21/07/2026 - Cool Overnight - Evening Weather Forecast UK– Met Office Weather

[00:00:00]Hi there. Only very subtle changes in the weather forecast during the next few days. The main one being a bit more cloud ahead of slightly more changeable weather this weekend. But if you're after rain, and if you're in one of the most rain-starved regions of the UK, don't get too excited because the most substantial rain this weekend will be towards the far northwest of the UK.

[00:00:21]Very little elsewhere. This shows how the rain will accumulate through the next few days. Wednesday, continuing to see some light showers in northern Scotland. Then Thursday, few more showers down the eastern side of England. But even here, not very much at all as you can see the light blue colors indicating very little rain even as it increases through the weekend. And by Saturday evening, this is the total amount of rainfall expected up to that point. And the darker blues tending to be confined to high parts of Wales, northern England, northwest Scotland, Northern Ireland with some parts of England seeing barely a drop yet again.

[00:00:56]So, yes, turning more changeable, but the main impact that will actually be a bit more cloud cover. We'll see some cloud coming overnight. Thicker cloud always for Northern Ireland, northern Scotland, some light showery rain here.

[00:01:07]And the old shower down the eastern side of England, but mostly it's just patchy cloud coming and going. Clear spells elsewhere. A warm night for many. Once again, temperatures into the mid-teens.

[00:01:16]Not quite as humid as uh earlier in the summer. Overnight, uh more comfortable, perhaps a fresher feel. And in sheltered spots with lighter winds and clear skies, temperatures will dip down into single figures. But we start Wednesday with plenty of dry and bright weather once again. Patchy cloud here and there. A bit more cloud floating its way southwards through the Midlands, Wales, southern England by the afternoon. Always the thickest cloud though, northern and eastern Scotland where there'll be some light showers at times. More persistent damp weather for northwest Scotland, 10 to 15 mm accumulating. Otherwise, uh trivial amounts as those light showers push into the east of Scotland and perhaps into northeast England by the end of the afternoon. The breeze from the northwest will keep things cool uh around exposed northwestern parts of the UK, high teens, but inland out of the breeze still managing to get into the mid-20s in places and up to 28 or 29 degrees Celsius for the hotter spots of central and southern England, somewhere to the west of London I suspect seeing the afternoon high at 28 or 29 degrees Celsius.

[00:02:20]Now we'll continue to see cloud affecting parts of northern Scotland into eastern Scotland and increasingly eastern England overnight with some light showers coming through. Again, trivial amounts for those areas where we do need it and patchy cloud elsewhere.

[00:02:34]So, not an entirely clear night either way. Temperatures will be very variable depending where you've got the cloud or the breeze. Some places staying in the mid-teens, others dipping into the single figures.

[00:02:44]We start off Thursday then with some rather a lot of cloud in the sky, but of no great use because it's not going to be producing a huge amount of rain. Once again, light showers developing a few showers perhaps over the Pennines and and then later in the day across central and southeastern parts of England, a few showers popping up. But again, trivial amounts and highly hit and miss. More frequent showers into the northwest of Scotland once again, a keen breeze here.

[00:03:10]This is ahead of a bit more of a change later on Thursday into the start of the weekend. We're going to see once again temperatures into the mid to high 20s where we see the best of the sunshine across central and southeastern parts of the UK. But you can see how this change starts to take place through Friday. A weather front once again pushing through, weak weather front and then the jet stream gets going a little more, but mostly it's to the north of the UK where that strongest wind at upper levels is.

[00:03:34]It's going to push through weather fronts, but those weather fronts are going to be arriving from the northwest.

[00:03:38]So, always delivering the wettest weather into Scotland and Northern Ireland through Saturday and into Sunday, becoming more fragmented, more showery as these fronts slip south. The outside chance of some heavier thunderstorms reaching the far southeast as we end the weekend, but otherwise rainfall amounts not of great use I think for those drier parts of the UK where rain is so desperately needed. And with a bit more cloud in the sky through the weekend with a cooler feel, well that's the going to be the most notable part of the weather forecast I think through the weekend into next week. It's going to be more changeable, but the more persistent rain will largely affect Scotland and Northern Ireland.
