The heat index (feels like temperature) is significantly higher than the actual temperature when humidity is high, because high humidity reduces the body's ability to cool itself through evaporation. When the dew point is close to the air temperature (such as 86°F temperature and 76°F dew point), the air cannot hold any more moisture, resulting in high humidity and elevated heat index readings.

Weekend weather
Added:[music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] >> Hello, meteorologist Jeremy Baker here on a Friday. Made it to Friday.
If it's your Friday, that's great. I'm working tomorrow, so it's my Thursday, I guess you could say.
Well, kind of a gross start to the day out there. We have a little sunshine out there here and there. For the most part though, excuse me, mostly cloudy skies.
Take a live look around town. No, it is not dark at Morgan's Wonderland Camp.
I'm thinking the camera's malfunctioning there. You can see Calaveras Lake, a beautiful sky there. We see more blue there. Same thing at the San Antonio Airport, a little blue. I don't see any blue there on the sky cam though. That's a look at downtown from our studios.
Not looking all that pretty out there, but it's a little better than this morning. At least downtown looks a little bit clearer as things have scoured out a little bit. We still have some of that mist left over and the clouds and some showers out there, but nothing all that bad.
Did have some rain as I drove into work this morning.
All right, take a look at the current temperatures. There we go. All right, it is 86° right now. Wow. Feels like 96.
That's a huge difference in the actual temperature and the feels like temperature. Winds are out of the south-southeast at 10 mph. The dew point is 76. The closer that is to the air temperature, that raises the humidity.
Typically, if it's 86 for the temp the temperature 86 for the dew point, means the air can't hold any more moisture. Usually, that results in rain or pretty much 100% humidity and we have fog.
Uh but, it's definitely boosting that feels like temperature today by 10°.
That's a lot. And you can see the winds are out of the south-southeast at 10 mph. That southeastly component helping to drag in moisture off of the Gulf of Mexico.
And you can see the aquifer in the past 24 hours, it dropped a full foot to 641.3.
Uh so, it's lost quite a bit in the past 24 hours. Um not going to get a lot of help probably over the next few days, but by Monday and Tuesday, looks like we could be getting quite a good dose of rain and we should be be seeing that go up. The uh 10-day average sitting there at 642.3. We're still about 20 ft below normal, but it's like a lot better than a couple months ago when we were 40 ft below normal. So, we've made some improvement.
All right, here's the pollen count.
Actually, there is an updated pollen count. I still have to update that. Let me take a look on my thing here. We get it emailed to us every day. All right, molds are now down to 200, light. Grass, 20, that's light. And the pigweed's still there.
It's light, but the count is 30. So, that's gone down a bit. So, that's good.
And here are the temperatures across the area.
We've got looks like 19290s.
Carrizo Springs is at 90 and same story in Kennedy. We've got uh Fredericksburg at 79, 79 in Bernie. 84 Eagle Pass, Del Rio sitting at 81, 85 in Floresville, 86 Gonzales and Seguin, New Braunfels 85 and again San Antonio is at 86°.
All right, here's the radar. You can see we have that smattering of light showers here and there. And they're brief heavy downpours. If you're uh passing through those, you might have encountered that on your way to work or anywhere else you might have been driving around today.
Nothing heavy, nothing severe, not even any thunderstorms out there. But, we do have these isolated showers and you can see I'll zoom in to some areas here.
Bernie picked up a little rain in the past hour. And you see them pretty much scattered around Bear County. Uh some heavier showers just south of Bear County. Uh somewhere around the Hondo area where you see the light green, that's the lightest of the rain. Where you see the darker green or even a little bit of embedded yellow, that's moderate to heavy rain. But, you can see they're so small and they're moving quickly from the south So, really they're not going to drop a lot of rainfall, but for a minute or two you're going to get a good dose of rain if that happens to move through your town.
Further down in the south, we see more just east of Cotulla. A little bit around Tilden, Pleasanton not so much towards the Beeville area. Uh but, you see some more over towards Victoria and also the Pearsall area seeing some shower activity. So, basically it's our central two two uh zones of counties I would say seeing the activity.
Water vapor imagery showing that clockwise spin over northern Mexico.
That is an area of high pressure that's basically keeping us drier than what it would if it wasn't here. We basically we'd have more scattered showers and storms. Because it's there, it's helping to keep a little bit of a lid on the atmosphere so we're not seeing quite as much precipitation. But, we do have the moisture out there. We just need a trigger to come along and really create those showers and storms to hook up with the moisture and to uh kind of propel them into being.
And that'll be changing. Here's the upper level pattern. Here we are tomorrow. Still not a lot of activity going on. Moisture still sits around the area of high pressure still there. But we're watching moisture coming up from the Gulf of Mexico and cold front coming down from the north. And this will take you to Monday, I believe.
And you can see as that cold front pushes in Sunday night, it's going to pretty much pick up that moisture and that'll be the trigger that we need for a good amount of rainfall Monday into Tuesday. Could be talking about a couple, they say 1 to 2 inches of rain, maybe a little bit more in some areas, especially further east of San Antonio.
So it'll be kind of an unsettled weather Sunday night into Monday and Tuesday.
Once we get beyond Tuesday, that front clears, high pressure returns, and we have a drier weather pattern for the rest of next week into the weekend after with that as well. So we're talking about Juneteenth, we're talking about Father's Day.
Things are looking drier, but the beginning of next week definitely looking like a wet start.
All right, let's walk you through the next few days hour by hour. Here we are today at 5:00. Notice the future radar does pick up on a few isolated showers and storms this afternoon. Daytime highs ending up in the upper 80s and low 90s today, so pretty warm to hot really out there.
And with that heat index again, it's going to feel more like a 100 plus this afternoon. So if you are outside, make sure you drink plenty of water, do your best to stay in the shade, and wear light-layered, light-colored clothing.
And even though it's cloudy right now or mostly cloudy for most of us, the sun can still penetrate the clouds, so make sure you do use sunscreen if you're outside for an extended period of time.
Heading into tomorrow morning, here we are at 7:00 a.m. Mostly cloudy skies return. Future radar not picking up on anything, but it didn't this morning either. So anticipate more areas of drizzle tomorrow, probably a few isolated showers here and there in the morning, much like this morning.
Temperatures starting out in the 70s.
And tomorrow afternoon is going to be much like today.
A mixture of clouds and sunshine, probably a little bit more cloud cover than sunshine. Humid again. High temperatures tomorrow in the lower to middle 90s. Heat index up there into the lower 100s. And the chance for rain few and far between tomorrow, but it will be there tomorrow at about 20%.
Uh no, I wouldn't say heavy storms today in San Antonio, Grace Kelly. Just Just very light isolated showers uh for a few minutes. It might be a little heavy, just the rain, but that would be about it. They're very small and they're moving real quick, so I wouldn't worry about that.
Just have an umbrella, just in case.
And then Sunday, pretty much repeating it again. Clouds in the morning, future radar showing a little bit more activity, especially toward the coast.
So, I'm thinking a better chance of rain coverage on Sunday. We're bumping it up from 20% this weekend or today and Saturday to 30% on Sunday. And you'll see in the afternoon, bit more coverage with those showers and storms. I'm thinking, Grace Kelly, there could be some more heavier storms on Sunday.
More so than today and tomorrow. Uh, but at this point, it doesn't look like like anything severe. Just brief heavy downpours with these. And highs again Sunday into the low 90s, so that heat index is going to be up there again on Sunday.
And here's the drought report.
Massive improvement in the drought report. This comes out every Thursday, so this is came out yesterday, but you can see a month ago we had several areas of of exceptional drought. That's the worst category. That's gone. We had extreme last week. That's gone. So, severe is still pretty bad. It's the third highest drought category, but not all of our area in severe drought anymore. Um, a good chunk in moderate and and abnormally dry. But not much in the way of severe even. So, we have really banged away at this drought. And if this rain does materialize for Sunday night, Monday, Tuesday, that'll even look even better.
Uh, time frame for today, Dre Love, I would say that's a cool name, Dre Love.
Um, it's throughout the day, but they're very isolated, so you might have a shower in a few minutes, you might have it in a few hours, you might not get anything at all. Um, so it's just going to be here and there today. Really no time frame.
It's really throughout the day. Hope that makes sense to you. And no problem, Grace, my pleasure.
All right, here's your forecast for today, your day planner. We started out with the clouds, we still have a lot right now. Mostly cloudy skies right now, we'll call it a mix of sun and clouds, and a chance for a stray shower this afternoon. High temperature will be 92, but again with that humidity it's going to feel more like the lower 100s.
So, make sure you do your best to stay cool.
If you have any plans this evening, uh of course there is the World Cup and the Rocket Lacrosse Lacrosse is having an event a watch party. So, if you're heading up to that, have the umbrella just in case or you can leave it in the car.
Uh we'll drop into the mid-80s by the mid-evening hours. Partly cloudy and humid this evening as well. Still pretty muggy. Southeast winds at 5 to 10 and sunset is still getting later at 8:34 as we get closer to that first day of summer in just over a week.
Take a look at the 14-day forecast. 20% chance of rain today and tomorrow. Highs of 92 each day. Sunday we'll bump the rain chance up to 30% with a high of 93 and that's Flag Day.
Uh if you're doing anything for Flag Day, barbecuing perhaps, uh definitely uh you should you should have any problems. If it does rain on your barbecue, it's not going to last all day. It's going to be quick.
Monday and Tuesday is when we bump the rain chances up to 50 and 60% and we have weather impact alerts for those two days because of the amount of rainfall we might receive and thunderstorms could impact your day-to-day activities those days. High temperatures staying in the low 90s. Rain chances go down Wednesday.
Take them out pretty much for the most part for the rest of the forecast except the following Monday and Tuesday. Still at 20% each day. And if you're looking ahead to Juneteenth, partly cloudy a high of 93. Same story the day after.
And for your Father's Day, it's going to be hot for dad. Partly cloudy a high of 95 heat index probably probably closer to 105. And then we go back to the lower 90s for the rest of that forecast.
There you have it guys. That is your forecast. Oh, will Monday night and Tuesday rain be severe high winds hail?
No.
At this point it doesn't look like severe weather. Can't rule it out completely, but right now it looks like it's mainly going to be a uh heavy rain kind of a thing. About 1 to 2 inches of rain area wide.
Uh possibly more in some local areas, but not looking at high winds and hail I don't think.
All All You're welcome Diane. No problem. All right, I'll have Excuse me.
I had Jack in the Box tacos. I think they're still in my throat. Um I'll have more on KENS 5 News at Noon today. Uh Sierra Fogarty will have your news, and we hope to see you then. If not, have a great day, and uh have a great weekend.
I'll be here tomorrow night, though. All right, take care, guys. Bye-bye.
