Weather forecasting involves analyzing atmospheric systems like cold and warm fronts to predict precipitation patterns; in this forecast, a cold front moving southward from Maine combined with a warm front creates a 'crunch system' that brings scattered showers and thunderstorms, particularly in southern regions, while high pressure systems control temperature and cloud cover distribution across the area.

First Alert Weather: Mild Tuesday night in New York - 5/26/26Added:
Check out this drone video here over Hempstead Lake in Rockville Centre on Long Island. Isn't it nice, Lonnie? Wow.
>> We're thawing out and we're drying out finally here today after a long weekend of some dreary skies. But you know what?
It was great to celebrate Memorial Day with our loved ones honoring our heroes, Lonnie, as well. And then back to work here gives us a little bit energy to get back to work today. Yeah. Look, Murphy's Law, you come back and the the weather's beautiful out there. But you're right, it was all about gathering you know, with families and friends and and paying respects. So what I want to talk about, KJ, is how our weather is overall looking good with a little a little speed bump in the way. Right now, temperatures are fine. I mean, you're 76 in the city. You're 78 up around Sussex County. You're 80 in Somerville right now. But take a look and watch what's going to happen with that temperature.
So currently, we'll take you down to 66 for an overnight low. You're going to watch more and more clouds come into the area. All right, but I don't see any rain out there. Tomorrow, I see a slight chance for some rain. It's 84, so it's warmer. All right, it's a sunny cloud mix and then there's that shower chance, even a thunderstorm the farther south you go. So where would that rain be coming from? Let's go up and let's look down on the entire country. Now I'm going to take a walk to the systems that I'm watching. So let's walk with me this way and through the Midwest. Get over here to All right, right here. This is what I've got my eye on cuz this little band of wet weather, all right, that's all part of the warm front that came through our area and ruined your Saturday, your Sunday, half of your Monday. Well, that front which came through as a cold front is now moving in reverse and it is coming into our area.
At the same time, look at this, KJ. This area of rain that you see north of Maine, that's a cold front that's dropping south. So it's kind of like that crunch system and we're right in the middle of it. So what does that mean for us? Currently, we're just watching, look here, just some high clouds spilling into the area. All right, those clouds will thicken up. The rain chance is not overwhelming and I'll show you what I'm talking about. So if we can pull that up right here. All right, with that high pressure that's been in control today, it's going to get pushed out primarily by this warm front that I told you wants to move north, but here's that cold front again, extending up north of Maine. That's dropping down at the same time. So, watch this. Here we go into your day tomorrow. We lose the high. So, now we got more cloud cover out there, and this is 7:00 a.m. Maybe a little raindrop here or there. That's not much, KJ. Not much at all. The better bet would be later in the day, the farther south you go. And watch this. All right, you see some of that push through portions of the area, like around Mercer County, maybe Hunterdon.
And that little yellow little flash of red as well, just south of the tip of Ocean County. Who's to say? These are renderings that that all may not migrate a little bit more to the north. So, that's how I see Wednesday. Then the front pushes through, and for Thursday, nothing more than a scant little leftover drop of rain out there. And it's not a whole lot of rain at all. So, high temperatures for your day on Wednesday, 84, you'll be 87 in Monticello, 88 in Poughkeepsie. And the amount of rain we pick up on Wednesday, and the next chance will be on Saturday.
KJ, it's not much, so I'm not calling for a washout of a weekend, not a washout tomorrow. Couple of tenths here or there. 7-day forecast looks like this. Zoom in on that for everybody at home, Mike, and we'll talk you through it all. 84 tomorrow, again, sun and cloud mix, but you do have to keep a shower, even a thunderstorm chance in there. 77 on Thursday, we're looking pretty good out there. Friday looks great at 77. Saturday, a rain chance, but it's for the first part of your day.
I think any rain would clear even New York City, like around 1:00 in the afternoon. Sunday, 74, and Monday and Tuesday, 71 and 74. KJ, it's all yours.
That's not a bad 7-day forecast. No complaints from me, Lonnie. Good night.
Thank you.
