Inflation rises in April in U.S.

[00:00:01]On the money watch bad news for the cost of nearly everything as inflation is going up across the country. The personal consumption expenditures price index rose 0.4% in April to reach 3.8%.

[00:00:13]It's highest rate in almost 3 years.

[00:00:15]That was fueled largely by the oil price shock caused by the war in Iran. If you strip away food and gas, the rate is 3.3%.

[00:00:23]Consumer spending tapered off a bit seeing a rise of just a half a percent versus a full percent the previous month. Now taking a look at the stock market, things are up but marginally just under 20 points here in the midday.

[00:00:36]This was the first inflation report by the way since Kevin Warsh took over as Federal Reserve chairman. Some economists say there could be a rate hike later this year. The Fed's next meeting is June the 16th.
