Desert rattlesnakes use camouflage as a structural adaptation, with their light-colored skin helping them blend into the desert environment to avoid detection by predators and prey; they are carnivores that hunt small animals, playing an important ecological role in controlling populations of creatures that might overconsume vegetation.

May 20, 2026 Desert RattlesnakeAdded:
Hey, morning dragons. I'm Mr. Seno and this is Flame and it's our good buddy Alons. Alons, you're back. We've missed you very much and we're glad you made it on the show and we want to welcome you to the news of Camelot. Today's Wednesday, May 20th, 2026.
And yes, Flame Alance does sound like he's a little I don't know, scratchy. Is that the word we're looking for?
Speaking of scratchy dragons, you're going to love this friend of Flame that has awesome camouflage. Awesome camouflage. Before we get going on that, let's take a moment to pause, put our hand on our heart, and say the pledge of allegiance. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. You may pause for the moment of silence.
All right, dragons. Way to persevere through all of the very hot weather that we've been having. We have this cold front coming in. Nevertheless, Alons, because we are celebrating all friends of Flame that have camouflage, which is a structural adaptation and their structure be a being able to hide. We have a very special friend of flame that we thought it'd be neat if we went out into the desert since it's been so hot.
Look at this. A desert rattlesnake.
Desert rattlesnake. And you can tell by its very light colored skin, different different ways that it blends in that it has camouflage. This structural adaptation keeps it from being seen easily by maybe some animals that might be around to think that it's safe. So if a rattlesnake has this structural adaptation in the desert, is it an herbivore, which means it eats only plants? Is it a carnivore, which means it eats only meat? Or is it an omnivore, which means it eats plants and meat?
That's an excellent point. It's an excellent point, dragons. The teeth.
Yeah, that's a giveaway. They are carnivores. And look at this. Look at this slide that helps us understand the diet of a rattlesnake. These are all animals and they are all animals that are kind of small and might be closer to the ground. Now, there might not be as many rattlesnakes in Virginia and that's okay. We don't live in a desert environment, but there are snakes and most of the snakes here in Virginia do not. They don't worry about humans necessarily, but they are good for the environment because they keep some of the critters that might be eating the vegetation. Too much vegetation. But in the desert, the desert where there's very little water, desert rattlesnakes are a big predator. So, if you're in the desert, you got to watch out for those rattlesnakes. And if you see an animal that's using its camouflage, good for you. You have that vision that can tell when an animal might be near.
It's time for the birthday box. Now, we couldn't miss today's show, Alons. It was a bit of a bit of an alert. We've got birthdays all over the place. All over the place. We didn't have any birthdays yesterday. I think that's what is that what the ladies said yesterday.
There no birthdays, but today, listen to this, Dragons. We've got Oh, we've got Alonzo. Oh, Alonzo. Happy birthday, Alonzo. In second grade, we've got Louisa. In first grade, we've got Oh, Briana. In fourth grade. Oh, that energetic person. Briana and Valentina.
In fourth grade, how about that? And Sophia in first grade. That really makes up for it. Five birthdays today on the 20th. Make sure we don't miss any. And then our See the Goodness, Be the Goodness classroom. Speaking of sneaky goodness, how about these kids? Oh, Miss Troops class. Miss Troops class. They are doing a fantastic job this year.
They are very close. They're a tight-knit knit bunch. And their favorite pillar. Oh, it's just like Miss Rossini's class. Cheering on other successes. That is their classroom's favorite pillar. That's on Thursdays.
Dragons, they have a very deep question.
Flame Alons, you're going to love this.
Listen to this question. How do you know a person might be sad when they don't say that they're sad? Ooh. So, you have to make it your mission to make sure you cheer people up. Miss Troops class is very cheerful. You have to make it your mission to say, "I can tell. I can feel that someone is kind of sad. What can I do? What can I do? What can Alice do to make that person cheer up?" Because it's always better when the group feels together, included, and is in a great mood. Make that your mission today, Dragons. So our pillar today, dragons, our actions. They go a long way into saying that our character is all about our mission. Cheer someone up. Cheers someone up even if they're not saying that they're outwardly sad. And we got facts galar thanks to our desert rattlesnake. So on behalf of playing on behalf of our good buddy Alons, I'm Mr. Serno. Have a terrific Wednesday dragons. Make sure you see the goodness, be the goodness, and we can't wait to see you tomorrow. Thanks everyone.
