Why pollinators are important for your garden! 🐝 #growinnhomes本站添加:
One of the most important things when growing food are the pollinators. Most people think growing a garden is only just about dirt, water, and fertilizer.
But without the pollinators, we wouldn't even be able to grow fruits or vegetables. Here is a list of pollinators that we like to attract to our gardens. First, native bees. Here in Florida, we have over 300 species of native bees. They belly flop into flowers, getting covered in pollen and spreading it everywhere they go. All of the honey bees that live in Florida are actually non-native, but those help as pollinators, too. Next is the hoverfly.
As adults, they look like small yellow jacket wasps, but they don't stink. They spend their days hovering over your herbs and flowers, pollinating your crops. What's also good about this bug is their larve eats a lot of aphids.
Then we have hummingbirds. When you plant native flowers like coral, honeysuckle, or fire bush, you are attracting these beautiful birds. They have incredibly high metabolisms and will visit hundreds of flowers a day, ensuring your fruit trees get the pollination they need to produce a massive harvest. Also, there is butterflies. While they aren't as efficient as bees, they travel long distances, helping with the genetic diversity of your garden.
