Electoral integrity is essential for democratic governance, as demonstrated by the Adamawa APC primary election where Ahmed Galadima won with 414,444 votes, but faced allegations of irregularities including absent electoral officials and exclusion of qualified candidates like Saliu Giri, highlighting the importance of transparent and fair internal party elections for maintaining public trust in democratic institutions.

Galadima Wins Adamawa APC Primary, Secures Over 400K VotesAdded:
Again, good evening. Walk us through how this massive margin was secured across the local government areas. Well, good evening, Charles. An interesting development, of course, but then the results have been announced.
Ahmed Galadima being announced as the winner by a landslide, 444,000 votes, as said by the returning officer, Professor Innocent. But but then again, of course, we started by observing the conduct of the primary elections across our different boards. We were located here in Yola, Adamawa Central, to observe some of these developments. Yes, definitely, there was a huge turnout of individuals who came out with hopes of exercising their franchise. Members of the All Progressives Congress expectation that the direct primaries, of course, I was going to lead to a much-needed victory for each and every candidate, of course, that was in the pool. Of course, we know that uh up until the eve of the elections, we continued to record individuals who were aspirants in the polls that actually pulled out uh stepped down. Some stepped down for individuals, others stepped down not stating categorically why, but then again, it is what it is. Up on this to this point, of course, there were concerns about some areas where voting, unfortunately, did not occur, not because there wasn't a presence of voters, but sadly because in some of these areas, electoral officials from the All Progressives Congress, as we observed, were not present. In fact, in some areas, it had to take some of these members of the party who were present at the location to carry out the head count by themselves just because they wanted their votes to count. But then again, the candidate has been announced, the winner has been announced, of course.
Right now, what we're taking is reaction from different of these individuals about the turnout and about, of course, the outcome of that post. Talk about reactions. I have with me uh right now Mr. Macolly Onohashi, who is the aid uh of one of the candidates in the election. Uh Saliu Girihi was actually standing to contest as an aspirant in the governorship election. His age now stays here uh to answer some of these questions. Mr. Macolly, good evening. Uh good evening, uh Mr. Giri. Yes, yes, indeed. So, first of all, uh results announced, what's your take on the announcement? Well, my principal Saliu Bakare Giri is flustered. He is livid with these shenanigans that took place.
Because uh everybody who is a decent observer of political uh events in Adamawa that that have been unfolding knows clearly that elections did not take place. Even at that, uh Bakare Giri was so disappointed with what would be considered as uh theatricals because uh they said elections took place and they just declared someone's name. Bakare Giri's name did not even feature amongst those that contested for the election.
And this is a gentleman who uh heeded the call of his people to purchase form when the forms were made available for sales to uh contestants. He he he know he went to Abuja, picked his form his his nomination and expression of interest form. And uh he was duly screened and cleared by the screening committee.
And uh there was no uh any iota of doubt that he was qualified because he was clean and he was given a clean bill of health to contest for the governorship election. Only for the committee that conducted the so-called shenanigans to come up with the election results and his name was completely omitted. Mr. Mr. Onohashi, now this is supposed to be strictly a party affair. This is not even the general election. Do you not think that um the All Progressives Congress seems to be washing its dirty linen in public, especially as it looks like uh across the different parts of the country, there so many um elements who are disgruntled as at this point.
Wouldn't you say that the party is washing its linen dirty linen in public?
You are very very correct. This is this portends danger for the so-called biggest party in Africa, not only in Nigeria, and it is the ruling party. You know, Nigerians are full of hopes that having seen the underdevelopment and you know, because of the despondency, widespread despondency by Nigerians, people thought this time around 2027 was going to produce people of vision, people of character.
People that really would take this country to the highest pedestal. But with these shenanigans that just you know, unfolded you know, you know, it portends danger for the ruling party and it portends danger for for democracy come 2027 because clearly there was you know, overwhelming evidence of lack of internal democracy in these shenanigans that took place. Finally, what's the next step for your principal and his camp? Well, my principal has called on everybody, supporters and party faithful to remain calm. He is a democrat and he has demonstrated leadership by remaining calm.
He's not talking about what we are doing at this moment is just to react to what has occurred. The undemocratic processes that just happened. But there >> Is there any likelihood of going to court? Well, we leave that to my principal. We're going to take a look at it and we're appealing to the national chairman of the party. Well, we are appealing to the president of the country, the democratic President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the entire leadership of the All Progressives Congress to do the needful. We are democrats but for the next line of action. Mr. Makinde Olusola, thank you so much for your contributions on the matter.
>> You're welcome. You're welcome. Well, Charles and of course our teeming viewers, that's the reaction. The reactions continue to come in and definitely definitely stay tuned to News Central as we'll be bringing much of these reactions following the conclusion of the primary election here in Adamawa, the Adamawa governorship election.
Charles, it's back to you, Charles.
Many thanks, Segun, for that reporting.
We truly appreciate.
