Iran's control of the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz provides significant geopolitical leverage, which the country is using to negotiate the lifting of economic sanctions that have severely damaged its economy; Iran has not responded to the US proposal within the 48-hour deadline, preferring to delay its response to maximize benefits from ongoing tensions, while public sentiment reflects a desire for a fair deal with security guarantees against future attacks.

Iran Responds to US Proposal and Rising Tensions Over Hormuz Security | Mostafa Afzalzadeh | AsiaOneAdded:
We're now joined by our Asia one Tehran correspondent Mostafa Afzalzadeh live from Tehran. So, Mostafa, a Iranian military spokesperson said and said countries who follow US sanctions on Iran will have difficulty crossing Hormuz. Can you tell us more about this?
Uh Russian media have reported that Iran control the Strait of Hormuz uh gives a lot of power to Iran uh foreign policy uh magazine reported uh with this title that Iran is the four one of the four powerful countries in the world and also Guardian reported that Iran's control of Strait of Hormuz is more powerful than uh atomic bomb. So, Iran you is using this power to get what is what it needs and what one of the things that it needs is the lifting the sanctions because it has harmed a lot Iran's economy. So, uh Iran is using this power uh as much as it can to have a better economic situation.
So, Mostafa, what's the latest now on Iran's response to the US proposal?
Uh Iran Iranians have not responded to the American proposal uh there is a reas- there's two reasons for that. One is that Americans have said that Iran has to respond in 48 48 hours and Iran doesn't want to be dictated by the Americans. Uh they said they're going to review and when they come to a final conclusion, they're going to answer. But again, uh Iran sees uh this war uh if if this war continues, it's going to ruin the Americans' image inside and outside United States. In the recent poll by YouGov, uh been uh voters have 62% of voters have said that United States is not a winner uh in the in this war and only 13% have said that United States have won this war until now. So, Iran wants uh to delay the answering the proposal the most so it can benefit from the the ongoing war.
So, now, Mostafa, what is the sentiment in Iran, public and political sentiment?
Well, um people are under a lot of pressure, economic pressure. Uh as the war goes on, uh the state of instability is annoying people. Uh but again, uh the the people have honor and dignity in Iran, like many other countries in the world. So, they don't they don't want to uh they want to a fair deal and a guarantee that uh they're not afraid that, you know, every once in a while, there's going to be an attack on Iran.
