This video examines a controversial statement by a Welsh nationalist suggesting they would prefer a mixed-race, mixed-religion Wales with more Welsh speakers over a predominantly white, Christian, secular Wales where the Welsh language has become extinct. The content creator, who supports the Welsh language and Welsh identity, argues this position is problematic because it prioritizes language preservation over traditional cultural and demographic identity. The video also discusses the economic challenges of Welsh independence, noting that Wales has only around 3 million people and would need to double its population to generate sufficient tax revenue for an independent government, potentially requiring significant immigration. The content highlights the ideological divide within Welsh nationalism between civic nationalism (emphasizing shared values and language) and ethnic nationalism (emphasizing traditional demographic composition).

🚨worrying times in wales….is this really what they think ?🚨Added:
Hello there people. How's it going? This is the Hillbilly Halfwit and we're doing a bit of a controversial one here today.
I saw this online yesterday and before you go any further, please press a button to subscribe and hype to help me get uh this info out there. I saw this online yesterday. Let me just put it up.
And this is from a Welsh nationalist and you see what you think about this.
So this is what ply Camry really think.
This is from Marshall Glory.
English nationalists will find this insane of me to say, but Welsh nationalists will understand.
I would rather, and it's not even close, be told in the future Wales will be mostly mixed race, mixed religion, but more Welsh speaking than it is now. Then Wales will be almost entirely white, entirely Christian, secular, but sadly the Welsh language will go extinct. The second one is unthinkable to me. If someone gave me the option of dying, but my language grows, I would take it. And that is not an extreme position to most Welsh nationalists.
Am I the only one that thinks that's absolutely insane?
It's incredible.
These people are brainwashed nutters.
These people are brainwashed nutters.
Um, so I just got into chat GBT and asked them what they think of this.
This is not an official poly camry thing, but it is somebody who's talks to a lot of them. So see what it says.
The screenshot is not an official plyomery statement. It appears to be a post by ex Twitter user called Marshall Glory expressing their own nationalist opinion. I can't verify from the screenshot alone who they're who they are or whether they have any formal applied cumry role. I couldn't find evidence they officially speak for the party. What they're basically saying is preserving the Welsh language matters more to them than preserving Wales as mainly white or mainly Christian secular country. They would accept huge demograph demographic and cultural change if the Welsh language survived and grew. They believe many Welsh nationalists feel the same.
That's a very emotionally driven cultural nationalist argument. Some people will strongly agree with it because they see language as the soul of their nation. Others, including plenty of Welsh people, will think it goes too far, especially the I'd rather die line, which is deliberately dramatic and provocative. But it's important not to jump from a nationalist person to this said jump from a nationalist person said online to this is what ply camry members think.
Political parties contain a huge range of views. Plyumbly officially supports the Welsh language promotion, Welsh identity, multiculturalism and civic nationalism rather than ethnic nationalism. I support the Welsh language and I support Welsh identity, but I support the current white workingclass Welsh identity, not something imported who will speak Punjabi or some other language.
At the same time, critics of plighted often argue there's a section of Welsh nationalism that focuses so heavily on language and identity that in it can come across as dismissive towards nonWelsh speakers or culturally traditional communities. Supporters would argue they're simply trying to stop a minority language disappearing. I think this is more than this.
So politically this sort of post is controversial because it touches three sensitive areas at once. Immigration, demograph demographics, religion and a culture and national identity. A fair reading is probably it reflects one strong nationalist opinion. It may resonate with some Welsh language activists, but it should not automatically be treated as official plyed Cumbry policy unless an actual plighted Cumbry representative publicly endorses it. If you look down there, the sources are ITVX and Facebook and a lot of something.
Now, this is something I ask then.
So this is what I'm worried about in Wales now because ply Camry want to leave the UK and rejoin the EU but there's not enough people living in Wales to pay for everything with taxes. So the only way to achieve this is to double the population. And I know this because I was actually talking with somebody the other day uh who knew a person who was working in the civil service for years.
So uh and there had been a study on this in the civil service back a good while ago that um was talking and uh investigating whether Wales could support itself if it left the UK.
And lots of the stuff that come out said it couldn't because there's not enough people living in Wales because there's only around 3 million people in there living in Wales. Just over 3 million.
And the conclusion is that basically you'd have to double the population to get any anything like the taxes needed to do anything.
These people are incredibly mental to wanting all this and you'd lose the Baret formula. So this is what I ask.
So they al they I mean implied also want independence from the UK. And I actually knew someone who worked in the civil service who read the paperwork about this in case it happened. And it said that there was not enough people in Wales to pay the taxes to run the country in reality. So Wales would need to double its population to achieve it.
So the above scenario which we mentioned before where they import masses of people is very plausible.
So this is from chat GPT. There's a real debate around whether an independent Wales could financially sustain itself without either higher taxes. Remember Ron now from Ply Camry as asking for higher taxing power, spending cuts, large economic growth or significant inward migration and investment. So the economic growth they're talking about can't happen because they're trying to be net zero by 2035 and they're actually doing the opposite to that. So the only way is inward migration and investment and the investment is from the wind turbines as far as I can see.
But it is important to separate the verified economic realities from political speculation or private conversations.
Wales currently receives more public funding per head than it raises in devolved tax revenue largely because the way the UK re redistributes money across the union. That doesn't automatically mean independence is impossible. Many smaller countries function perfectly well. But it does mean an independent Wales government would need a serious economic plan covering pensions, health care, defense, welfare, borrowing, currency, civil service expansion, and economic growth. And I actually heard Will Haywood talking that he wanted the civil service to double in size on one of his programs the other day. So that's what they want.
Supporters of independence argue Wales has natural resources, energy regeneration, water, tourism, universities, agriculture, ports, and untapped economic potential controlled by Westminster. Critics argue the tax base is too small, average wages are lower, Wales has an aging population, and the country currently depends heavily on UK fiscal transfers.
on the population points specifically.
Some economists and civil servants have discussed that stronger population growth could help Wales economically because more working age taxpayers generally means more revenue. So that's what's coming people. You know that and I know that that does not necessarily mean male Wales must double its population as an official government conclusion. I've never seen that presented as formal Welsh government policy or published requirement. But in summertime when the tourist season is, Wales has 6 million people in instead of 3 million people in. So that is what they want.
But it is true that many modern economies worry about shrinkage or age populations because fewer workers are supporting more retirees.
Where your screenshot does become politically explosive is that some people connect pro-independence politics, population growth, immigration and language policy and conclude that parts of Welsh nationalism prioritize preserving the Welsh language over preserving traditional Welsh cultural identity as they personally define it.
Others would strongly reject that framing and say Welsh identity is civic and cultural, not racial. That's really the core ideological divide underneath these arguments.
And before I go any further, as I said, I am pro- Welsh Welsh to the core. And I love my Welsh language, but I don't love the people that are saying this, that they would rather change our whole population to what it's been for thousands of years to a different color just because they want more Welsh speakers. I don't like that. I think that's horrific. And surely I can't be the only one that thinks that this is mad.
So, please comment, rate, and subscribe.
What do you lot think? Tell me down there. Okay.
Please hype and share. Tell her.
