Ladybugs are beneficial insects that protect gardens by eating up to 5,000 aphids in their lifetime, using their bright red colors as warning signals to predators and their defensive abilities like squirting stinky liquid or playing dead when threatened; they undergo complete metamorphosis from egg to caterpillar to chrysalis to adult, with different species displaying varying numbers of spots, and they huddle together during winter to survive cold temperatures.

Amazing Ladybug! 🐞 The Tiny Superhero That Saves Gardens! | Nature for Kids本站添加:
In a fresh green meadow, live little friends like red jewels. They're adorable ladybugs dotted with black spots.
Hustle, hustle. The ladybug scurries busily across the leaf with her short legs. She looks all around with her antennae searching for yummy food.
A ladybug's body is small and nice and round. It's hard outer wings are just like a little suit of armor that keeps its soft inner wings and body super safe.
Woosh! When it spreads its hard outer wings wide, its hidden see-through inner wings pop out. The ladybug can flap its wings super fast and zoom through the sky.
Ladybugs are little hunters. They eat the aphids that make plants sick. They can even gobble up hundreds of aphids in a single day.
Oh dear, how scary! When a bird or another animal tries to attack, a ladybug squirts out a stinky yellow liquid from its leg joints to protect itself.
There's another way, too. When they feel danger, they quickly tuck in their legs, drop to the ground, and pretend to be dead.
Mama ladybug lays her yellow eggs all snuggled together on the underside of a leaf. She chooses a cozy spot where her eggs can safely hatch.
The little caterpillar who hatched from the egg looks different from its mommy.
It has spiky bumps all over its body like tiny little thorns, and it's super busy munching on aphids.
When a caterpillar grows big, it attaches itself to a leaf and turns into a chrysalis.
Inside, it gets ready to change its body and transform into a wonderful grown-up.
When a ladybug first comes out of its pupa, it's yellow and has no spots.
As time goes on, its color slowly gets darker and then little black spots begin to appear.
Did you know that different kinds of ladybugs have different numbers of spots? There's the two-spot ladybug with just two spots and even the 28-spot ladybug with a whopping 28 spots.
When winter comes, the ladybugs nestle together in rock crevices or under fallen leaves to sleep. They share each other's warmth as they wait for spring.
A ladybug's pretty, bright colors are also warning colors telling predators, "I don't taste yummy."
Ladybugs are wonderful friends to farmers. That's because they eat up the naughty bugs so farmers don't have to use any special sprays.
A small, but brave and beautiful ladybug is truly such a precious friend. We couldn't possibly do without her in our garden, could we?
Take a closer look at the male rhinoceros beetle's grand, Y-shaped horn, his sturdy back shell, and how he sips tree sap all amidst mossy oak trees and a lush forest background.
I'm the forest's mighty, king-horned rhinoceros beetle. Which friend should I meet next?
