Increasing rain chances through Saturday morning, then dry and warm next week

[00:00:06]>> Happy Friday everyone as we take live view over Bear Lake right now. We've got lots of blue skies, pretty quiet marine out there right now with temperatures in the mid-60s, but enjoy today. I think we will have some changes moving in tomorrow. You can start to see some of those changes in Tooele as we look live there up to 72° now, but you see a few more of these clouds rolling in and that's going to be the story as we progress throughout the rest of this afternoon. Now let's look at some of those temperatures. 72° in Wendover, 72 in Logan, 73 currently in the Heber Valley. We've got 75 over towards Vernal, 65 in Emery, 68° Good afternoon to our friends over in the price. 82° currently in Green River, but we've got 67 cooler in St. George closer to that low pressure system only at the upper 50s right now in Cedar City. Here's a look at what we're tracking as we go throughout the rest of today. We've got the gusty winds primarily for Eastern Utah. That means that critical fire danger remaining there. Otherwise, watching out for increasing rain chances. Now hopefully this will help kind of squash some of those fire concerns at least for tonight heading into tomorrow, but that'll be about it. Now as we go into the weekend, one thing you're going to notice is some much cooler temperatures.

[00:01:16]We've had that down in Southwest Utah.

[00:01:18]We're now going to see that starting to build across Northern Utah for the weekend. So you'll notice a definite cooling trend to those temperatures, but don't worry if you're saying I don't want the cooler air. Well, don't worry.

[00:01:28]It's not going to stick around all weekend. In fact, by the end of the weekend heading into next week, the summer heat will build in full force around here. Gusty south winds again for Eastern Utah out there this afternoon, but here comes that cut off low pressure system swirling out of California now moving into Nevada starting to pull up some of that moisture. And here's the deal as we see those showers and storms develop and with this gusty wind activity in Eastern Utah, we're going to have to watch that because there is the potential that we could get a strong storm over towards Eastern Utah this afternoon. So, right now we've got some light rain showers stretching from Beaver down towards Kanab and over towards portions of Kane County. And then you get back into Washington County, that's where we had a couple of rumbles of thunder near Springdale. And we've had some showers even around the St. George area this morning. But that's beginning to lift to the north. As I mentioned with that moisture moving east, remember here in eastern Utah we've got those gusty south winds already gusting 40 to 45 mph. You combine that with a thunderstorm rolling through and yeah, we could have one or two severe storms this afternoon. Now, the primary threat would be the wind.

[00:02:30]And again, we're already seeing that, but we could see that with a thunderstorm later today. So, heads up if you're heading out to places like Lake Powell this afternoon for that threat. Otherwise, we'll track this low pressure as it moves into the state this afternoon with isolated showers and storms turning into scattered storms late this afternoon. Primarily I-80 and points south, but can't rule it out really across the state. It will increase across northern Utah as that low pressure moves in overnight tonight.

[00:02:55]And we'll see a band of heavier, more widespread precipitation develop to greet us when you wake up first thing Saturday morning. So, we'll wake up to some wet conditions along the I-15 corridor, the Wasatch Front, Cache Valley, over towards the Wasatch, back in the Uintas. And in fact, the high Uintas above 9,000 ft, we're going to be seeing some accumulating snow overnight into Saturday morning. That low pressure moves into Wyoming and we start to dry out by late day Saturday. About a tenth to a quarter of an inch on average along the I-15 corridor, could be a little bit more. But definitely more like a quarter to a half an inch for portions of the mountains east of I-15. Now, I mentioned we could have some snow out there. Yeah, that's a very big possibility. Even the upper Cottonwood, places like Alta, Snowbird, could pick up a couple of inches of snow. We could definitely see more significant snow totals though about 9,000 ft up into the high Uintas as it goes throughout this system. For the weekend though, temperatures in the low 70s across the north, but we'll be warming it back up across the south.

[00:03:52]Watch out for that wet start on your Saturday. Once we get this low pressure out of here, say hello to the heat that's going to be building in across the area, and that heat is going to really take over for us here as we go into next week, which just happens to be the first week of June. All right, St. George, we're looking at isolated showers today with those temperatures well below average in the mid-70s. We'll be in the mid-80s on Saturday, near 90 on Sunday, and then the heat is on heading into next week with those triple digits moving in about the middle of next week. The Wasatch Front, isolated showers and storms turn into more widespread rain chances overnight into early Saturday, much cooler, but we dry it out and warm it up heading into next week. Matt.
