The plan involves constructing a 55 km canal that would channel water from the Mediterranean Sea into the Qatara depression, creating an enormous 20,000 km lake. But the benefits don't stop there. As the lakes's water evaporates, it could increase humidity in the surrounding areas, potentially bringing rainfall and making parts of the desert arable and suitable for agriculture and new communities.
