Santa Clara Co. officials denounce proposed ICE detention facility

[00:00:03]The property is right behind me. You can see all that fencing. It's right there, that black fencing and that car turning the corner.

[00:00:12]Eventually, there is a chance that down the road cars turning that corner could be driving by an ICE detention facility.

[00:00:20]Let me show you video. We saw people pulling into this location about a mile from the outlets at around 5:45 this morning. They didn't talk to us. They say that their job right now is just to clear the 26 acres. According to county officials, they believe that it's being leased by the federal government and by the time it's all over an ICE facility could be built there. They are fearful to the point where they held a rally yesterday saying if that's the case, they will push back vehemently against the Trump administration. We do know that President Trump is looking all over the Bay Area for a possible facility including in Dublin and then at this particular location because according to county officials and immigration advocates, they have looked at documents and they believe those documents indicate that down the road there could be a facility built at this location.

[00:01:13]It's in farmland. It's right next to a home. According to county officials, the Trump administration or any federal administration cannot come in and override local laws at this particular time. This is farmland and they say that it's not zoned for any detention facility and if it gets down the road that Trump administration wants to build a facility, they will see them in court saying federal law does not override local laws.
