Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy has asserted exclusive control over the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz, declaring that all maritime operations require coordination with Iranian authorities, prohibiting military vessels from transit, and implementing transit charges framed as protection fees for ships, underwater cables, and infrastructure; this control has been demonstrated through incidents such as the March 11 attack on the Thai-flagged bulk carrier Mayuree Naree, which was struck by IRGC projectiles after allegedly ignoring warnings while transiting the strait.

Iran’s IRGC says vessels must coordinate passage through Hormuz StraitAdded:
and the straight of Hermuz it has emerged as one of the key pressure points in the war on Iran with its strategic shipping lanes increasingly entangled in the wider conflict to Dasadi reports from Iran's Keshum Island overlooking the waterway.
This is one of the most geostrategically significant and critical islands for Iran, the largest one and that is becoming even more important with respect to the situation at the Australos on which the Iranians are sending some clear messages constantly.
First, they're saying that the control and authority over this trade of Hormos is with the Iranians. And they're saying that right now all the maritime operations are being controlled by IRGC that the revolutionary guards, naval forces who came out the other day to talk about the extension of the scope of authority over the street. Also they're saying that any sort of transiting through the trajectory of this geostrategically significant choke point should be in coordination with the Iranian side. No military ships and vessels are allowed to transit according to IRGC and also now they're talking about uh transit charges and fees. Also they're referring it or framing it as a sort of uh protection uh price or the protection uh charges that Iran is planning to implement when it comes to straight foremost to safeguard the security of not only the ships and vessels. Now they're saying that but also the internet cables and other infrastructural facilities across the east of Hormos. The situation looks to be uh very much full of tension I would say as the diplomatic standoff between Tehran and Washington goes on. We hear the rhetoric of twosided message from the Iranian side while saying that diplomatic engagement is underway. Also they're saying that any aggression this is the latest that we had from IRGC saying that any aggression runs the risk of another round of escalation this time beyond the region. But speaking of the circumstances here and speaking of the control and authority over the straight, I can say that a lot of ships and vessels and oil tankers are blocked at the straight. And if Hamid can show us, this is one of them on my left that you can see. It happened on March 11th uh when the IRGC gave warning to this uh Thai registered bull carrier named uh Mayuri Nari which was hit by uh projectiles uh of IRGC while transiting through the Persian Gulf waters after departing uh from a port in UAE. Iran's revolutionary guards said they had uh struck the tie ship in a straight because they ignored warnings. We know that 20 sailors survived and went back to Thailand while three of them remained uh missing and IRGC came out in a statement in that regard. back in time to say that vessel struck. The whistle is struck by fire from the Iranian forces after ignoring warnings and alerts from the Navy of IRGC and unlawfully insisting on passing through the strait of Hormos.
