Redistricting is the process of redrawing voting boundaries after population changes, which can be used strategically to dilute minority voting power; Tennessee became the first state to eliminate its only majority black congressional district following the Supreme Court's Coley v. Landry decision, which weakened Voting Rights Act protections and allowed states to redraw districts to exclude minority voters, raising concerns about fairness in democratic representation.

BLACK WOMEN ARE THE MOST POWERFUL PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY, AND OUR GOVERNMENT KNOWS THAT, WHICH IS WHY THEY'RE DOING EVERYTHING they can to suppress their power. Tennessee became the first state to get rid of its majority black district, and I need Latinos to clock in because not only are they getting rid of black votes, they're also getting rid of your vote. These maps are racist tools of white supremacy at the behest of the most powerful white supremacists in the United States of America, Donald J.
Trump. That was Tennessee State Rep.
Justin Pearson talking about Republicans carving up Tennessee's last black district. Listen to his words carefully.
Hi lovelies, welcome back to my channel.
If you're new here, my name is Belinda Strachan. Thank you so much for all the love and support. To my returning subscribers, to those people that share my videos, give commentaries, and also educate each and every one of us, you guys are the real MVP.
>> Lovelies, I came across this juicy summary for you, and I thought I'd share how people are reacting in the food debate made after, you know, Tennessee's redistricting 15 decisions sparked nationwide reaction. So, people are asking questions floating with opinions, arguments, and confused as people trying to understand what the new voting map could mean for representation, political power. While some see it as a standard political process, others believe it raised a deeper question about fairness in election. And now the conversation is playing first across every social media, lovelies. I'm just going to roll the clip. Please give me your Tennessee Republicans just successfully eliminated the only the only majority black district in the state. Here's the moment it happened. Total chaos ensued.
Leader Lambert Mr. Clark Mr. Speaker, I yield the I yield the remainder of my time. Mr. Lambert yields the rest of his time.
We're voting.
We are voting on the bill. All those in favor of House Bill 7003 as amended, vote aye when the bell rings. Those opposed vote no.
Has every member voted? Does any member wish to change their vote?
Mr. Clark, PLEASE TAKE THE VOTE.
YEAH.
564 25 NAYS, three present not voting.
House Bill 707,003 having received a constitutional majority, I hereby declare it passed without objection. The motion to reconsider is tabled.
Leader Lambert, you're recognized.
This is a direct result of the Supreme Court ruling that basically gave all of these Republican states the green light to get rid of these majority black districts and make their districts however they want while excluding black voters and diluting their voices.
Unfortunately, this will be the new norm, y'all. Like the red states are racing to do this. Louisiana is trying to do it. Florida just did it. It is going to continue around the South. Our only hope is that Democrats continue to match the energy and do it in blue states as well.
It's a little ironic that the woman now who is likely going to win the ninth district in Tennessee is a black Republican woman as a result of this redistricting It's likely going to be black Republican women who beats that old white man. Can I make this very simple point?
>> what I'm saying. Yeah, it is. Well, we're going to come back to that. It actually is. Gerrymandering has been going on for hundreds of years. This is not new. Both parties do it. But what is most hypocritical is seeing Democrats melt down on the congressional floor in Tennessee burning Confederate flags, blowing bullhorns, screaming through the chambers, yelling racism, standing on top of tables, arguing with police officers, going out and scaring their constituents telling them they're losing their rights to vote. You know, I've seen black people online just being completely dejected, stressed, outraged, you know, you know, doing collages of civil rights era footage with sad music saying they're taking us back. A lot of times these politicians who happen to be black, they just say all of them. They enrich themselves and they just go out and use what, you know, public outrage to move their agendas forward. A lot of us who have grown up in inner cities across this country know that those cities are always ran by Democrats, predominantly black Democrats. And as she just rightfully said on CNN, the woman who is now going to be representing this district, she is black. So, you can't scream racism.
You have black representation. It's just not the black representation that you want. You want it to be a black Democrat. So, then say Democrat representation. Don't keep saying black representation because no one has ever showed up when Republicans in blue cities are completely eradicated from having representation. No one has ever shown up to black people in Republican or conservative or or moderate or independent constituents and said, "You know what?
These maps are unfair. We have to make sure everyone's represented." You see represented. You see what happened in Virginia where it was like the fairest map that we have in this country.
Democrats were bragging and happy about gerrymandering that map to the point where it went from almost half and half down to 10 to 1, completely disenfranchising half of Virginia.
And so, but that just got struck down by the Supreme Court. But when it happens in Tennessee, you get this whole theater. You look at Memphis within the black community, 80% votes Democrat, 20% Republican. That's not including Republicans from other groups that actually vote within the city. 21% Only 21% of the students in that city are proficient in reading and math. 24% poverty rate, which is 44% higher than the state average. The crime is always through the roof. They haven't had a Republican mayor in Memphis since 1955.
They haven't had a Republican representative in that district since 1975. So, what are Memphis residents actually getting out of this by continuously just like only wanting to vote for one party where there's no need to compete. Even if this black woman who's a Republican come that came in there and did a phenomenal job, they'd just say she hates her people, she hates herself, and they'll just disregard her.
And that's unfortunate.
Tennessee became the first state to get rid of its majority black district, and I need Latinos to clock in because not only are they getting rid of black votes, they're also getting rid of your vote. Representative Justin Jones put it perfectly with this image. This is a white supremacist move to disenfranchise black and brown people. After the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act by saying Louisiana's second newly formed black district was unconstitutional, several states are moving to try and get rid of their majority black district. And I believe the phrasing getting rid of majority black districts is being used on purpose by Republicans so Latinos, who have shifted heavily to the right, don't realize that they're also coming for their vote. Because as much as Latinos moved to the right in 2024 saying that it was because of the economy, we have to be honest, it also had a lot to do with anti-blackness. A lot of Latinos put their hopes and dreams stupidly on Donald Trump. But now that they've seen that Donald Trump is a liar and a swindler who is hurting our community, they're souring on Donald Trump. So, Republicans aren't just moving to redistrict these maps before the midterms to dilute black votes, they're doing it also just in case Latinos stop voting Republican. So, the Latino vote helped Republicans get into power, but now they've changed the rules to make sure that the Latino vote does not get Republicans out of power. That's what I've always been warning Latinos about. They're using your anti-blackness to go after the black community, but in reality, they're taking away all the progress that the black community has made that we have all benefited from.
And a lot of Latinos are still not being vocal about what's happening with these redistricting efforts because they still believe that this is just a black issue.
No, this is a problem for all of us now.
However, even with these redistricting efforts, remember, there are still 36 million Latinos who can vote in the US.
And just in case you didn't know, even if you're registered as a Republican in the general election, you do not have to vote Republican. So, if Latinos can step up and stop believing these white supremacists' lies and actually unite with other communities of color, even with these redistricting efforts, we might still have a chance to win and put a stop to these white supremacists' efforts. Please share this story because while Latinos and other people from marginalized communities who moved to the right and voted for Trump caused this to happen, there is still a chance for us to come together and stop it.
This is still very much a developing story, so I'll bring you information as it comes in. And remember to follow for more.
BLACK WOMEN ARE THE MOST BLACK WOMEN ARE THE MOST POWERFUL PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY, AND OUR GOVERNMENT KNOWS THAT, which is why they're doing everything they can to suppress THEIR POWER. BLACK WOMEN ARE THE MOST RELIABLE voting demographics for Democrats. The reason why so many Democrats HAVE THEIR [ __ ] SEAT RIGHT NOW IS BECAUSE BLACK WOMEN ORGANIZED. MAJORITY of the trends you see on THE INTERNET RIGHT NOW, GUESS WHO STARTED THEM? Black >> [music] >> women. Medical advances, education reforms, black women. [music] And how our country repays the black men and women who built this country? They gerrymander southern states so that they lose political power. Memphis, we are not mad enough. There's some stuff that you have to get on and talk about if you understand the topic and this is one of them ones. Listen up, bro. So, imagine you own a house with three other people and y'all made decisions about this house because every person owned a piece of the living room. There's four pieces of the living room. Every person owns a portion. The other three people share completely different views than you, but you own your 1/4 of that home. So, you have a 1/4 opinion. What Tennessee lawmakers just did is that they allowed those other three people to redraw the lines and now our 1/4 of the home is now worth nothing and we have no voice, no vote, no nothing. Bro, once you notice how they just drew these lines, it is blatantly racist, bro. There's no other way around it. They want MAGA to be sent as a representative for Memphis. Like, bro, they just took our voice. They just took our voting power. They just took everything. And honestly, not only Memphis should be mad, all black people should be mad because this is the indication that if this can happen in Memphis, this can happen anywhere.
Memphis, we had a voice. We had a vote.
It was a small voice. It was a small vote because we are only in that small little section of Tennessee. But at the same time, we still matter. Now, they completely even took away that small vote, that small representation that we already had. Like, we're not mad enough.
Like, this is some [ __ ] I'm the chairman of THIS COMMITTEE.
>> YOU'RE DIFFERENT THAN THE SENATOR THAN I AM. I'M THE CHAIRMAN of this committee.
And you are no DIFFERENT THAN THE PUT MY MIC BACK ON.
>> THESE ARE THE scenes from the Louisiana State Capitol Friday as lawmakers decide on redistricting and new maps.
Emotions are high in the committee room as lawmakers prepare to eliminate one of the state's majority black districts.
After this back-and-forth, Republican State Senator Jay Morris says something to the crowd.
We'll keep you updated on Louisiana First News.com as we learn more from what's happening at the capital.
The maps were drawn to maximize the potential Republican partisan advantage by winning and having a chance and opportunity to win all nine congressional districts for the Republican party. So the argument he's making this has nothing to do with race. He's acknowledging it's a purely political move. What do you make of what you just heard there? Well, uh Justice Alito kind of it has given a playbook to lawmakers. Just call it partisanship, say the word over and over and over again. Uh but we know that that is just a veneer. Uh what happened in Tennessee was the intentional, purposeful dismantling of one district that provides black voters an opportunity to have voice in Congress. A district that is home to Memphis, which holds a special place in our country. It is the place where Dr. King gave his life, where he was assassinated uh for fighting for a better America, fighting for the Voting Rights Act, standing up for the powerless.
Um so you know, I find uh that that lawmaker's statement lacks credibility and it is why we will see a lot of litigation this cycle. Uh the the base claims that this is all partisanship just will not hold. Voters in the state of Tennessee now have no representation.
While nobody was watching yesterday because everybody's focused on cruise ships and everything else, the Tennessee GOP got together and redistricted eliminating the last place where people of color in the state of Tennessee had any voice. And this has been their plan for years. See, this started back in 2022 when Tennessee redistricted after the 2020 census and they took District 5 in Nashville and split that into three different districts, the fifth, sixth, and seventh. Essentially, they took the population of Nashville, which has a significant minority population, and they divided that into three other districts and basically segregated them into other more rural voting districts.
And by doing that, Republican Andy Ogles won the 2022 election and eliminated that seat for Democrats. And that left Memphis. Now, Memphis is still the only seat in Tennessee with a majority black voting population and a democratically held seat. So, yesterday, again, while nobody was paying any attention, they divided Memphis now and split that voting population into three districts.
And why is Tennessee doing this? Well, for two reasons. They want to eliminate the black voice in the state of Tennessee and because the Supreme Court told them that they could do that in Coley versus Landry. See, that Supreme Court decision actually altered the Voting Rights Act, which was in place to ensure that minority voters, that their votes were not diluted, that they had a voice. And those protections were weakened by that decision and Tennessee didn't waste any time to say, "Okay, we have one more district that black voters have a say in. Let's make sure we eliminate that district." And Tennessee GOP leadership even told you what they were doing when they said the goal was to ensure that the state's representation reflects its conservative values. See, instead of trying to become a better party that everybody in the state would want to support, they eliminated the last two districts where the values of those communities were not the same as GOP values. And as the Tennessee Black Caucus has said, and I agree with it, this is black vote dilution at an industrial scale. So, when you hear MAGA creators on this app say that having something like the Voting Rights Act is actually racist, they're full of crap and trying to justify this, remind them this is why that act existed was to make sure that black voters had a voice. Now, in Tennessee, they don't.
I can barely contain my anger at what's happening.
I am in Dallas, Texas.
And I just voted.
But I've never experienced what I've experienced before.
I live in Coppell, Texas. I'm right I'm less than a mile away from the main government building where I always been voting for everything else, including, you know, with last November, but now when I went up there they have Now they have us all separated in in different uh voting locations if you're Republican or Democrat. They only gave us two locations. But the Republican Party can vote in the nice fancy pretty building with the nice updated machines. They got me at some freaking elementary school where there's some teenagers in there and only two adults with some old outdated voting machines to allow us to vote. And it's I had to drive 3 mi out of my way just to get here.
This is ridiculous. This is not democracy.
How dare you guys? Why are you allowing this to happen to this country? I gave I have a veteran I have served my country.
And it's ridiculous. They only have three voting machines in there.
Only three. So when people get off of work, they're going to be here all day.
But that main location for the Republi- Republican side I saw which voting locations they have all their super nice one. They have multiple machines to cast their ballots. So they're making us cast our ballots separately.
Well, there's only Democratic voting locations and only Republican voting locations. And they used to have the signs of like who's a Democrat, who's a Republican and for all the all the things that you're voting for. They I NONE OF IT.
THIS IS NOT A BURGER.
>> [screaming] >> OKAY, I'M SO UPSET.
I cannot believe this is happening TO OUR COUNTRY. Y'ALL SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES, GOVERNOR ABBOTT. All y'all.
Shame. Shame. Shame on you guys. This is ridiculous. You're going to do whatever you can to to to to to to suppress our votes. You already gerrymandered everything.
And you just got to make it worse. You just got to break it harder, huh?
That's okay. I still [ __ ] voted, you bastards. Good evening, lovely listeners. There is actually a green wave of discussion online after Tennessee's recent districting decisions packed major political debate across the United States. And social media is completely divided over what this new map means for representation, voting power, and fairness in election.
For people just catching up, redistricting is process where voting boundaries are redrawn. Usually after population changes are reviewed, in theory, it's supposed to make representation more balanced, but in a practice, it's often become one of the most controversial part of American politics because every line drawn can shift political influence in a big way. Now, the Tennessee map has become the center of attention with critics and supporters offering completely different interpretation of what happened. Some believe the change could impact how you know, certain communities are represented in future election, while others argue it's a standard political process that happens every cycle across different states.
But when really What really happened is that people are breaking into heated debate about fairness, representation, and uh political strategies. Some users are saying this is exactly why districting has always been controversial in the state because depending on how district lines are drawn, it can influence who gets elected and which community have stronger votes in power. Others are pushing back strongly saying that too much of online conversation is being amplified or turned into a emotional narrative instead of focusing on the actual legal and political process behind restricted district decisions.
And as always, once something like this hits a social platform, it quickly becomes very big. People start connecting it to broader discussion about trust in government, fairness in election, and long-standing political division in the country.
There are also users who feel this situation reflects something deeper. A sense that many Americans don't actually fully understand how district mapping works until it suddenly becomes a viral topic.
When it does, it creates shock, frustration, and confusion at all once. At the same time, political analysts often remind people that redistricting battles are not new. In fact, they happen in almost every state and both majority political powers have historically been accused of trying to influence maps in ways that benefit their side. This is why court challenges and legal disputes around district maps are so so common.
But online, the conversation doesn't stay technical for long. It becomes emotional. People begin to debate fairness, equality, and whether the system itself is working the way it should. And once that happen, the comment section turns into a mix winning political argument and viral reactions from users are saying this is a wake up, you know, call a possible awareness that more people should understand how voting system and district boundaries actually works.
Others feels it highlight ongoing concern about representation and whether certain communities feels properly represented in political decision.
Talking about black people.
And then is a people where everything becomes a cultural war that breaks with meaning that different groups interpret the same events in completely different ways. And instead of focusing on the fact, the discussion turns into complete you know, competitive um narrative. But underneath of all that noise, one thing is clear: Americans are paying attention. Even if people disagree on what they think Tennessee maps mean, the level of engagement shows that voting rights and representation of political prisoners still deeply important issue to the public. And that's why this story continue to trend. Not just because of the map itself, but because it touches on something bigger than people always care about during election cycle. Who has power? Who gets represented? And those decisions are made behind closed scenes, right? Now, the internet is still debating still still arguing and still trying to make sense in in all of it. And like most political story in a digital age, the conversation is far from over.
But my own take is that why is it that they have to do do in a way which is very noticeable? When you watch, you see that they were all put together in the black community.
Anyway, lovelies, when I just leave me your own thought in the comment section of what you think of this video, lovelies. If you've not subscribed to this channel, please do your good a huge favor to click on the subscription button. Like and I will see you, lovelies, when I upload the next one.
