This analysis effectively strips away the romanticized veneer of "whirlwind" relationships to expose the lethal mechanics of domestic control. It serves as a sobering reminder that recognizing early behavioral red flags is a matter of survival, not just intuition.

In Just 4 Months, Her Fairytale Turned Into Her Funeral: The Anggy Diaz Story
Added:What would you do if you came home at 4 in the morning and your wife asked for a divorce? Would you sit down and have a normal conversation about it? Argue.
Well, I can almost guarantee you nobody would have been able to predict what happened to Angie Diaz when she asked her husband for a divorce. This is truly one of the most disturbing true crime cases that I have ever come across.
We're talking about a girl who literally crossed the ocean chasing her dreams.
Now, this is a marriage that on the outside looked so normal. Fairy tale, like less than four months into their marriage. The same fairy tale took a turn that nobody could have ever anticipated. Hi everyone, it's Michelle.
Welcome to Betrayal Files. This is where we're going to be uncovering some of the most chilling, confusing, and honestly heartbreaking true crime cases there are out there. Thank you so much for all the love on my first video about Lacy Peterson. And if you haven't watched it, you can click here. The case we're covering today is very, very dark and twisted. I'm not going to lie, it has stayed with me and traumatized me. Like, I cannot stop thinking about it. So, Angelica Daniela Diaz was born on October 23rd of 2001 in Nicaragua. She was the eldest of four siblings. And from the beginning, she had a very sweet, vibrant personality. Everyone absolutely loved her. She brought joy to everyone around her. and she just had this incredible energy. Her mother, Danny, was a single mom and she was working herself to the bone to give her kids a bright future. And because there were few working opportunities in Nicaragua, Dany ended up traveling to Costa Rica for months at a time to earn money and then she would come back home for a few months and then do it all over again. While Dany was away, Angie and her siblings were essentially raised by their aunt. So, their aunt was a second mother to them. They absolutely loved this woman. She raised them and loved the children like her own. Like they even called her mama. They were super close. Angie was somebody who was described as fun, positive, warm, and just and just a genuinely kind person who would have a great influence on everyone that she met. Angie was really ambitious. Not only was she trying to take care of herself, but her siblings, her aunt, her mom. She just wanted to work very hard. And in 2019, Danny made the decision to move Angie and her siblings to America to try and earn more money and hoping that this would give the family a better life. And it did for a while. And then Angie's aunt, who essentially was the woman who raised her, was diagnosed with cancer. And this was very, very hard for Angie's family.
And she ended up working jobs in the States so that she could send money back to her aunt in Nicaragua. And it's just so sad to hear what happens next. So Angie was working two jobs. One was a cashier and another one was at Chef's Meat Market, which was a small butcher shop in Houston, Texas. And again, she wasn't just working to get herself by.
She was helping her family and and sending money to her aunt for treatment.
She also became a certified fitness coach at this time, and she was really starting to build a beautiful life for herself. Then one day at the meat market where she worked, she met a boy named Jared, and that changed everything. And at the time it felt like everything was falling into place, like a fairy tale ending. But ultimately, that's not what happened. So Jared Dykus was born in 2001 in Houston, Texas, but he didn't grow up in the city. He grew up in a town called Waller County, which was a very small town vibe. Everyone knew each other, tight-knit community, so on and so forth. Her his family appeared to be super normal on the outside. Like the kids went to school, he went to high school, he participated in sports. He was a normal kid. But his home life really was not as simple as it looked from the outside. His older brother, Wayne, had a history of drugs, especially meth, and was really struggling and had multiple run-ins with law enforcement. And so, the family was really going through a difficult time as well. So, what's interesting here is Jared went in the complete opposite direction. Like, he didn't want to be anything like his brother. So, he became an electrician. He worked. He stayed consistent. He got good grades. And from the outside, he looked like a good guy, like a regular dude. But even with all of that and wanting to be so different from his brother, him and his brother never distanced themselves from each other. Like they were still very, very close. But Jared and Jared and Wayne's parents obviously really did not support Wayne's drug use. In fact, he even ended up calling the cops on his brother once.
Like Wayne stole a copper wire from Jared, which he wanted to sell for drug money. And Jared ended up calling the police on his own brother, which again sounds kind of harsh, but like when you have to deal with like an addict in the family, it is obviously a lot more complex than maybe you would think if you have never experienced it. So then Jared meets Angie at her work and from the outside it looked like one of those instant connections like everything moved very very quickly with them. Jared also just had this very classic Texas energy like he was a football player, confident, grounded and Angie had obviously been through a lot in her life and with everything that was going on with her. This guy felt safe. He felt normal and he felt safe to her. They were posting each other all over social media with romantic captions talking about how they were so in love. They were definitely one of those couples that were posting about being like obsessed with each other 24/7. But less than a year after meeting that ended up changing on October 22nd of 2022. Things took a serious turn because this was the day before Angie's 21st birthday and they decided to get married. Most of Angie's family didn't even know she was getting married. They just went down to the Waller County courthouse and got married in front of a judge. And it was no big ceremony, no family gathering, just them and Angie's uncle who was the witness. The judge even said later that they seemed like a really nice, normal couple and nothing seemed off in that moment. And the next day on Angie's 21st birthday, they made their marriage Facebook official and posted on social media about them getting married. And you know, their family thought that this was weird that they didn't know ahead of time that their kids were getting married. But at the end of the day, they were happy and they wanted to be together. But it was all happening pretty fast. And not long before Jared, Angie had been in another relationship with someone named Jose who from what her friends said, she was taking so seriously. Like they were going to get married. Like she loved this guy. And so her friends and family are all like, "Wait, you were planning a future with this one person and now you're just completely married to somebody else.
Like what's happening?" It's kind of all seems a little fast. So, there was a push for this marriage to happen really quick because about 6 months before the wedding, there was a car accident where Angie ended up facing the possibility of deportation. She was undocumented and something whether or not it was an accident or a rapport of any kind obviously can put her status at risk.
And right around then, that was also when Jared started talking about marriage. And so, again, a lot of people think that's why they got married, but it's not really. No one can know for certain. Jared seemed like the perfect husband. Okay. He would show up to her work with flowers and big gifts and they were super affectionate with each other.
He was always calling her beautiful.
They were always posting each other and they were always together. But things started to take a dark turn after their wedding. So Angie's co-workers at her job at Chef's Meat Market noticed that Angie's demeanor kind of changed. Like her energy just shifted. She looked very tired, exhausted, and irritated all the time. And again, it didn't sound like a big deal at first. And they tried not to make a big deal out of it. But Angie was known for being energetic and positive and always moving, doing something. And it concerned the people around her to see her be so drained. Angie ended up confiding in one of her managers. And she told her that after the wedding, things started to take a turn. Jared completely changed. She became more jealous, especially when it came to her friends. And most of Angie's friends spoke Spanish. So whenever they were together with Angie's friends, they would be speaking Spanish. And Jared wouldn't know what was happening. and he would get angry at them, which is ridiculous. And Angie and her friends really tried hard to include him. Like, she tried to translate for him, but it didn't matter. Nothing really helped. He felt left out, and he just like was just kind of a loner and you could read it all over his face. You knew he was irritated, which is obviously just [ __ ] up. Jared then began showing up at Chef's Meet more often and not like casually to drop in and say, "Hey," to Angie or give her flowers. It seemed like he was really checking on her, like watching her. And around that same time in November of 2022, Jared had what could only be described as an outburst.
And he was arrested for being violent with the staff and also for driving while intoxicated. And when the police took him in, he was threatening the police officers. He was just absolutely losing his mind. This was when Jared's family really started to get concerned because this was not the Jared they knew. Drugs had never been a part of Jared's story, but apparently his drinking had gotten a lot worse, and he became more unpredictable, aggressive, and at this point, people started to ask questions like what was happening at home between Angie and Jared. So, on January 8th of 2023, 3 months into their marriage, Jared calls 911. And it's really, you guys just have to listen to how strange this call is. He starts by saying his name and then he almost immediately says he did some drugs and then he takes it back and says he doesn't know why he called but he needs an ambulance anyway. It is obviously just very strange like behavior. He's clearly on something. So the paramedics ended up being sent out and when they arrived they found Jared who had been using meth which is again a huge turning point in the story because up until now that was never something he participated in. Obviously, his brother had struggles with this, but this was especially devastating for his parents because Jared seemed like the stable one, like the reliable one that they knew was going to have like this great life, and clearly that's not what ended up happening. So, he was in the hospital.
His parents ended up meeting him there.
And his father, Rodney, actually could immediately tell something was off with his son. He just felt that he was scared of him and for him. He begged the hospital to keep Jared there. He said, "Something is wrong with him. He needs like a psych evaluation." but ultimately he was fine. So they ended up releasing him and that decision would haunt Rodney forever. So on January 10th of 2023, it's a Tuesday around 1:30 in the afternoon and Angie walks into Chef's Meat Market for her shift. Her colleagues can see it on her face. She hasn't slept at all. She looks super exhausted and drained. And her boss, Veronica, pulls her aside and finally asks her what's happening. And that's when she saw a bruise on Angie's shoulder. And this was when Angie broke down crying. She said that she was done.
She was going to leave Jared, saying things like, "She never wants to get married again." This was obviously difficult for anyone, but for someone who was so optimistic towards life and always smiling in the toughest situations and rushed into like marriage thinking it was love and exciting, to be sitting here realizing that you made such a huge mistake and the person you married is not at all who you thought they were is just so heartbreaking. So, what happened was Jared was angry at Angie because she spent the day with her aunt. What a loser. Obviously, but that's it. And that night, he didn't let her sleep. And while she was in the shower, he ended up assaulting her. And obviously, that's just so heartbreaking.
Like, how of course could you do this to your wife? But over her wanting to spend time with her aunt, like, it is just so absurd. And he apologized saying it was just anger and that it would never happen again. And obviously, we hear that in situations like this over and over again. And at this point, Veronica is already alarmed, but then Angie ends up showing her more. There were big bruises that she had, like deep purple bruises. And Veronica was like, "This is not okay. You need help." But Angie didn't feel like she could go back to her mom or her siblings because she got married without telling them. So now asking for help felt like a bit complicated and she felt like she had to fix this on her own. So Veronica told her that she would meet her at a coffee shop on Friday, January 13th, and they would just talk everything through and figure out what Angie should do next in regards to leaving Jared. But unfortunately, Angie never made it to that coffee shop. So, this part might be really hard for a lot of you guys to hear, but everything I'm about to say comes from Jared's confession, the evidence, and what investigators were able to piece together afterwards. But Jared ended up coming home at around 4:00 in the morning and Angie was awake.
She starts to yell at him and asks for a divorce. And at some point during the argument, she turns on the TV. And according to Jared, that's when something happened to him. He claims he started hearing demonic voices or demonic voices coming from the television telling him what to do. And what he does next, it is just so horrible. But Angie had a knife in her hand to protect herself from Jared. And it was a kitchen knife. And Jared ended up attacking Angie, stabbing her multiple times in the back, and decapitated her while she was still alive. That's like the most gruesome, horrible thing that I've ever heard. I cannot imagine somebody doing that to someone that they supposedly love, their wife. That's It's just so heartbreaking that Angie, who had such a lovely, bright spirit, had such a horrible, tragic ending. Jared left Angie's body next to the bed and took her head and put it in the bathtub next to a bunch of shampoo bottles. Just placed it there.
And then he took a shower with her head still in the bathtub, which is so dark and disgusting. Like, what a [ __ ] freak. I can't. Even the first responders were genuinely horrified by this crime scene and they see stuff like this every single day. But this was a whole another level of disturbing and just twisted.
>> She was just decapitated. Got this dab wounds to her back. Her head's in the bathtub.
>> About 8 hours later, at around 12:43 p.m., Jared ends up driving to Chef's Meat Market, which was Angie's workplace, and he walks inside, grabs a beer, doesn't pay for it, and just casually walks out. He starts drinking it in the parking lot. And so this guy who literally hours before just killed his wife, brutally murdered her, goes to her place of work, grabs a beer, and drinks it and steals it. Like, what [ __ ] psycho does that? That's insane.
Around 1:30 p.m., Jared walked into his parents' house, and immediately they felt something off about him. He was acting strange and they heard a phone ringing that wasn't his like ringtone.
They were like, "Whose phone is that?"
So, his mom, Lynn, asked multiple times and he was just like, "Oh, I have multiple phones." Which what are you what are you doing? Why would you have multiple phones? No. And uh she doesn't believe him. She snatches the phone from her hand and she can see that it's in Spanish and that it's Angie's phone. In that moment, they knew something terrible must have happened. So, they run over to Angie and Jared's cabin and are immediately obviously devastated with what they saw. Rodney, Jared's father, ends up calling 911. And you can hear he doesn't even fully know what to say. It is I can't It's just so horrific. I can't imagine finding that.
And knowing that your son did that. I like there's I don't even know.
>> Yes, ma'am. My name is Rodney Dis. I need an ambulance and police socalled Boulevard. Please.
>> Okay. What's going on?
>> I don't know everything, but my son's wife is dead. Please.
>> Okay.
>> Please. talk to me on the phone.
>> Okay. Are you Okay. Are you on location right now?
>> Yes, ma'am.
>> Yes, ma'am. I am.
>> Oh my god.
>> Okay.
>> I'm here.
>> Where is he at?
>> He's in my house.
>> Okay. This is your house.
>> He's in their house. They they they have they have a building on my property.
>> Oh my god. Please send somebody.
>> There's something wrong with my son.
Please hurry. So Jared was immediately detained in a vehicle. Her parents were trying to assist the officers.
Obviously, they were also trying to hold themselves together while like processing what their son just did. But of course, they were cooperating with officers in any way that they could. And he has been acting really strange lately.
>> Without wasting any time, the police arrested Jared and brought him in for questioning. His hands were in paper bags to preserve evidence, which is just a bizarre thing to see. But the behavior that Jared was showing in the interrogation room was so offputting. He was doing like random exercises or just like sleeping in like the fetal position. Like he looked like he was going insane. Also, at one point he tried to deny the crime. Like he was like, "I didn't do it." And he literally laughed in the investigator's face like trying to pretend like he didn't do it because it was obvious that he did do it. And literally the evidence was all there. He was there.
>> I just lost my way. I lost my way with God. Look, I I didn't do it.
>> I think you can't you can't even keep it straight for anybody.
>> So, how did you kill her? Tell us how you killed her.
I >> I don't know because it wasn't it wasn't it wasn't Jeremy.
>> Did you cut her head off while she was still alive?
>> Yeah.
>> But it was just so sick and twisted.
They kept asking her like, "How did you kill her? What happened? Why did you do this?" And he kept just saying it wasn't Jared. It wasn't Jared. Like that wasn't me. It was like the demons and demons took over me, whatever. Which is obviously really messed up. A lot of people like to claim insanity when they commit crimes like this. But obviously, it did seem like something with Jared was insanely off. And that's kind of like the question that everyone had.
Like, is he on drugs? Was he having some kind of mental break? Like, what the hell happened? His behavior was just not making any sense compared to how he has been his whole life. So Jared's system ended up only having cocaine and marijuana in it. So he was not using meth. And according to Jared himself, not that he's much of a reliable source, he had only been using meth for the less than 2 weeks. And like this was his first time ever doing that. Court ended up ordering an evaluation to see if he was competent enough to stand a trial.
And it turned out he was. And on July 31st of 2024, more than 18 months after the murder, Jared Dykus plead guilty.
And in August of 2024, he was sentenced to 40 years in prison without the eligibility of parole. In January of 2026, Jared Dykus was found dead in his prison cell. He appeared to have taken his own life. He was found hanging. We don't know exactly what the situation really was, but obviously we can assume he served less than 2 years of his sentence. And I just think this is the one of the most heartbreaking true crime cases that I have ever heard. I feel so horrible for Angie's family and friends.
I can't even I don't even know how they begin to process. Especially her coworker that like knew that something was happening and was supposed to help her get out of that situation. Like I can just imagine how horrible she must feel. And it's just heartbreaking. And I also think him only serving two years of his sentence and then taking his life, like it just is frustrating because because we saw what Angie went through and what was taken from her and it just feels like it just kind of feels like justice wasn't fully served and that is really upsetting. So Danny, who had just lost her daughter in one of the most horrific ways possible, um was interviewed and what she said kind of shocked me. So, she was asked if she held any grudges against Jared's parents, and she said no because she said that even though she has two sons herself, if either one of them were to make a decision to do something terrible like that, like it's at the end of the day their decision, which I understand, but I do feel like I don't know, like it's hard cuz I don't think like the parents should necessarily be held responsible, but maybe there was something deeper here going on. It just doesn't seem likely that he just randomly broke one day and became a murderer, like a vicious, disgusting murderer. Like, I don't know. But that's just my opinion. I guess anything could happen. Um, but I do think that the parents feel so horrible obviously in this situation, especially the father because he was like crying and saying like I told the hospital they needed to keep him and give give him a psych evaluation. Like he needed help. And ultimately, I'm sure they feel partly responsible for this, but I understand why Angie's mom does not hold any grudges against the parents because ultimately, how could they have ever predicted such a horrific thing that their kid would do? But that is the case of Angie Diaz. Angie deserves so much better than what this world gave to her and to her family and her aunts. I feel so sorry for I I could not imagine such a horrific thing happening to someone who was so kind and sweet and that you loved. Um, I feel awful for her friends and family. It It honestly is one of the scariest and saddest true crime cases that I have ever heard. If you have thoughts on this case, drop them in the comments below. I really do like to read through all of them and I want to know what you guys think. And what other cases do you want me to cover on this channel? Let me know. But as always, I will see you in the next one. Bye.
