Results from Texas primary runoff electionAdded:
Bill and thank you of course for staying with us. We have a lot of news that we're following today and we want to get you updated on some of the other big stories today including those election results. We begin with a closely watched race around the country. The Republican primary for US Senate >> four time fourterm senator rather John Cornin and former Texas Attorney General Kent Paxton going head-to-head tonight.
Paxton gaining momentum after an endorsement from President Trump. And tonight, Paxton, the projected winner there with 64% of the vote and Cornin with 36%.
>> Paxton will face Democrat James Telerico in November. Here's what both Cornin and Paxton had to say tonight.
>> When everyone in Washington told him to abandon me and abandon the people of Texas, he didn't listen.
>> Instead, he gave his complete and total endorsement.
President Trump as a leader of our party and his endorsement in this most power is the most powerful force in politics >> and I'm honored to have his support and I look forward to working with him in the Senate to deliver for Texas.
I've spent most of my time in the Senate building the Republican party in Texas and in the in the US Senate and I've always supported the Republican ticket and I intend to do so again in this general election.
I've said throughout this race that I trust the voters of Texas and they've made their decision and I must respect it.
tonight.
>> Now to the results for the race for Texas Attorney General. Candidates for neither party were determined back in March. Congressman Chip Roy and Galveastston State Senator Maize Middleton were in a contentious race to replace Ken Paxton. Here are the results at this hour. Both the Associated Press and CBS News have called this race for Maize Middleton. I'm sorry that we have the wrong graphic up there. He uh again has been declared the winner. And tonight we're learning the Democratic nominee. There it is. Maize Middleton there with 55% of the vote and Congressman Chip Roy 45% of the vote. As for the Democratic nominee for Texas Attorney General, it was Dallas State Senator Nathan Johnson defeating former Galveastston Mayor Joe Geroski. And here are the results here with Johnson getting 60% of the vote. Gerardski there getting 40%. Tonight, Johnson saying, quote, "We have a lot of work to do.
Onward to November." end quote.
