Modern trauma therapy prioritizes client safety and pacing over reliving traumatic details, as research shows that forcing clients to confront graphic memories can cause retraumatization; effective healing occurs when therapists follow the client's lead and avoid pushing them into territory they are not ready for.

Healing from trauma doesn't require reliving the past.Ajouté :
So, they really don't want to talk about this stuff. If they've been through something really terrible in their life, if they've witnessed violence, or they've been a victim to violence, or abuse, or neglect, or seen things, or done things, or had things done to them, chances are they've spent a lot of time getting that stuff from being right in the middle of their mind, right in the middle of their thoughts, from having the flashbacks and the memories all the time. But, they've worked really hard to try and get that stuff kind of shoved down. They don't want to talk about it.
They don't want to go in to the gory details. And just as an aside to that, just so that you know, so that you have this information, that new trauma therapy, so nuevo trauma therapy, it used to be we used to think that in therapy people had to really talk and relive their traumatic experience in order to heal from it, in order to get through it. But, that's just no longer true. Research actually shows that sometimes that can even make things worse. It can cause something called retraumatization. So, the person can get retraumatized by going into the gory details. So, most trauma therapists now know that you don't you don't have to get the patient or the client to go into the gory details in order for them to heal. And so, therapists just don't push it in the same way. They really wait and sort of work with the client and follow their lead and and make sure that things are not getting out of hand, that the client isn't going into territory that they're not ready for, or that they don't necessarily need in order to heal. But, a lot of people think that therapy means I'm going to have to expose this all and talk about it all, and I just don't want to go there.
