[00:00:00]Today, we are looking at Tamil Nadu's brand new Chief Minister Vijay and his very eventful first week on the job.

[00:00:08]Let's start with what Vijay got right.

[00:00:12]He has introduced 200 units of free power for households consuming under 500 units bi-monthly.

[00:00:19]And smartly, he kept Jayalalithaa's existing universal 100 unit scheme intact for those consuming beyond 500 units. So, nobody loses and those who need more get more.

[00:00:31]On women safety, he has set up the Singappen special task force headed by an Inspector General of Police. A dedicated senior level unit. That is a serious signal.

[00:00:42]On drugs, he has expanded the anti-narcotic task force with 65 new stations across the state. Boots on the ground.

[00:00:50]And the move that really caught people's attention is this. He ordered 717 TASMAC liquor shops shut.

[00:00:57]These are liquor outlets within 500 m of schools, places of worship and bus stops. The existing law required only 50 to 100 m of distance, but Vijay went to 500 and people have taken note of it.

[00:01:17]Clean start, strong signals. This looked like a leader who meant business.
