One Nation proposes replacing the Petroleum Resource Rent Tax with a flat royalty on production and allowing the Commonwealth to take equity stakes in future drilling projects, arguing this would benefit the economy through a sovereign wealth fund while avoiding what they describe as a 'socialist takeover.'

Pauline Hanson unveils One Nation gas policy | ABC NEWSAdded:
His budget under the microscope, the treasurer is searching for a nugget of good news.
>> [laughter] >> In WA, defending difficult decisions taken. We didn't expect that to be unanimous support for them, but they're the right thing to do for our economy.
As Pauline Hanson pitches what she thinks will be a popular policy on gas at a major energy conference pushing for the government to take a stake of up to 30% in new offshore projects. Supply the gas to heavy industry and divert profits into a sovereign wealth fund. This won't be some socialist takeover. This will be a great financial investment. One nation proposing a tax overhaul, too. Instead of the petroleum resource rent tax on profits, the party wants future offshore gas projects to be charged a royalty on production. I have a vision for this country. At the same conference, the coalition pledged to fast-track approval and get more oil and gas out of the ground. But on the question of taxes I don't support uh >> [music] >> putting more taxes on oil and gas. Nor does Labor despite this frank admission.
The proponents of a new form of gas tax, they're getting cut through in the general election. South Australia is among the states seeking to boost its gas supplies, but underscoring the challenges, its bid to lift a ban on fracking is being blocked by One Nation and the Liberals. This is an issue for the my members in South Australia.
They'll say drill, drill, drill, but then they'll oppose uh the South Australian government's uh leadership. For now, the federal government's focused on getting its domestic gas reservation scheme in place by July next year. It ruled out any new gas taxes in this budget, but whether it's a higher tax or a reworked tax on exports, politically, this issue remains firmly on the table. Jane Norman, ABC News, Canberra.
