, it's going to drop into the 40s. Beautiful day tomorrow. Cool start, sunshine will get to work. Should get up to about 65. Next chance for precipitation Wednesday and Thursday, though I really don't see a lot of rain coverage on Wednesday other than maybe a passing shower. In fact, wouldn't surprise me if most of the the daytime is dry with just a passing shower. I think the better chance comes later Wednesday night, and especially into Thursday. Early call on the weekend looks good, not just the sunshine, but warming things up nicely. All right, satellite and radar composite showing rain offshore. That'll stay away. As we widen out the view, high pressure fair weather system will be building down from the Great Lakes. That'll promise some decent weather coming up for tomorrow. Our next system for later Wednesday night, but more so for Thursday into Friday is over the border in Canada. That'll come down and sort of stall on top of us Thursday and Friday, and that's when shower chances really start to increase. So, we're getting closer, and we'll walk you through the forecast. Let's watch the time bar right up in here. We'll take you to about 11:00 tonight. Clear, quite cool. It's already down in the upper 40s. Looks good for tomorrow. This is tomorrow morning at about 7:00 8:00 a.m.
Sunshine, upper 40s to around 50. So, cool start, but really a nice afternoon.
Just a few fair weather clouds. We'll get temperatures up uh low to mid 60s.
Just a smidge below average for this time of year, but outdoor activities for tomorrow go ahead. We move ahead now to Wednesday with mainly cloudy skies.
Maybe a couple of showers passing through. This is Wednesday morning. It all lifts to the north.
I feel as though during the afternoon hours on Wednesday, it's mainly dry, though mostly cloudy.
With the temperatures in the 60s. And again, that better chance for rain coming up later Wednesday night, and especially on Thursday. Oh, tomorrow morning, sunshine. Very cool start early at 7:00 a.m. By 11:00 in the morning, it's up to 60. Looks good tomorrow afternoon. Sunshine, fair weather clouds. We'll get temperatures up to around uh 64°. All right, 7-day forecast looking at rain likely on Thursday.
Still unsettled. I would keep the umbrella on standby for Friday with at least a few scattered showers, but getting back on track finally for the weekend. Sunshine, dry, warmable Saturday and Sunday. Both days, temperatures at least 70.
