US President Donald Trump claimed China may purchase American oil to reduce dependence on Russian and Iranian crude amid Strait of Hormuz disruptions, while Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized that China-US relations must be built on mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation, with both leaders meeting at Beijing's Temple of Heaven—a 600-year-old Ming Dynasty sacred site symbolizing the connection between earth and heaven—to signal diplomatic engagement despite ongoing tensions over Taiwan, Iran, and trade.

Xi ‘ABANDONS BESTIE’ Putin For Trump? Bombshell US-China Oil Move Sends Shockwaves Across RussiaAdded:
Is China preparing to reduce its dependence on Russian and Iranian crude oil?
US President Donald Trump has made a stunning claim, signaling that Washington could become Beijing's next major energy supplier. During a highstakes meeting in Beijing, Trump said Chinese President Xi Jinping liked the idea of buying oil from the United States. Trump made the remarks in an interview with Fox News after a White House official said on Thursday that China was interested in purchasing more US crude oil to reduce its dependence on the Strait of Hormuz, the critical waterway through which roughly 1if of the world's oil and liqufied natural gas flows. The Strait of Hormuz has effectively remained disrupted since the Iran war began in late February, fueling fears of supply shocks and global energy instability. Trump said, "I told him I'd love to see you buy oil from Texas and Louisiana, from the United States, Alaska. We've got so much of it." And he said he likes the idea. He'd like to talk about that. Trump further added, "I think it'll happen." He also told Fox News, "They're doing it right now.
They're sending Chinese ships up to buy oil." However, China has not officially confirmed any new energy purchases from the United States. Chinese state media summaries of the Trump she meeting also omitted any mention of energy deals.
Historically, the United States has never been a major supplier of crude oil to China, the world's largest oil importer.
Imports of US crude peaked at around 395,000 barrels per day in 2020, accounting for just under 4% of China's total oil imports. China has not imported any US crude oil since May 2025 because of 20% tariffs imposed during the trade war.
Imports had already fallen sharply for a second consecutive year, dropping 27.8% yearonear to 237.8 million barrels last year.
China currently imports a significant portion of its crude oil from Russia along with discounted sanctioned barrels from Iran. Roughly half of China's total crude imports come from the Middle East where disruptions around the straight of Hormuz have sharply reduced the number of tankers transporting oil and refined products across global markets.
The instability in the Middle East has also forced Beijing to tightly manage exports of refined products such as gasoline and jet fuel in order to protect domestic supplies. Meanwhile, oil prices surged on May 15th after Trump claimed China had agreed to purchase oil from the United States following talks with Xi Jinping.
International benchmark Brent crude futures for July rose 1.49% to $17.30 a barrel, while US West Texas intermediate crude futures for June gained 1.55% to reach $12.74 per barrel.
to our highly esteemed president, Mr. Donald Trump.
Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, I am very pleased to host a state banquet in honor of President Trump's state visit to China.
To begin with, speaking on behalf of the government of China and the people of China, I would like to extend a very warm and sincere welcome to President Trump and the distinguished American delegation.
This visit is in every sense a historic event.
This year marks the beginning of China's 15th 5-year plan.
over 1.4 billion Chinese rooted in 5,000 years of civilization.
Chinese modernization is being comprehensively advanced through highquality development.
This year also marks the 250th anniversary of American independence.
Over 300 million Americans are rekindling the spirit of patriotism, innovation, and pioneering, propelling the nation toward a new chapter of development.
The people of China and the United States are both great, realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and making America great again. So, it is entirely possible to coexist, mutually reinforce each other, and benefit the world.
55 years ago, President Nixon sent Dr. Kissinger to visit China, China and US pingpong diplomacy.
Through official and civil efforts, both sides thought China US ties frozen for two decades.
It became a key event in modern international relations history.
Since then, China and the United States have continued to write chapters of friendship through many stories of open cooperation.
In this new situation, President Trump and I responding to the expectations of the people of both countries and the international community have promoted the overall stability of China US relations through multiple meetings and phone calls.
Today I had an indepth exchange of views with President Trump on China US relations and the international and regional situation. We both agree that the China US relationship is the most important bilateral relationship in the world today and it must be handled well not poorly.
Cooperation benefits both while confrontation harms both. We should be partners, not rival. We have agreed to build a constructive and stable strategic relationship between China and the United States to promote the stable, healthy and sustainable development of China US relations and to bring more peace, prosperity, and progress to the world. President Donald Trump, it is an honor to be here. Distinguished ladies and gentlemen and my dear friends, looking back at the history of China US relations, the key to their stable development lies in whether we can achieve mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation.
The world today is experiencing a complex interplay of changes and turmoil. Sino US relations are vital to the well-being of over 1.7 billion people in both countries and the interests of over 8 billion people worldwide.
We should shoulder this historic responsibility together and steer the giant ship of China US relations steadily forward on the right course.
Finally, I propose a toast to the development and prosperity of China and the United States and the well-being of our peoples, to the bright future of China US relations, and to the friendship between our two peoples.
Let us raise our glasses to toast the health of President Trump and all the dear friends who are gathered here with us today.
>> How are your talk?
It's great.
>> Did you talk about that?
>> Great place. Incredible.
>> China is beautiful.
>> A 600year-old temple in Beijing has suddenly become the center of global diplomacy. As tensions rise over Taiwan, Iran, and trade, Donald Trump and Xiinping walked together through one of China's most sacred imperial sites. The message from Beijing was impossible to miss. This was not just a photo opportunity. This was symbolism on a grand scale.
US President Donald Trump arrived at Beijing's Temple of Heaven alongside Chinese President Xiinping after talks on trade, Taiwan, and broader tensions between both powers. When reporters asked Trump how the talks had gone, the US president replied with one word, great. But it was the location of the visit that immediately drew worldwide attention.
The Temple of Heaven is not an ordinary landmark. It is one of the most symbolically powerful sites in Chinese history. Built in 1420 during the Ming dynasty, the sprawling imperial complex was designed as a sacred connection between earth and heaven. For centuries, Chinese emperors known as the son of heaven came here to pray for peace, prosperity, and stability across the empire.
The temple's design reflects ancient Chinese cosmology through the philosophy of round heaven, square earth with circular southern buildings and rectangular northern platforms.
At the heart of the complex stands the hall of prayer for good harvests, a massive triple eved structure built entirely without nails. The building is supported by 28 giant pillars representing the seasons, months, and traditional Chinese hours.
Against that historic backdrop, the Trump Xi visit carried enormous diplomatic significance.
US Principal Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly described the visit as a moment of immense symbolic weight. The temple visit is widely being viewed as an attempt by both sides to lower tensions before more difficult negotiations begin on Friday. Those talks are expected to focus heavily on Taiwan artificial intelligence regulation and the straight of Hormuz blockade crisis. Regional security concerns surrounding Iran have also become a key diplomatic focus as Washington prepares to pressure Beijing over its economic ties with Thran.
Following the temple visit, Trump is expected to attend a state banquet hosted by Xiinping before returning to the Temple of Heaven for a working lunch on Friday. Chinese media outlets have highlighted the deeper symbolism of the site, describing the Temple of Heaven as a representation of long-term stability during uncertain times. As global tensions continue to intensify, Beijing has chosen one of its oldest imperial landmarks to send a modern political message to the world.
